"Can I have the strings a bit earlier in my headphones....". I think that was a Clem retort to an engineer back in the day.
A session legend. A two part interview below...

Just noticed a thread on another site about the late, great, Brazilian Bassist, Arthur Maia. Defiantly worth checking out if you haven't heard him play before.
A terrific player...

Sad to hear this and really no age.

You will need the full version of Kontakt for these Instruments but, VSTBuzz have some very good freebies up on their site.
If you are not familiar with the company, there are regular deals on offer and always worth a look.

Both Cubase (and Nuendo) have a pretty in-depth Drum and Percussion VSTi bundled in with their DAW's - Groove Agent 5 SE.
It has standard Acoustic kits, Hybrid, Electronic and various Percussion kits, including World/Ethnic sounds.
It has a pattern/groove generator plus, it includes midi files for internal and external use.
There is also a decent upgrade price to the full version of 'Groove Agent'. Plus, additional kits can be purchased.
Even the cheaper Cubase Artist, or indeed Elements at £85.00 includes Groove Agent SE.

As a bonus, my eyes have gone all funny as of this evening, and even typing this is very odd, with as many corrections as correct hits. Hmm... S'not as if I don't get enough sleep, either. Hmm... Old age, eh..? It's a rum do alright.
Maybe you were sleepwalking and walked into that door in the OP?
I hope your eyes get better.

The version of Cubase I have will handle VST instruments just fine. What you cannot do is insert a MIDI track and send it to various instruments so using a multitimbral synth or Kontakt player to it's full capacity for example aren't possible.
I'm not sure what version of Cubase you are using but, as far as I'm aware, that has been possible for many years.
You have two options. One single (Instrument) track, which is midi in and audio out combined. Then there is a 'Rack' track...
The Rack track can handle up to 16 midi tracks on each port of any multi timbral instrument. One midi track can drive 16 instruments all set to (eg) midi channel 1.

There are not many videos up of Jeff and Mike Porcaro together on a live gig.
Terrific stuff all round.

But I'm 100% sure Bob Geldoff really did play the sax solo on a candelabra.
Well, if he did, it wasn't the Candelabra in the OP video. Judging by the size, that's an Alto Candelabra.

This was Top of the Pops. As far as I know, the artists had to sing but the music was mimed; consequently Bob Geldof manages to produce lifelike sax sounds out of a candelabra but I also remember Rod Stewart (I think it was Rod Stewart) once performing with his lyrics on a piece of paper as he hadn't memorised them. So I'm not sure if the real bass line was slapped, I can't tell from the clip.
Sounds like a pick on the original to me. And, I've just tortured myself by watching a couple of live versions on YouTube.
The Bassist was playing with a pick on those versions.

Amazing bass playing from one of my favourites. He just gets more and more creative as this cracker of a jazz funk record progresses.
Larry Carlton on Guitar, Wilton Felder tenor sax, Joe Sample Keys.
Over the Basschat years, BB5, I think myself and yourself have posted up 'Spiral' more times than the Crusaders have played it live...
I love the way 'Pops' attacks the notes and gets stuck in during the solo, all while holding the groove down.
Top, top playing from the man.

I can't seem to find it, but I'm pretty sure there was a 2014 remaster knocking around as well.
-
Bobby Whitlock's take on the remix and remaster....
I must admit, judging by the OP video soundtrack, I agree with him. Unless, of course, that OP video is not a true representation of what was released on vinyl (I can't imagine it is).
In fairness, Coco Carmel does say that the Stream version sounds better.

Did you check out the video of her singing live in a bar? Can't see how you could do that with auto(de)tune.
I was just saying what's possible. (I should have worded it differently)
Personally, I think she is just an awful singer, so I have no intention of listening to anymore or her nonsense videos...

Surely if this was a genuinely deluded singer, even a bedroom sound engineer would have auto-tune all over this?
As has already been pointed out, it's difficult to sing this out of tune... so it's got to be deliberate as far as I'm concerned. Someone signing it normally, then pitch-shifting a quarter tone for example.
This crossed my mind and maybe there could be a bit of mischievous, skulduggery at work here. Of course, it could just as well be a terrible, deluded vocalist at work.
Using Variaudio, in Cubase, you can fine tune pitchy notes and play with the vibrato speeds and slides. The results are very good with few artefacts (if any) if used sparingly.
Although, I haven't tried it in anger. you can also do some reverse engineering and turn an excellent vocal performance into a train crash, sounding very much like the OP video.
Experiment, or not. To me, with an over the top vocal fail and terrible, amateur, student acting from all involved, including nods to Kate Bush and Sharon Stone from the top turn, it's all one big Urine take.
Quite frankly, I can't believe I listened to it all the way through.

If you have to hump your Cow around with you, it's not a particularly mobile set up for Jam sessions though, surely?

And another terrific freebie (Kontakt full).
A solo Trumpet.
https://www.norrlandsamples.com/
It's very playable and sounds quite realistic with no key switching required. The articulations can be engaged via midi learn and CC# control on your controller.
There is also an option for a donation if you feel it's worth it. The free download link is about halfway down the page and easy to miss.
The reaction over on VI Control is very encouraging as well...
