My P (flats) and J (rounds and yes I took a saw to SIRE head)

For me there is no such thing as ‘the one bass’. The P should be on flats, the J on rounds. Both keepers, and both different and worthy in own right.

I use Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax on my nitro guitars. Only apply one a year, and needs only a quick buff every few weeks (to take off any sweat marks or grime) brings back the shine.

Moog grandmother, just googled it. Wow that’s quite hardcore. Moog emulator on your iPad not good enough? 😉 I also don’t gig anymore. Trashed hearing. Hearing aids shut down at high volume/pressure of the bass and without them i struggle to hear the rest of the band. But it’s not all woe, with headphones, AmpliTube, loopers, 6 string guitar etc I am producing and hearing sounds that 20 years ago I could only have dreamed of! creativity and expression has never been more accessible, shame that most youngsters seem to be more interested in Instagram and image. 😢

And now I get to get synth gas also? 😂 TBH this thing is likely to be above my grade for some time, and even without bringing in samples etc the built in synths have great sounds. What’s amazing for me is that it’s taken me right back to when I first started playing music, 16 year’s old with two mates when parents out at work. All taking it in turns on guitar, bass and drums. No skill or knowledge, but just driven and amazed at producing ‘music’. It’s good to have a fresh start at something. 😃

I got fed up with the wait for left handers continually being pushed back. 😒 So, on a whim I bought a Teenage Engineering OP-Z groove box, and it’s awesome! Plan was to just create some beats and sequences to play along to. But I’ve had it a couple of weeks now and I’m lost in a world of techno dance groves. 😍 Weird for a 55 year old whose never been to a rave, and last time in a nightclub was during the ‘Hitman and her’ era? I guess I’ve always like Faithless though. 😀

Amazing humility saying “built and repaired pickups for 50 years” when he is the guy personally hand making the pickups for the amazing Ken Smith basses. Does he still make them? I know that there is no such thing as an original thought anymore, as everything has been done at some stage. But has anyone mixed flat and roundwound strings on the same guitar? I like many, have flats on one bass and roundwounds on another. Both sound and play very differently and I select to suit the song best. The same goes for fretless, and there are examples of people pulling a few frets on a bass to get a hybrid best (or worse!) of both worlds. So, is there sense to say (maybe on a 5 string) have EADG as roundwould for slappy stuff. But put have the 5s B on flat to have the choice to swap to thumpy stuff? Anyone tried this?

Finally finished, several weeks later than I expected. But very very happy with result. Plays and sounds great. 🙂 Rotosound flats, Kent Armstrong Hot Vintage P pup. Classic sounds, i could not be happier.

Some personal issues kept we away fro home for several weeks. But now im back for a bit and I’ve grabbed a couple of hours sanding and polishing. Practiced on the back and generally happy. Hope to do a better job in the front though as there are a few sanding scratches from 1800 sanding part. Don't think i soaked paper for long enough. But im happy enough. 🙂
