Some might call Rickies medium scale at 33”. Personally I think that is a push. Aren’t they incredibly heavy?

I don’t think I am ever going to find out now, as they are just too expensive for me to take a punt on. However, over on Talk Bass quite a few people have said the Nordstrand Acinonyx channels the Rickenbacker vibe. I wouldn’t know, not ever having had a Rickenbacker but I do enjoy the Acinonyx.

Thing is it’s 33 1/3 so it’s not even an inch off standard. But what is different is how the neck connects to the body and where this put the upper horn.

I’m fine and comfortable switching basses, there was a time when I was gigging in 1 band one night with a 36inch scale overwater, next the ric and then another band on an old 30inch hofner solid body.

For me my 4003 has massive sentimental value (Dad bought it for me when I was 15) so eventually it became my main bass, then what I’ve found is my recent gas streak is because I’ve not been playing it, but I can’t drag it all over the world. So I tried loads of alternatives but I’m just bouncing from bass to bass, then every time I play the Ric I feel at home and at peace.

The Acinonyx is nice but I don’t like more unfinished satin necks on any bass., I don’t think to much of my love of the ric as a love of the sound, more the feel, the mute

Retrovibe have some vaguely Rick-ish shorty basses in stock.  I got in touch with David and he is currently knocking me up a slightly more Rick-ish version.  Short scale.  Although we recently went off plan for a more blingy black stain, no pickguard, gold hardware look.  Not entirely sure what it will end up like but it should be fun.  :D  This was the last mock up but things seem to be fluid :D

    image0.jpg.5aafad835c7eb736d8fc5bbd3d5da67f.jpg

It was suggested to me to get a shortscale ric, but it wouldn’t feel the same and soundwise its kinda what Serek are going for. But that does look lovely.

We’ll see, few months with a bigger bass might be heaven or really frustrating.

There is something about the Ric necks once you are accustomed to them , it’s probably the slight taper. I find whenever I pick up a Ric there’s that revelation. They really do feel like home. And they will be among the last things I ever sell.

But I’m sticking with the shortscales.

There is a good chance that the Serek will stay, I just want to travel with the Ric for a bit so it doesn’t feel like such a relief to come back home 😅and what you’ve said about feeling like home is exactly how it’s been the past 2 years.

Also with some really dead flats and the mute up high, nothing else sounds like it.

I bought a 1973 4000 to mimic my 2000’s 4003. Figured it was simpler, less to go wrong and would still be worth what I paid unless an airline snap the neck off it 😂

For anyone interested in the Pawn Shop, I’m out of the UK till June but could come through in April or May to facilitate a sale.

  3. Well I think I’m jumping back on the long (normal?) scale train after deciding I just feel so at home on a Rickenbacker.

Will likely be listing my Pawn Shop Mustang in the near future, undecided on my Serek, Hofner will stay because nothing does the hofner vibe like a hofner.

Then that would take me down to 3 basses…….. .finally

Then I’ll have a bunch of high end guitar cases to sell 😅

  4. Next up on the chopping block, pretty rare (certainly in the UK) Groove Tube Ditto DI Box. I bought this a few years ago after a long long hunt after hearing about Lee Sklar using one in the 2000’s (think I lusted after one for 15 years?)

I did a bit of recording with it, sold it as I went travelling, bought it back, bought a second one in the states, did a bit more recording with it, .

I’ve done a shootout with it and near every other DI on the planet, it’s up there with the Reddi and the Khan, better than the Neve or Acme but as I travel so much it’s just wasted on me.

Comes with an SKB case (as pictured) with fitted pick n pluck foam

Huge transformers, easy to swap tubes, sounds great pushing a nice preamp like my Cranborne Audio Camden.

Listing as part of my bit clear out, will not be sad if no one is interested 😅 I’ll just bring the other back from the US and run both on my 4003 with a ric-o-sound cable 😈.

  5. Yeah, they’ve basically solved all my issues with the older models with this.

Dedicated master volume is a big plus.

I’d still like to see the full fx list of the new 60b+ but I’m leaning CDR.

Just have to sell my existing MS’s (all 3 of them) 😅🙄

  6. Yeah this is a no brainer for me too. I’m ordering a new Gruv Gear Kapsule and already checked the the shop that has it has the Katana Go so will snag both at the same time towards the end of next week.

  7. Dammit, just when I thought I’d sorted my portable rig out 🙄

I’ll be buying one, I had issues with some artifacts I could hear with the NUX that really annoyed me once I noticed it.

The button is stiff and requires a really hard press to change settings at times

This is in reference to the MS60b I have since removed from sale.

    The 70cdr works perfectly

  9. Bought this from the forum following a session where I felt I had to keep going over to the mixing desk. Following that I’ve found it’s easier to just have someone operate that mixing desk so this is redundant having not been used.

