Seen them a handful of times, really stuns me that I know so little about them. I've never been so moved at a gig either, felt quite tearful at the end of the Hammersmith show when they were touring Every Valley and they assembled a collery choir at the end. Quite beautiful.
Playing the Race for Space album plus other older work at Brixton Academy a few years ago was probably the most stunning live show I've ever seen. Will have to watch the DVD one evening.

VINTAGE VJ74 JAZZ BASS - £140
Hi all,
LISTING AMENDED, HARDWARE OPTIONS BEING SOLD SEPARATELY.
Here is my Vintage VJ74 Jazz bass, modded to accommodate a Kiogon series / parallel switching loom but now back to stock.
I'm not really a fan of sunburst so I was going to keep this for sanding and refinishing or have a spare at my folks; if it doesn't go then I shall crack on with that plan.
Links for reference:https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Vintage-VJ74-Reissued-Bass-MN-Sunset-Sunburst/2EYN. (not the same neck but the nearest I could find available)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKzQ0NJbsyE
approx 4.3kg (I've misplaced my scales, will confirm once I've sorted the admin tornado that appears to have happened in my apartment)
38mm nut
Wilkinson pickups, bridge and tuners. These are well thought of on here, and rightly so. I'd happily have these in another bass.Modifications:
I extended the control cavity to fit the Kiogon loom, and shielded it.
I've gently rolled the fretboard edges.
I have also reshaped the headstock as I found it quite bulky looking.
There are a few scuffs and marks from my tinkering but nothing too obvious, or anything that affects playability.
I've priced this to account for the average used price, conscious of the modifications I've made to the body and headstock. Please see my other advert if you would like the upgraded parts for additional cost.
If you're looking to release cash for a higher priced instrument I'd be happy to consider options for a Jazz, PJ or Jaguar-type of thing.
I can deliver / host collection in or near Bristol, subject to distancing precautions. Postage also possible.Happy to send more photos should you require them.

investing a few quid in replacement tuners, bridge and pickup will make it a much much better instrument...
I'll be listing a modded J bass later today, and may well sell the bridge, tuners and pups separately depending on what interest it gets.

@foxyFuze which certain set of strings were you struggling to find?

Hi all,
A quick mention for Carl and his LordoftheStrings online store based in The Netherlands. I struggled to find a certain set of strings anywhere but this storer had them; about 7 days delivery and prompt communications throughout. Even with a few quid delivery, it was reasonably priced.
Worth a look if UK distributors don't have what you're looking for!P.S. I am not affiliated with them or a recipient of any free stuff (sadly).

3 quid for a foldable fabric shelf that one can house a 13" laptop, either as a sun shield when working outside, or as a protective cover for gigs. I've used one with an X Air mixer and laptop together and it keeps away beer splashes / prying eyes. The back zips open so it can allow pass-through of cabling.

I've had my Audio Technica device for a couple of years and it's solid. Low latency too :

Superb album, stood out as one I go back to from my teenage years. They made electronic music sound natural.
Nifty bit of bass playing there too!

Thanks for the response; I think this will be a bit chunky for my liking.

I got a Supro 2042P Huntington bass, two pickup version, in natural mahogany with a piezo under the bridge. Here's Dood's review of the single pickup version, followed by a review of the two pickup model.
Reviving an old thread here.... How's the neck on the Supro? 43mm does seem rather cumbersome.

Further to some good advice thus far, I'd suggest tapping up a local BC'er to try out their kit; we won't need an excuse to have a cup of tea and nerdy chat about instruments! Although you could be waiting a while for the lockdown to end....

@Cuzzie, looking forward to having a good play on yours, so to speak.

Bargain. Great pickups for rock!

Ah yes, it is a bit out of the norm. The neck has a lovely textured look up close though. I've put a '59 custom shop pup in it. Rolled the fretboard edges too, lovely to play.

Cue lots of p bass photos.....
All matter of opinion I guess, I like my 70s style bitsa:

I echo the comments about Ashdown kit - used in a local rehearsal studio and I rather like it. The drive channel is good too and beats more expensive amps in that department, IMO.
Haven't been impressed by the Hartke Hydrive to be honest.Playing metal, I'd say as long as you had a powerful head then a lot of your tone will come from preamp / drive pedals - I use my Rumble Head as such, making the most of the EQ and character switches.
Consider what a band may have PA-wise if you want to mike a cab for sending to the PA; this will negate the need for a monster rig. Everyone has opinions on cabs - mainly their own! I like my Barefaced BB2 and I'm sure there will be other brands popping up for sale on here fairly regularly.
Depending on where you are, there will likely be BCers around who can let you try their kit out.- 1

Played this little fella, and it is really very decent. You can get a little Chris Squire on it no hassle
Goes without saying he played Roundabout 😁

SOLD
Hi all,
I bought this to scratch the itch of having a short / medium scale and with a different pickup configuration to my other instruments; all well aside from the P bass-sized neck which I can't get on with. I got this for £290 delivered so am offering a decent saving on a well-finished instrument in great condition.
Offers and trade options welcome.
32" scale
Precision-size neck, 42mm width at nut
Lightweight! - small, basswood body
Tuners are very smooth and hold tune well (I was pleasantly surprised by their quality)
Hi-gain pickups of their own design - I'm not a Rick aficionado but they have a good reputation and have been used as replacements according to a couple of videos online.I'll post securely or I can host a try-out in Bristol (a fine selection of tea and coffee awaits). Insured postage also an option.
Happy to take more photos as required.

Interesting!
I've had a look online and there aren't any close-ups of the front pocket; wondering how much space there is for the usual laptop, cables etc?
