  2. Ashdown AAA-30-8 bass amp

In brand new condition, used for less than an hour since new.

Comes in original box with all packaging and paperwork. A great little combo for home use.

    £90 delivered in U.K.

The AAA-30 watt bass combo features a 1 x 8" speaker and delivers full-sized Ashdown bass tones at practice-appropriate volumes in a portable package.

A 3-band EQ makes it easy to dial in the exact sound you're looking for. There's also an 1/8" line input onboard so you can practice along to your favorite tunes, and a headphone output for silent late night practice. Top it off with heavy-duty buffalo Tolex and a vintage red grille, and you have a wonderfully classy practice amp.

Players also appreciate the AppTek connection featured on the AAA-EVO range, which using an IOS device lets you tap into virtual Ashdown amps and FX via the AmpKit app. Ashdown’s signature ABM Pre App (available via Agile Partners Amp Kit) and switch on the incredible features that you get from the formidable ABM range including Sub Harmonics, Tube Drive, Compression and comprehensive 7 Band EQ, thus transforming this little amp into a tone machine.

With a landmark birthday imminent, I decided to treat myself to new bass. Which would be an upgrade to the two Squier classic vibe bases I’ve been playing for a while. (A Mustang and a Jaguar).

I’ve been down many internet rabbit holes, thinking about options. But haven’t had much of a chance to try out any contenders, given the lack of shops that stock much more than the most popular models. Especially given I was trying to decided if I prefer short or medium scale.

So I decided to make the trip from Cardiff to the Guitar Show in Birmingham last Saturday, to actually touch some basses.

The plan was to check out some basses by Reverend, Sandberg, anything else that might be interesting and pay a visit to the Vintage Bass Room stand to try something a bit more classic (just to see).

I was impressed with basses by Reverend,Sandberg and a couple of lovely medium scale builds from  @Manton Customs.
But none of them made me smile like the vintage basses that @walshy and @AndyTravis where showing off at the Vintage Bass Room stand.

Turns out what I really needed in my life was a well played in 2EQ stingray.

It looks fantastic, but plays and sounds even better. So it came home with me.

I was planning to keep it in its case for over week to make the lead up to the big day exciting. I lasted 24 hours.

Spent about an hour with it yesterday at home, through my Ashdown studio 15 combo. Happily the bass plays and sounds just as good I remember at home.

I’m looking forward to getting into a rehearsal room in a couple of week to see how it sounds with drums and guitar.

Just need to get a proper band sorted so I can get gigging with it.

Here’s a picture at home, much better pics and more details can be found at Vintage Bass Rooms

Thanks @walshy for making it possible for to own such a great instrument, and being great to deal with.

Great to meet you mate and so glad you decided to take it home, even after the 4th visit and walk back to your car in the rain before you came back in and bought it. Judging by the smile on your face when you were playing it, it was definitely ‘the one’ for you. It was a very very good Ray and I reckon we could’ve sold another 10 of them if we had them.

Enjoy it and I’m glad it was only left in the case for 24 hours, about 23 1/2 hours longer than I would’ve waited 😂

  6. Phew what a weekend! Shattered but what a blast! Thanks to everyone who stopped by and played some pretty cool basses. That’s what it’s all about!

Great to finally put faces to usernames and man we have some killer players amongst us!

Huge thanks to the splendid @AndyTraviswho made the weekend an absolute blast. We will do this again, although I must brush up on my disco/funk chops before the next one.

    I see, interesting thanks!

What confuses me is.. what if PayPal does not side with them?

I mean, maybe they send you 500 for a bass via paypal. Get the bass. If paypal does not side with them they have just bought a bass?

How it works, lots on internet

    1.  Buyer pays by PayPal and arranges for courier/friend/whatever to collect.
    2.  Item is collected.
    3.  Buyer contacts PayPal to open a dispute, claiming they never received the item.

    4.  PayPal sides with the buyer, as the only proof of receipt they will accept is tracked proof of delivery.
    5.  The scammer now has your item and his money refunded.

  11. Well they offer full price and don't just buy it now. They then message saying as @ead says in his post -

If this item is still available send the invoice to email address is for example [email protected] and is signed Kate Wales ( never the same name to email in my experience.

If you then engage in a dialog they reply with the usual scam thing:

Thanks so much, I will be unable to physically pick up your payment because I work offshore, but after you have received it all, I will send a courier agent to do so. But as I've already said, I have no issue with the advertisement.
I will pay you once you are ready, though, and dispatch my courier agent once you have received your money, as PayPal is the only payment option I have available at the moment. Please remove the advertisement as soon as you can.
Please respond to me with the best time for collection, if you don't mind.

In my experience they never pay but others who have fallen for it lose the money and item I believe due to PayPal refunding the fraudster

I contacted them via the help and support bit.  Once I got through a couple of chat bot questions I was in touch with a real peep who was really good.

Yeah I have had mixed interactions. It normally happens on something you have just listed, well thats my findings anyway

  13. Thats the giveaway, they offer the full asking price and don't 'buy it now' so they get the chance to email/message  before paying. I get these fairly regular. I decline and send Reverb the link to chase up. They never do but I'll keep doing it with the hope someone actually does.

Not necessarily truly 'vintage' but what's everyone's thoughts on this tasty looking jazzer over at bass Bros:-

    https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1982-fender-jazz-bass/

Down as an '82 but the Fender serial lookup thingy comes up as a '78.  Not seen a bounded dot neck before and as someone who is a recent jazz convert and looking for a nice older bass this is ticking a few boxes!

that looks nice, I have a 78 in and it’s a beauty, they are heavy though.
