All this talk of PBasses makes me think that i need to try some more in case The One is out there. I have a nice 1982 Precision but it weighs more than an Austin Princess - I might have to go seek out the Perfect P.

Dammit. This thread has given me GAS.....

    Aaaaaaaaargh!

    Dammit, missed out:

    I'm guessing that's a 'No'. :)

It most definitely is a "No" and she works in a school where they harp on about "Health and Safety" all the time!

  4. I’m partially sighted. When I was a kid I watched a film called ‘The Postman Knocks Twice’ . In it the blind lady is being terrified by the baddie. He puts sharp knives into the waste disposal unit. Since then I’ve had a bit of a thing about sharp objects in sinks and such. Fast forward 50 years. Dishwasher’s cutlery baskets. Place the bloody knives in it blade down. Why the hell does the blade need to be upwards?

Same goes for your missus’s blender blade.

O, afte 30 years of marriage, can I get the message through to my missus🙄

Ta, it's Lake Placid Blue in case you were not aware!

Lol. I should have known. I have a 50s Classic Vibe PB in the same colour that I’m going to have to move on soon. I’m a leftie and learning bass on a rightie is just not working for, thus the OB50 thread as they now make leftie PB 50s!

Nice job, I see you have a  Herrick pickup, I have the alnico version on mine and found it quite 'bassy' so  changed the stock HB capacitor to a 0.2 from Monstertone along with a treble bleed kit too. I stopped at the new capacitor however, as it gave the highs quite a lift. I also got a lightly used set of La Bella Deep Talkin flats and prefer them to the Fender flats on my real Telebass.

My HB weighs in at 9.47lbs,  and here's a picture of mine:D

I am seriously loving that colour.

    Nice job!

Many years back I used to work on Devonshire street, around the corner from Radio London. Tony Blackburne was doing his record of the seem but the switchboard was broken so he said that the first 3 people to attend could be on the panel.

    I was the first.

This song was one of 3 songs to be judged.another was (iirc) Don't You sung be Central Line. Lastly was Eartha Kitt, where is my man. When i heard the Eartha Kitt song and was asked to comment i was somewhat uncomplimentary.

Tony Blackburn glared at me and then said "Well that' a shame because EartKitt is my special guest"

    I was shown the door.....

  8. I listened to Westwood in the old days. Always seemed like an odd accent to me but I enjoyed the music.

Attended several concerts including this one; http://www.mikeallencapitalradio.com/home/ukfresh87-88/uk-fresh-86

I still listen to hip hop nowadays but I'm told I'm getting too old to listen to it nowadays! ;-)

Have bought all these since Christmas, love the sound. From left - Baglama Saz, two Elektro Saz's and a Cura Saz.

    Baglama means tied.

  10. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have recently been given a Jim Deacon as a gift. It's in need of sorting but after I found out they were an "affordable" make just left it in a corner of the sitting room.

MR Funky, did you find out if the JD uses standard sizes?

My one is black with red tort guard. The strings are too big for the nut and so sit on it rather than in it..... that's how it came!

  11. You might want to use Tru-oil or maybe Danish oil.

The suggestion to use 0000 wire wool between coats is a good one. However do not wipe off the dust from each sanding. Instead use it as a wood filler which you will combine in the next coat and sand down.

    Works on my shotguns.

You might want to wax, but I prefer the oiled finish directly.

  12. I've been thinking on the perennial problem of bass carrying, the weight of the instrument.

So often I see threads where someone is selling a favoured instrument because of weight or a thread on suffering due to that weight.

So, I was thinking, perhaps we need a different way to carry a bass.

When buying bergens you look for a sturdy belt that will hold the weight, taking it off your shoulders and making it possible to walk for hours in relative comfort whilst carrying significantly more than the weight of a bass.

What might be needed then is a way of belt mounting a bass.

    Discuss.

  13. Scrumpymike,

I'm new to the whole music / Bass thing but when researching what to buy, was very surprised bt write ups of low to mid level instruments.

In the end i bought a Classuc Vibe Jazz, only to find that I'm now lusting after a 54 P Bass as well....

Things may be better made, but it just leads to easier to salve G(B?)AS.

I can see peoples houses' filling with Bass after good quality affordable Bass! ;-)
