The PSA 2.0 won't fit on my nano board. I wish they'd find a way to do portrait versions. even if it was a bt on the long side.

Wowsers, and it’s a very small pedal!!

  2. In an ideal world no - but a while back was given about a weeks notice for a gig with 2 new guys after we had jammed together just once before.

Had to put together an 8-10 song set, they designated me vocalist/singist, most of which I hadn’t played before.

i used an iPad with a holder that clipped to the mic stand and a Bluetooth page turner which I left on the floor.

i set up the pages so it was a verse and chorus each page (pretty much) so that it was a decent size. At the end of each verse I tapped and it shifted.

Tried me best to learn the words, but it was there as a just in case. I agree with not being glued to the screen, but I had to do devils work and glance every now and then to stay correct. The drummer wrote his words for BV’s on the skins of his drums on the night.

Sometimes a necessary evil when you also have a day job!

How can they try to say that if it arrived like it from new.

Modern kiln drying takes something of the quality out of the timber and if not done correctly can still leave timber being more inclined to move. There is a reason timber seasoned naturally takes years and is better and yes it costs more as well if you are lucky enough to find it.

I have seen badly back bowed necks and burst bodies on what are considered higher than average priced instruments. Builders should not take short cuts when they claim something is built to a high standard neither should they bury their heads in the sand over problems. It's only when you face your mistakes you live on to correct them.

That should have been filled on the production line not left to fosters you off of from buying another one.

No one is perfect and wood certainly is not perfect being an organic material which can change.

Kiln treatment and storages seasoning are separate things.

Sandberg teamed up with a university to properly research and pinpoint their thermo treatment, after wood has been seasoned to look at cellular stability, water content etc same as with Vibration treatment.

Having been to the Sandberg factory and seen the process, how they store wood, treat it, realising how much Hölger cares and his knowledge after being a piano builder prior to Sandberg which has now been running nearly 40 years and how staff take care, it won’t be for lack of love, but they will rectify any situation once they are aware and the merchant hasn’t fobbed a customer off

The passive TT4 has a very traditional tone. The Umbo is Sandberg's "passive only" design.

I  have a VS4 that I put an EMG Geezer Butler in and it sounds like a good Precision.

Here's my basses (again). All passive. All traditional sounding.

    I've also owned a VM4, a TM4 and an active TT4 previously.

Umbo is not the only passive only design, Marlowe DK is another…and I think the bass the world TT

  5. It really all depends what you want

yes the pick ups give a flavour, but, if you have an amp or a preamp you like the Sandbergs are perfect - delanos are not sterile by any means, but are fairly neutral, they will sit there and allow you to mould your sound.

Use what available EQ, amp, cab sims, pedals you want etc and you know you have a wonderful sounding bass to project your playing

  6. Brilliant basses, supremely made, great customer services

    Just know what you want.

    Active vs passive

If active - which pre-amp, standard 2 band or 3 band or a different one (Darkglass)

Passive - which pick ups they off, Delano, sandberg, sandberg black label, Haüssel’s

Which neck - for example the MarloweDK is a different neck profile

once you got it sorted - bass for life

  7. If you want beefy jazz pick ups look at Haüssel pick ups

You want active ones Seymour Duncan AJJ

also consider speaking to Creamery pick ups in Manchester - the 58 P I have from him is probably one of the best I have ever heard/had.

Failing a change - a good preamp and or Amp EQ fiddle should get you there

Interestingly, and depressingly, a study was done by a UK university very recently that came to the conclusion that there is no level of alcohol intake that is safe, including the eponymous odd glass of red wine.

As regards compression, I don't use any on my double bass (being acoustic I feel it sounds better without it), but with my bass guitars I use compression in all its forms from light to super aggressive as a means of tone manipulation.

no doubting the study or what you say

Chances are that if you're using any amp with a tube in it, you're experiencing some form of compression.

For compression to exist, you don't need to have a box with the label "COMPRESSOR" on it.

Not to mention speaker compression when those speakers are being driven hard, even by a very clean, high headroom solid state amp.

tube compression is a whole other topic!!!! But point taken

Fair. I’ve asked but he’s not stepping up 🙄. We are playing an interpretation rather than a faithful cover so I only wanted to nod to the original which is why I was thinking I could just echo the bass line

    8.46 - 9.00.

I'm not the first person to think there was something up with the playback @ 8.52. That's dynamic control:

    agreed - great track.

Didn't Danny Gatton use a Fender Vibrolux reverb amp, or a Bassman Combo?

If I remember right the Bassman has a classic ‘Presence’ switch which is post EQ in the power amp stage specifically acting like a mid to High frequency shelving boost control - sounds a little like multiband

compression to aid his wonderful dynamics….

  14. @Grimalkin you are getting the wrong end of the stick - when I was using a mute on my cornet or saxophone, or a fist in the French horn that is not integral - it’s an external addition to allow a sound to balance withe others when those instruments had to take a back seat - very difficult to play brass quietly, believe me!

we are talking about compression for balance not for killing.

Orchestra is not the best example, for a start most concert halls if properly designed are done to allow balance, if choirs are involved (been there) then they will be Mic’d and balanced (probably some compression) with the instruments.

Many newer orchestral halls are using PA’s alongside natural Flow to make an even spread around all seats (if done right!)

Live recordings of orchestra music which is what most microphones are there for, you can bet when mixed to be released will be compressed a little no matter how good the orchestra is.

Many orchestras/mini orchestras are playing alongside electric instruments and having to go through a PA, and guess what will happen…….

No one except crap application is trying to get rid of dynamics
