1. Did a quick clip of the Speesy 5 driven, I like it recorded. I like it a lot, used my Sansamp VT with everything basically flat except the mids at about one o clock.

    The drive is at noon!

    Sounds huge:

Haven't mixed the rest of the track yet, but I'll get round to it.

    Some very odd replies here.

The main reason is simply that people's vocal ranges vary hugely. Think Paul Robeson and Robert Plant.

I'm a natural baritone. I have a rather unexciting mid-ranged voice. Loads of rock songs are pitched far higher than my voice will go, because they're designed to be sung by tenors like Robert Plant and Bruce Dickinson. Plenty of songs are pitched way lower than my voice will go, because they're designed to be sung by Barry White.

I suppose I could sing (a version of) Stairway To Heaven if I really felt like it, but never in the original key. That's not because I'm lazy (I'm not) or have an untrained voice (10 years' choral work in a bunch of choirs, thank you very much). It's more a matter of physiology and, y'know, yer actual physics and that.

    Very good post.

Seems v small to me, my ACGs are 45mm nut with 17mm spacing at the bridge and I thought they were quite compact! I can see the appeal though, very much :)
Just had another look, it is 17MM as opposed to 18MM.

I'd love to try something that's a little wider, at the nut.

the more I play it, the more I get used to it though.

That's really great, actually. I've always avoided even thinking about fivers since I'm sure the necks would just be too wide for me. Something like this I might actually be able to play! With standard 18mm string spacing it must be very tapered, though.

Honestly, I can see why people would think that it would be narrow.

For me it's fine though, I wanted it to be exactly the same as the four, with an extra string and that's what came out, going back and forth between my four string and my five string Speesy, it feels almost identical to play, just with an extra string.

The thought process between the two is completely different though.

    I'd forgotten it's a five string.

What's the string spacing at the bridge?
I'm not sure, I do have a certificate with the specs on. I'll find it.

I only specified the nut width.

Edit: Just measured it. It's 18MM at the Bridge.

It's very narrow for a fiver though isn't it?
Can't really do any slapiladapilies on it.

But, I have my Lakland for that.

I still think it's wider than Ibanez's string spacing though, but someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm liking what I'm seeing and hearing on here, the pointy bass is something special and that white 6 string is pretty close to what I'd get if I ordered another bass from them (but with flats on it).

I've resisted asking how long mine's going to be, I'm not a great waiter (in either sense of the word, no good at taking soup to tables in restaurants either) but I really get the feeling it will be worth it.

I've ordered three from these guys and it's always worth it when it gets to your door!

    What did you order?

Lucky you - so far they haven't delivered mine on a Saturday. Should have been here yesterday according to the tracking, now there's no scheduled date which I'm guessing means Monday at the earliest. Bah humbug.

    Anyway - enjoy yours!!!!

    I saw yours, absolutely beautiful.

I was toying with the idea of a six string Jake for a while, didn't go anywhere though!

  9. So this turned up at my door this morning, despite being stuck in France due to security. Which is understandable as they probably mistook it for a missile.

But seriously, I've waited a long six months for this to get to my door and it's finally here and it's a beast and was also named "Bass Of The Month" for July on the Public Peace website https://www.public-peace.de/bass-of-the-month/2230-public-peace-proudly-presents-the-bass-of-the-month-july-2017:

    Specs:

    Body: Alder
    Fingerboard: Ebony
    Set Neck construction
    40mm Nut Width
    Delano MC FE 5 (Splitcoil)
    U shaped neck profile

    Thoughts:

If people don't know, Mensinger is one of Adrian from Maruszczyk's other brands, which has been around a lot longer than Maruszcyk has, despite it being more popular, so I was dealing with him throughout the process, however if I'm going to be critical of one thing, he should change delivery company, as the only times I've ever had issues with couriers are with Fed Ex, which is what he uses. It was stuck in France and missed the cutoff point, however. A phone call made all the difference and the bass was here the next day, which was today.

So I've been playing this bass since I woke up this morning (it came at 8 this morning!) and I think Adrian's team have made another winner on their hands, I specced it out to be exactly like my first Speesy in terms of playability but with an extra string and it feels like another instrument, not like the same specced out one with an extra string.

I went with a Musicman styled humbucker over a P styled split coil, mainly because I fancied a change from P styled basses and because the P pickup the last one came with had a Rayish type grind to it, so I thought why not go all the way and put one in and it may have been the tone I was looking for when I heard the last one, which got me 75% of the way there, but not the whole hog. It's clear, articulate and tracks the low B really well, it would also sound great as a base for a fretless bass of somekind.

despite myself having concerns about a 32 scale B because of my only experience with a "tight" B string is from my Lakland Skyline but after a conversation with Adrian, I'm pleased to say his advice and his knowledge is excellent and put my fears to rest. It also sounds more compressed and more modern sounding, I can't wait to try it in a live mix with my band and on my bands EP which is going to be done potentially in October.

All in all, another wonderful bass, heavier than my last one but still completely manageable for me.

Just toying with ideas... so many choices.

(The top-left and bottom-right are charcoal frost. I don't think they're as blue as that in real life.)

    The Cream Jake is gorgeous!

  11.
That's so cool! :)

I play a Stingray in a ska band... I'd like to see the look on people's faces if one day I showed up with that pointy wonder
The more I look at it the more I like it.... It also makes me think of Michael Schenker's Flying V guitars. I used to dream of having one just like his with the white/black alternate pattern. Knowing that they could probably make me a bass version puts terrible thoughts in my mind. It's good that my music budget is locked for a few months due to the arrival of the new amplifier, otherwise... uf...
Funnily enough, Schenker was my first thought with it (I own a Schenker guitar funnily enough) didn't want to get into legal trouble though :P

Just had a quick play with it. Adrian wasn't lying when he said the B string would be tight enough, it's tight enough for standard tuning that it won't cause any issues.

Still not as tight as my Lakland though, but that is a 35 scale bass compared to the 32 of this one!

  12. Bass has literally turned up and it's been named Bass Of The Month on the Public Peace website, so I'm chuffed. https://www.public-peace.de/bass-of-the-month/2230-public-peace-proudly-presents-the-bass-of-the-month-july-2017

Didn't think Fed Ex delivered on a Saturday with International Economy, however!

  13. So I was meant to get my bass today, but because of French security, who wanted to X-Ray it, it didn't get to Stoke till the cut off time for their deliveries, so I'll get it Monday.

Maybe they got suspicious because it looks like a missile?

    Who knows!
