  1. I don't like working with skeletons, since anything I say just goes in one ear and out the other. 💀

  2. I set up a Twitter account back in 2007 or so but barely used it: I soon realised I was getting nothing out of it. However, the current brouhaha about Twitter got me thinking about what it was for, and I see a folks such as Steve Lawson, Neil Gaiman and Stephen Fry trying out Mastodon, so I'm giving that a go. Anyone else? I'm just starting, but I think it needs more Bass. I've added my own Mastodon handle to my signature. @[email protected]

Hi, I did try to get a handle - see what I did there - on Mastodon, but so far without a great deal of comprehension.  I've save a couple of articles to try to get my head round it and hope to have another go soon.  I too hardly used my Twitter account, so they won't miss me, anbd I've more or less given up with FB, except to publicise gigs, jams, etc., so I'm not that bothered, but I'd like to find a Bass community on Mastodon, if there is one.

Mastodon is heavily based around #tags, you can subscribe to tags such as #bass or #bassist. I’m using a local server, but you don’t have to,though it helps if you’re interested in local goings-on.

  3. 12 days after surgery, I now have a right eyeball that is half gas and half liquid. The liquid appears to be on the top, since vision is inverted. So it's still not usable, and I have to cover it with a patch because the sloshing is so distracting, but the little I can see does appear to be in focus. Another week and I might be able to do some work.

  4. Moping at home after eye surgery last Saturday. Right retina tore & detached, so a surgeon sucked out all the goo, spot-welded the tears with a laser, then pumped up my eye with hexafluoroethane, a greenhouse gas. So that’s me on one eye for the next few weeks at least. I’ve even got the eyepatch. (Arrrr.)

Wow.  How do you come to have a torn retina, if I may ask?

If you’re as short-sighted as I am (< -8 diopter in both eyes), it doesn’t take much. My retinas are like the skins on a drum kit tuned up by The Rock. It’s only a matter of time, you don’t have to take a knock.

Ouch.  I hope it's all getting better!

  5. Defretting an old bass while working from home. Work/life balance. 😎

You've not been reading the Build Diaries then.  It's not like that.

Never mind.  I wouldn't ask you to do something you are uncomfortable with.

Are you filling the fret cuts with a resin or with inlaid wood?

I’m actually pondering this topic at the moment. It’s a rosewood fretboard and I want to insert something thin in a slightly lighter colour, then dark wood filler around that. I’m looking for suitable material on the cheap I.e. not looking to buy wood just for that. I’ll even consider plastic. Then I’ll try a cyanoacrylate coating.

Folk tend to use maple veneer for that.
