1. That's gorgeous, what a great build! I've always been a fan of the mockingbird (and eagle btw) shape
2. Hi everyone, I'm in the process of restoring/fiddling about with an old banjolin (Mandolin strings and tuning, Banjo-esque body). Never played one before, just bought it once for the novelty of it, but still a long way to go before it's playable . Some time ago I already made a new nut from bone, but now I'm wondering what I should use to file the nut? Since the mandolin strings are ofcourse very narrow...

Vantage Dual P

No problem, thanks for answering! In the meantime I was able to locate the issue, a break in the wire at the side of the switch, so should hopefully be an easy fix

Vantage Dual P

That's a gorgeous collection! I had a few vantages (VS600B, VS696B, VP795B), loved them all to a certain extent, but in the end only the VP710B stayed. I'm having some issues with it however, the bridge pickup is suddenly very quiet (hadn't played it for ages). Would you by any chance have a wiring diagram you're willing to share?
5. I DID see that the original post is from 2009, but I wanted to post anyway 😁 As a lover of Japcrap (is that still a thing?), I've owned a number of Westone basses. - Westone Concord Bass I from 1981, (the only one still in my possession, but in need of a lot of work), amazing P bass - Westone Thunder Jet fretless bass - Westone Spectrum GT bass - Westone Raider (Silver sparkle) - Westone Quantum bass, this one I only had in my possession for the most part of a week. I just finished cleaning and giving it a proper setup, when I got an e-mail from the seller's son. Apparently he wasn't aware that his father was selling the bass, and was always hoping to inherit it at some point. I could have chosen to keep the bass, but that didn't seem right to me, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it knowing it "belonged" to someone else (even though it did belong to me since I went to pick it up, paid the asking price, etc ). So the son came over and picked it up, and of course reimbursed me. Seemed like the right thing to do So I was quite a big fan of Westone, altough of the Matsumoku basses I prefer Vantage. I really liked all basses mentioned above, but the Spectrum GT was mediocre at best. If you can find a Westone for a decent price, you can get a lot of bang for your buck! Just keep in mind that the post-1987 ones are Made in Korea and not Matsumoku made.
6. Curious to see how it will turn out I'm a huge fan of double split-coils combined with dark wood wings/light wood center kind of basses (Early BC Rich, Westone, Vantage,...), nice and unique design you have there!
7. I've had it for something like a decade. Mind you, I was always very protective about my hearing, using plugs during gigs, or over ear muffs when doing DIY and things like that. For me it started once during the exams, I had really bad ringing in my ears. Went to a specialist, hearing range etc was perfect, apparently it was due to stress and lack of sleep. And indeed, when the stress levels were reduced, so was the ringing. This went on for a year or 4, the ringing would come back during times of stress (exams, mostly), and would vanish again. During that 4th year, one night I was struggling to sleep, the ringing started again... And never went away after that. It was really weird since I hadn't gone to any particular loud event, or wasn't exposed to any loud noises... From time to time I really hate it, but most of the time, I'm used to it... It's like a part of you that you learn to live with, or that you HAVE to learn to live with. So good luck and take care of your ears and yourself
8. I have one of those (and have had several Vantages), and apart from the bridge (which was also bent) everything is more than decent! An epiphone 3-point bridge fits them perfectly, and they come along from time to time for not much money so it's easily replaced In my opinion, £300 is what it should be going for, and you get a LOT of bass for your money.
9. - No neckdive as far as I can recall (I sold it about 4 years ago), I did experience it on my (now also sold) VS600B, which was medium scale and lighter in weight. This one was heavier, and I used a wide strap with it - It's like a precision on steroids, the output of the PU is very high, and the sound was very clear and had lots of attack, probably partially due to the brass nut and bridge I especially liked the neck on this bass, same as for other Vantages (I've had a VS600B, VS696B, VS795B and still own a VP710B), really comfortable to play
10. I had one of those! And yes, they are legit Matsu's. Really nice bass, definitely worth it
