But does your dog write music? Does it use language?

In all seriousness, yes and yes.

If transcriptions of Charlie Parker improvising count as composing, then a dog singing the songs of its people has equal validity.

As for language, not all language is verbal. Dogs certainly know how to communicate with each other and humans.

  2. Fun debate on the interweb, but the reality as others have said, is that AI music is already out there and it's not going to go away. Performers in certain genres have already been in the Hit Parade with AI songs, and ice dancers in the Winter Olympics were using AI songs.

Prompt engineering is where it's at! 😆

I've no issue with full disclosure ai labelling whether it be "fully ai generated", "ai assisted" etc -

Full disclosure labelling. I like that!

    So for example:

    My Generation

     - P. Townsend (didn't write the bass line)

    Every breath you take

     - G. Sumner (didn't write the guitar part)

    Etc.

Eventually you hit the point when you realise buying one more guitar does not make you a better player , it just means you have one more guitar .

You say that as if it's a bad thing...

William Shatner is set to release a new album later this year, featuring a number of handpicked musicians.

I've been a follower of his musical output for some time. He's done some really interesting stuff over the years (some might put that "interesting" in inverted brackets 😂), but his 2004 album Has Been is a really good album.

William Shatner to Release Metal Album Featuring 35 Handpicked Musicians

I saw him on about this on the Facebook. As 1st April is more than a month away, I assumed it was A.I. 🤣

As an aside to this thread, remember these pedals don't come with a rule book. I have the one above (the only one from the range that Jack doesn't seem to have 😆) and last night at rehearsal we used it with the trumpet. The octave down setting made for a useable tenor sax sound, and the group setting made for a useable brass section type sound.

I got dragged kicking and screaming to a C&D gig at Salisbury city hall at the age of about 35... I loved it by the end, great musicians and entertainers. Battered old case full of CDs for a merch stand 😄

I saw them at the Great British Beer Festival one year. Perfect place to see them 😎

Don't remember any Trace gear though.

I'm not familiar with them. What's their story?

I wouldn’t know where to start! I’m sure someone will come along and explain their backstory very eloquently. I know they were well-respected session musicians in the 1960s, and then they morphed into this unique act. I think they were regarded as a bit of a novelty act by the general public, with their cheeky singles in late 70s/early 80s, but they’re clearly very talented performers:

"I was at Eric Clapton's wedding when I joined the Beatles" Chas laughs.

"Me and the missus got invited an there was a marquee set up in the grounds with a stage, amps and drum kit in case anyone felt like getting up and having a jam.

"Anyway, this little kid started bashing the drums and called over to me saying "C'mon Chas, sing Gertcha for us". So I go up with the mic and started singing some rock and roll stuff. I looked up and there was Ringo sitting there smiling at me. The next thing I knew Paul was plugging in his bass and George slipping a guitar over his head. And there's me in the middle thinking "I'm the fourth flippin' Beatle here!"

  9. Dress rehearsal for next weeks gig, so all using our own gear.

Shuker 3 -> Swiff Audio wireless -> TC Electronics BH800 -> Tech Sound Systems 2x12 (modified).

I had trouble with my sound all evening. Couldn't get it right it was always too toppy or clanky, or not bassy enough. The only thing that has changed is that my strings are now DR Neons (Christmas gift).

I finally got it right on the last song. Flat EQ but with the bass boosted to 4 o'clock. Spectracomp tone print on full.

Best gig I ever went to was The Ramones at the Humming Bird Birmingham in around 1993.

My one slight regret is that by the time was old enough to see them Dee Dee had left the band.

Still both he and the rest of the band were a huge influence on me from the first time I heard them in my early teens & I'm glad I got to see them a couple of years before they finally stopped touring.

They were incredibly lucky that when someone left they always had a family member who could step into the role.