Unit is fully functional and works great.

I was actually tempted to have this basically be my full rig. It’s a wireless where the pedal then works as a tuner and has a very nice DI out.

Powers from standard 9vdc and has a usb c out to charge the little pack/bug.

As per when I bought it it’s missing a few things, 1 the power supply (which you’re not going to use as it’s standard 9vdc and you’re going to put it on your pedalboard) and then some little clips and things that I think attach this to your strap and you run an extension from the bass to the bug. 🤷‍♂️

    Replacements are available here: https://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_xsw_d_beltpack_clip.htm

What I did find with these is they are all interchangeable, so you can have this and buy another receiving dongle and have a super light rig where maybe you use the pedal version here with your pedalboard or just another dongle when traveling light (https://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_xsw_d_instrument_rx_517353.htm)

    More info here: https://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_xsw_d_pedalboard_set.htm?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-r-vBhC-ARIsAGgUO2C1sdNYYLygehIUuRYe8mM6pj-r914N-lOvEjdlpjq6-D-32tZ3f5AaApmPEALw_wcB

    Or for example

    You could tack on

https://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_xsw_d_xlr_male_rx.htm and go straight from the bug/dongle to the desk (assuming you’re close enough)

Or plug the bug/dongle from this set into an aux out on a desk and wear this https://www.thomann.de/gb/sennheiser_xsw_d_mini_jack_rx.htm and have an IEM rig.

I think you can also buy a more traditional pack and connect it to the tuner/pedal/receiver.

Also price wise this is a steal.

  10. To clarify I replaced mine with a Cranborne Audio Camden EC1 and Airfly Bluetooth adaptor so not an insignificant upgrade. Then immediately my next trip I was like damn, could have fit this in x case if I wasn’t bringing all this stuff 😅

I’ll check them out again when they release a newer version or the Mooer P2 get the bass features

  11. Well travelled but fully functional. New clasp version.

I did about 18 months of bouncing around the world with this and mustang in a Gruv Gear Edge, never had any damage or issues, managed to shove stuff down the sides of it with the bass in.

But basically I’ve outgrown this, I’m moving over to the GruvGear Kapsule and back to full size basses (so my guitar kapsule needs a bigger brother).

Open to offers, can ship this.

Great travel case and current Janek Gwizdala’s favourite, he uses his with a slickbag.

Could one use the mighty plug (pro) as an effect rag by feeding the output of the headphone amp directly into a bass amp for on stage use? Is the signal not too strong or is there a supplementary output? Thx for your answer!

You could but I wouldn’t bother nothing in the plug is good enough to warrant making it your primary setup over buying a Zoom MS60b (new + model) or the new Line 6 Bass Pod Express.

I’ve recently sold mine, given I spend a lot of time playing with headphones I’ve decided my ears deserve better than the cheapest digital device that ticked all the boxes functionally.

Quality over convenience for me now (at least for a bit)

  13. As you all saw I listed mine for sale.

Following my last studio date and even though I had positive feedback about the sound. I’ve found I don’t need the capo doing the work of the studio outboard gear, that’s why I’m in the studio.

I’d much rather the engineer is dialing me in his side than at my feet.

I want and enjoy changing basses in the studio so I’m better running 2-3 separate chains.

This is my “gig” for the foreseeable future and in reviewing the recordings I’m happiest with my countryman.

I think done buying “tone” pedals, it’s weird stuff now going forward or it’s nothing 😅

  14. I can totally see why I overlooked B side.

Maybe it will grow on me.

Recent feedback in the studio was the A side with whatever settings I threw down was the signal that needed the least doing to it/was the closest to what they’d apply with pres and comps when tracking.

Something about it still makes me want to sell it all the time 😅

  15. Wasn’t sure about this, I’ve hardly used it. Took it to the studio yesterday and I can’t hear the difference between this and my Groove Tube Ditto or the Clean DI out on my JF Capo.

Probably the snobbery and the 12vac that bothers me about it.

What I should do is sell everything else and buy 2 of these and find an AC power supply thats more pedalboard/gigbag friendly

Either way, hardly used it, likely never will, got to clear out one of my 27 million di’s and preamps.

    Grab a bargain.

    Includes box and power supply

  16. A former favourite of mine but something about it just bugs me and I’ve got the luxury of being able to have something bigger for practice.

Great practice tool, built in bluetooth to connect to your phone. I’ve used it as a recording interface with the usb c out.

No box, no cable (it’s usb c, just use your phone charger), just the plug…. which you can plug and erm well play.

Open to offers and trades on a TC Polytune 3 or Peterson Strobostomp HD (cash from me)
