    I do the same, OnSong is great as an aide memoir. And it's worth getting the Bluetooth foot pedal to move through The charts. Really useful. if I end up back in a covers band some time that's what I'll be using!

  4. Isn't it funny how some great players pass you by. I've been reading guitar/bass mags since 1984 so have read loads of articles about Sheehan. However I can only claim to have knowingly heard one song he plays on. And that one is the big acoustic ballad hit that Mr Big had way back. Just never registered onmy listening radar. Odd...

  5. Reading the OP again, and much as I love Peaches, I suspect that Mr B has a slightly over inflated (and tongue firmly placed in cheek) view of his place in the pantheon of music... :unsure:

    Sad to say, if you asked the average man on the Clapham omnibus to hum a song by the Stranglers it would be Golden Brown 99% of the time, not Peaches or No More Heroes. Ah, the curse of an uncharacteristic mega hit! Just ask the Toy Dolls or The Dickies. :lol:

  6. On the price... The TU-3 list price when it first came out a out 5 or so years ago was £75-80. I've only seen them at about £60 for the last few months. It could be they've dropped the price to undercut the Polytune which must have lost them a shed load of sales over the last few years at a price point similar to the old TU-3 price.

    As to the mini TU-3, the lack of a mute function would rule it right out for me. But if I had a pedalboard that featured a vol pedal...? Maybe, but I don't. The price seems a bit cheeky given the smaller size and lack of foot switch.

    Not been aware of the Waza range before. A new Boss thing I guess, but how much better can am already industry standard in line tuner get with some tighter QA'd resistors? And double the price of the standard model? I smell snake oil!

  7. Looks pretty good to me, though I'd probably plonk the chorus earlier in the chain, maybe after the Multicomp. Prefer to grit the chorus than chorus the grit.

    On the envelope filter, I'd stick it before the compressor to ensure the filter saw more dynamics in the signal...

  8. Oooooooh, here's a thought. Could I buy any cheap old beat up bass for a song and then put it up for sale adding £200 onto the asking price by claiming that it's been authentically "relic-ed"?

    Rosewood feels nicer because it's not all varnished and shiny (and because I prefer rosewood)...

  10. Well, my sig would suggest that for me the answer to the question "P or J?" is actually "W" but if I had to choose between the two it would be "J". That's mostly down to neck width and feel, though I do also enjoy the particular tones of a J and the flexibility of the two pickups.

  11. Well, let's see... I know the bass player in Mabon. He's just gone from Spectors and MMs to a Wal. Peggy has an Ibanez Soundgear. Iona in the time I've followed them have had a Chapman Stick, Wals, MMs, Warriors, Steinbergers. Kemp has a Ric. I played folk back in the day with an Aria SB700, a Wal and an EMG equipped Squier...

    This suggests to me that the correct answer is "Whatever you fancy...!" So, I'd stick with the MM then unless you fancy something different... Or not...

  12. Quite possibly. The open book headstock shape isn't quite like a typical early 80s shape. The ends are a bit pointy.

    Some sort of late 80s or early 90s reissue? Whatever, it's a lovely bass!

  13. Looks to me to be either an SB-R80 or SB Elite II. Maybe more likely the latter.

    The SB range featured the following initially... SB600 (single pickup set neck), SB700 (single pickup thru neck), SB900 (two pickup thru neck), SB1000 (single pickup, active circuit, thru neck)

    The R series sort of mirrored this but with a wider bridge and string spacing. The SB-80 was the equivalent of the SB900. The R series featured the distinctive "eye" dot markers whereas the SBs had simple dots.

    The SB Elites came along layter as a sort of simplified SB range. The SB Elite II was the twin pickup model...

    Across each model range and across time the fine details varied... The bat ear or book headstock, round or tear drop pick up selectors, recessed or flat Jack sockets, single or stack knobs so it can be confusing to tie a model down sometimes.

    Geddy Lee (I love so many things about Rush but Geddy's playing on the albums between 1980 and 1995 is just sublime for me)

    Phil Lynott (probably my fave band and if I had to choose he would be equal first with Geddy)

    Abraham Laboriel (first got into him through his Christian jazz/funk band, Koinonia, and then discovered he had played on a whole other range of tunes I loved)

    Kelly Groucutt (from ELO. Been such a fan of the band since the mid 70s and Kelly's playing has given me so much enjoyment over that time)

    Barry Devlin (from Horslips. Another band I have loved since they first released The Tain back in the 70s. Again, he's on the list on the basis of the amount of joy his playing has given me over the years)


    Honourable mentions (& should really be on that top five list too...): Chris Squire, Lee Sklar, John Gustafson, John G Perry, Neil Murray, John Wetton, Jamerson/Babbitt/Dunn... the list goes on...
