  1. You're at the start of a long and possibly never-ending journey! Good advice already listed but a few more thoughts: 1. Some basses work well with the Realist and others just don't. There are many pickups out there but I find that the K&K Bass Max is one of the most forgiving. 2. If you roll off all the bass to avoid feedback any rig will sound nasal. Use tone controls sparingly, just a little cut on the bass will likely fix the problem. And I wouldn't use the TH500's Drive at all on an upright, it will likely make the feedback worse and really you want the natural tone of the instrument. 3. Every room is different, especially with feedback. So be prepared to tweak things depending on where you are. Some rooms always sound crap on stage but things may be better out front so get someone with a good pair of ears to give you an opinion about what the audience is enjoying. 4, If the rest of the band is too loud then it's tough to compete on an upright. If you can't persuade them to turn down their stage volume then get yourself through the PA and put your on stage speaker off the ground as close to your ear s possible so you can hear yourself without feedback. Most people find it difficult to play in tune anyway and if you can't hear yourself it's likely to sound painful.
  2. Bowing is a mysterious world and my advice is the same as lowland trees above which is to find an experienced classical bassist or teacher to try out your setup and advise you. Remember that the bow is as important as the bass and if you have a hopeless bow no bass will ever work well or sound good. But without experienced help it's very hard to figure out what needs fixing. Good luck!
  3. Here is my Aguilar rig which has only been used occasionally over the last few years and it's time to shed a tear and let it go. I'm selling the two cabs, the regular GS112 with a tweeter and the second one with no tweeter (head is not included). The GS112 family is very clean-sounding with plenty of punch and the rig is rated at 600w and 4 ohms so will handle most situations with a suitable amp. The tweeter is powerful and adjustable and I normally like the sound with it turned down to about halfway. The size and weight of these cabs are quite manageable even for an old guy like me. The cabs are in very good condition with just a little rubbing in places on the carpet-style covering. On stage they look great. I'd rather sell them together as they work really well as a 4 ohm pairing. My price for the pair is only £650. To buy new the street price for the pair is £1200. Now price reduced to £575 - it's a snip! It wouldn't be easy to package and despatch them so it would be great if we could meet to hand them over. I'm happy to drive 40 miles from Reigate, Surrey to deliver or meet halfway. Do get in touch with any questions. 4. Hi Micky Man, I'm not sure how I engage with this but I'm interested in the Tonehammer as I've been wanting to try one with my new cabs. Does it come with some form of bag/case please?
  5. Hi, I've tried lots of pickups including the Shertler - too much feedback and the Realist - too muddy. The one I always come back to is the cheapest and simplest - the K&K Bass Max from (all hail) Bob Gollihur. Have fun!
