1. I always learn new material playing fingerstyle, but about 20% of the set I play with a pick because the sound suits the song better. Every once in a while I'll play a rehearsal either all fingerstyle or all pick (or both; one after the other), just to make sure I can play all of our stuff with both. There does seem to be a resurgence of pick players, certainly from other bands I've gigged alongside anyway. There did used to be a lot of 'anti-plectrum' sentiments within the bass community, or so I found. Choosing one style verbatim over another just limits your palette of sounds. Or so I reckon.
2. I remember someone on ebay was selling an 8 or 12 string bass that sounded similar in shape to yours. They had screwed a long metal tube into where the neck position strap button lives (several inches into the body), which extended the position of the button a few inches further towards the headstock. I believe this sorted the balance out nicely, even if it did look a bit weird. It's probably cheap and fast to implement as well, once you've got the parts together. I hope this helps.
3. I seem to have amassed a little collection of these things, certainly more than I need. I've decided to get rid of some, so I'm selling them at £6 a go including delivery to a mainland UK address. The tuner is red and looks like a fat guitar pick. The normal guitar model is silver, but is the same size and works in the same manner: SOS tuner The tuners are in brand new condition and will come with the supplied instruction leaflets. Suitable for 4, 5 or 6 string basses; as long as standard tuning is employed (ie Low B to high C). They're good for tuning in noisy environments as they're light based and silent. Unlike a drummer. Anyway, if you want one of these babies drop me a PM and we'll sort it out. Cheers.

Carlisle gigs?

Good call NJW.

Carlisle gigs?

I seem to remember a few weeks ago that someone started a post saying that they were after original bands to play at their venue in Carlisle. Can anyone remember this post, or who started it? Cheers.
6. How much did the spector set you back then? Looks pretty tasty!
7. wmsheep: "Robbie Robertson - Somewhere down the Lazy River". Isn't that "Somewhere Down the Crazy River"? Bassline by Guy Pratt (I believe), and it ain't bad. Sorry; I'm anally retentive! What about Echo Beach (by Martha & the Muffins)? I'm sure you could pull that off with a bloke singing, and everyone knows the song. The sax solo may translate well to guitar as well. Dire Straits, Michael Jackson etc...

Squier jazz

Opinion on them seems to be pretty good. I'm thinking of bagging one up myself shortly. I think there's some other threads on this forum dedicated to them actually.
9. Indeed that was what I was after. You're obviously more au fait with the leo quan website than I am! I thought it a little weird that I couldn't find the details on there.. Nice one BRX
10. Does anyone know the dimensions of the baseplate on a 5 string badass bridge? Cheers.
