1. Or a small disc of felt trapped underneath the control knob itself.
2.
In two of my bands ( one classic rock/ metal, and the other more what I would class as classic pub rock) everything is in eb, mainly due to pitching vocals. Consequently I have 4 basses tuned at eb permanently, while the others are at standard.
Really? They can't sing a semitone higher?
3. It must be nearly there by now?
4. Why would you need them under bright lights though?
5.
http://www.dailymoti...ic#.UPiZUaFQT1o
I'm surprised no-one said "'ere, Barney, can you do the vocals again, they're a bit, er , flat" Hooky is free to do his thing because the bulk of the "bassline" is sequenced. You could do the same thing on the bottom couple of strings on a guitar, but it wouldn't have anywhere near the same visual impact. That's the clever bit.
6. Guild B301/302 is a quirky looking thing, it just isn't harmonious in design at all. I had one for years and never warmed to the shape. The same with the Shergold Marathon, it was never quite as nice looking as I WANTED it to be! Just an unimaginative body shape.
7. My '74 SG Special fell off a table IN IT'S CASE and got a headstock crack. I pretty much cried when I found out it was cracked days later, I have such a strong emotional attachment to it (18th birthday present, s/h!). It does seem to happen to Gibsons more than other mahogany-necked instruments. May be a combination of truss rod acess and voloute design and headstock angle. I've read even Gibson copies of the sme materials are far less prone to this. I think this was on a youtube vid of Gibson headstock repairs from a guy who had seen tons...
8. Have you tried turning the volume down on the bass? Just a thought.
9. The Spector Legend 5s crop up s/h quite often. I picked one up for well under your budget and really can't fault it on any count. The 35" scale helps it have a very assertive sound. EMG pickups and pre-amp on mine too.
10. If it sounds ok still, leave it alone!
11.
so what you guys are saying is that barefaced cabs are sh*t?
Nah! dey DA sh*t!
12. Air bassed my ass off at the works xmas party only this weekend. Can't beat "Good Times"!
13. Listening on small nasty pc speakers the bass drum is a bit missing and doesn't provide the drive. It may sound awesome on good speakers though!
14. I've done 3 with filler now, and 2 have had a little issue with only just enough adjustment on the truss rod. It could be just the basses though, as I had a fretted one of the same sort that wouldn't adjust far enough. Ended up replacing the truss rod on that one. I defretted a Vox standard and that was fine in every respect. The filler didn't seem to erode any more than the maple f/b.
15. My fretless Hohner Jack bass came back from an extended stay at my old guitarists house (was going to buy it when he got the money!) with one of the tuners no longer functioning - the thread in the sliding part was partially stripped and would not hold up under tension. The good news is I just managed to repair it with a Helicoil - type insert - there is JUST enough meat on the sliding part to drill tap and place the insert. It seems to work better than ever, a right result, and it only took ~5 minutes. If anyone else needs this doing, I'd be happy to once work has bought some new inserts . The threaded part of the adjuster does need to be intact though, but it is a standard m4 x 0.7 thread. Cheers Jules
16. A few weeks back, we'd just finished our soundcheck then the sound guy started playing some music through the PA. We'd recently been doing some demos at my place, so when one of our songs came on, I thought "how the hell did he get hold of that?" as only our singer had access to our demos, but it sounded great. When I asked the sound guy, he said it was what we'd just played in the soundcheck, stereo straight into his laptop! He did the whole gig later, but his hard drive died before the next time we played there I guess I wont ever know if it was just hearing it loud through the PA that made it sound that good...
17. Bob, you forgot the 2 U.S. Masters EP42 that you sold me! I got a lined fretless neck for the Lacewood one, which is my main gigging bass. The blue one now has the Pao Ferro/birdseye off the lacewood one.
