1. Just got an update that my JMJ won't arrive before the second half of May. Anyone expecting theirs sooner?
2. I took the plunge and bought the Gator XL guitar case... it fits! As the measurements predicted the Mustang is a bit longer than the total interior length of the case. But it’s only a matter of gently pushing the padded foam backwards a little, so the headstock can sink in. I tried to capture it in the second picture. Unfortunately it’s black on black, so it’s hard to tell. I hope the JMJ Mustang I’ve ordered will fit as well. Thank you all for the suggestions and maybe this can be of any help for someone else in the future!
3. FYI: I sent an email to Thomann about whether the XL Gator Guitar case would fit. Got a clear "no" back form them. But judging by the speed of their answer, I don't think they actually tried to fit a Mustang in the case.
4. Thanks a lot! I’ve meaning to do the same thing, but you beat me to it. My Mikey Way has a total length of 1075mm (body length 487mm). Also expecting a JMJ Mustang I ordered a while ago. I don’t exactly know what kind of foam is used for the interior of cases. But if the foam of this gator case could be pressed only a little, it may end up being a good snug fit.
5. I have been doing some research about this for some time now. Could it be that there is really no cheap alternative to the £175/€200 Fender case for a Mustang bass? This seems to be a good option, but not after adding shipping and taxes: Douglas BGC-200 3/4 BK Short Scale Bass Case Any other ideas? Thanks!
6. I'm the guy who bought the cab from PauBass. It was very cool to read so much good info about how to deal with the unfortunate shipping. But most of all: if anyone stumbles on this thread later on, don't hesitate to buy from Pablo! The cab was very well packaged. And he did everything he could afterwards to find a solution. He is a great person.
7. Thanks for your demos Andy! No intention to hijack this thread, but had a quick question for you. I saw your Grand Orbiter V2 demo this weekend and now I stumbled upon this thread as I was looking for info on the DOD Phasor. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to to A/B them at a shop, so I wondered which of those 2 phasers you would recommend? I'm mainly looking for a slow and quite subtle swirl to add to a fast repetitive pulsating bass line (with medium OD going on). I'm leaning towards the Grand Orbiter as it has a wet/dry mix and seems very tweakable (but maybe too tweakable?). Cheers!
8.
This has been the case with every threaded saddle BBOT bridge Jazz Bass that I've seen or own(ed). Not at all unusual, and makes absolutely no sonic difference, but it might nag at one's OCD a bit! ;-)
After years of buying second hand amps, basses, pedals - both in person or shipped without testing them - this bass indeed seriously nags my OCD! Ah, the irony of buying a new reliced instrument... I'm in love with it though. Thanks for chiming in everyone!
9. Luckily it is. Although in fact there is a bit of a difference between the positioning of the strings on neck and the bridge pup. Don't know if this is a real issue or not, as it's the first jazz I own and I read a lot of different opinions about this. Here's a pic of the pickguard and the pup's on my bass.
10. A question for the fellow Flea owners re the aging of the pickguard. Is everyone's pickguard aged as strong as the one in this picture below? To be clear: this is a shot from an online store. It's not my bass and actually, in comparison, my pickguard looks quite shiny and new (unfortunately)
11.
Not for me. I have always wanted a Roadworn Fender. I have always wanted a shell pink Fender. I have been interested in stacked knob Jazz basses for a while. I had no clue these would hit the market as a sig model with quality pickups etc.
+1
12. Mine arrived yesterday. Was a bit frightened at first as Guitar Guitar had packaged it in a box that was a bit too small. One of the sides of the box had a clear hump where the headstock was located, albeit in the gig bag and with some extra bubble wrap outside the gig bag... After tuning and having a first inspection and test there seems to be no harm done. The pick guard is less aged than what I've seen from other owners, though. Did anybody else already see this? Somebody in Germany took the relicing a step further... 13.
Good luck with your new bass mate hopefully we'll both get good ones!
Good luck to you as well, and thank you for the info!
14.
Just been talking to GuitarGuitar following up on my bass, they had a group stock of 8 basses on Friday now they've all gone, theyre now charging £949 for the next run of orders... Could be a continual price hike on these basses if they keep on selling out...
First post on Basschat... Hello! One of those 8 basses from GG is heading my way. Really looking forward to it. Had just bought a Ric two months ago and swore I would not buy another bass for quite some time. Then a few weeks ago a severe case of GAS. Flea being one of my big sources of inspiration when I started playing bass while I was a kid in the 90s, the look and feel of the RW-series, the colour and the stacked knobs,... The bass just ticked too many boxes!! @Spacecowboy: did GG tell you what they're doing with the bass you've sent back? I wonder what happens in a case like that.
