  1. Well it seems the Pod Express is not being pitched as for live use pedal by Line 6:

"You'll notice none of our in situ photography shows POD Express on a stage or with other pedals—it's always shown on a desktop or outside at the beach or campground."

Eric Klein, Chief Product Design Architect, Yamaha Guitar Group | Line 6 | Ampeg - Talkbass 8 Mar

I'd love to find more beach use for my bass playing, just can't see that happening any time soon.

Not to mention that every time someone says they've bought a B1-Four, @Al Krow has an orgasm.

Yeah - we've all gotta get our pumped up kicks somewhere 😅

It's going to be the MS-60B+ in 4 months time, I suspect.

Personally I'd go for the Irish bouzouki . Longer scale length sounds better to my ear . Both are beautiful sounding instruments . The only place I can think of to try them out would be a branch of Hobgoblin music . I don't know if you have one reasonably local .

Is there are a particular make/model of Irish bouzouki you'd recommend for someone starting out? It's something I've been thinking about getting too, so was interested when this thread popped up!

Sounds like it will be a winner! I'm not quite sure if those buttons are going to be really awkward to press with your foot though, but I guess it's no different to the setup on the B2 Four

Yeah the current MS-60B has an external midi footswitch connection to make live use easier, which the new MS-50B+ is lacking which is a shame assuming the same will be true of the MS-60B+. But fingers crossed that scrolling through the patches using the bottom two scroll pads should be doable with a bit of care.

Dunno if the USB-C port might allow connectivity to external footswitches or is going to be limited to patch editing duties?

  5. Zoom unveils the next generation of its cult classic MultiStomp pedal | Guitar World

"The MS-50G+ essentially puts the company’s latest G2 Four multi-effects pedal into a compact chassis."

@TRBboy - as you know, that's the question I've been wanting to find out i.e. is this going to be an upgraded chipset as compared to the decade old MS-60B? If that statement about the 50G+ is correct then it looks like a definite yes!

In which case colour me super excited - I usually wait to pick up my pedals used in case I decide to move them on at a later date 'cos it's a great way to try them out without too much value depreciation as we know, but if Zoom are going to be delivering the B2-Four in a compact chassis for around £130, I'll be making an exception for the MS-60B+ 😊

Several firmware updates later (version 1.09 now) and the SY-1000 is still a great unit, Bass models and amp sims are great.

I love being able to use separate strings for different tones.

one example is an A.I.C song Nutshell

One instrument model (INST1) is regular bass on B-E-A-D strings only.

another instrument, dynamic synth (INST2) sounding like a bass pitch harmony only on the D string, sounding between the 4th and 8th frets only.

another instrument, (strat guitar) with Pitch Harmony effects producing a bar-chord + 12string effect, for a 12 string steel guitar chord, from playing single notes on the G string only.

    Love this magic box !!

Even better that now I have it paired with the Boss GM-800.

Wow - that is some combo of SY-1000 & GM-800!! What context are you using them - mostly home/studio stuff or also for live use?

@Al Krow I just emailed zoom, and although there's no precise date, they're expecting the MS-60B Plus to drop June/July sometime. 👌

    Nice one!

Do you reckon you maybe could ask them if they're going to be using the same chipset as the MS-60B or will they be taking the opportunity to upgrade?  [Hint @ Zoom if you're listening: the MS-60B came out in Feb 2013 - and I remember buying my first one later that year!]

Sorry for the thread hijack...back to Line 6 & Yamaha 😊

  8. I think the detailed YT review that @TRBboy shared was super useful.

I felt that the most of the fx ranged from meh (e.g. the octave down was glitchy, the filter/synth nothing to write home about), passable (dirt) to decent (chorus / modulation) - be interested to hear what other folks reaction to that clip was or whether I'm being too harsh? Love the form factor though.

Personally I'm going to wait and see what bag of tricks Zoom have in store with the similarly compact form factor MS-60B Plus due out this year.

I haven't managed to watch it yet, but someone has done a longer video on YouTube

    That's a really useful review thanks @TRBboy - thanks!

Not quite adding enough and gaps in its armoury like lack of EQ control means that I'll be sticking with my trusty Zoom B1-4 for now.

  10. I like the look of this a lot and if the synth sounds are decent then this could be a very neat box! Omitted on the sound samples clip but hopefully someone will preview it shortly.

Another one for the watchlist for me!

  11. It's an interesting one though. How many of the current "unnecessarily" large cases does Andras have to get through (and frankly how much do they cost apiece, I'm guessing they can't be that much?)

Any reason why he can't offer a more compact housing once he's through the current stock of outsize cases? Markbass did pretty much exactly that with their "Supersynth".

  12. Sounds great on that Bass the World review.

    3.7 kg - that's super light!

Been very tempted to get a headless for a while but, despite being a huge Ibby fan, was never really sold on their EHB range. This at £700 on the other hand... will be getting added to my 2024 wish list!

The idea is to arpeggiate without need for MIDI or extra stuff.

I'm only aware of the Boss SY-1 and SY-200 having arpeggiator capability and, even then, it's not possible to layer the arp onto other fx 'within' the unit. Maybe the SY-1000 has this level of capability, but significantly beyond my budget.

How are you currently achieving arp functionality with your set up?

  14. I mean the Zoom B1-4 is such a ridiculously good value pedal anyway - so feature laden. And if you have a key effect that you love like the B3K/7K it does well - well go for it!

Worst case you pick one up for £50 used and sell it for £45 plus P&P... I've got one on my PB and another as a stand alone multi-fx tuner I can pop into my gig bag when I'm travelling light.

The last few on here secondhand have been £300-320 ... they are about...

Is it end of line? Well yes and no.

It's a digital effect... at some point it's going to be outdated, probably in more than 20 years time, but still.... will there will be some new shiny thing in the future, yes, will the "upgrade" be much more than what the Helix line is now? Maybe modelling of guitar amps maybe, but I question how much difference/improvement it would make for bass where the needs are slightly different...

Also the last update was only a few months ago, and the HX one has just come out, while it's clearly a way of spinning the line out (like a mid stage face lift on a car) it's not like they could not support something thats only just come out....

And, crucially, is there anything out, in a similar price bracket with the similar features that is better? not really.

(total curveball, if you wanted the volume/wah the full size Helix secondhand loose more value than the stomp, and in some ways for big digital multifx it has more competition than the stomp)

Arguably the GT1000 Core is comparable / better and in a similar price bracket?

@TRBboy you got me interested in the Sonicake! Looking at some of the online reviews it seems to suffer from significant (10ms) latency as a key drawback, which will layer with any latency you have in the rest of your signal chain. Can add up and become noticeable.

  16. The B7K sim on the B1-4 is pretty good, particularly with a bit of bass EQ boost which you can add pretty easily, to counter low-end scoop inherent in the sim.

I've got my eye on the (hopefully!) soon to be released MS-60B Plus, particularly if it has an upgraded chip set but no confirmation that's going to be the case yet.

The fact that the FI responds to MIDI means you can use any other bit of sequencer/arp hardware to trigger it. Korg make some cheap sequencers.

This clip is a Precision bass but I’ve had plenty of success using Jazz basses with it in the past.

Also, as there’s still more than half the space left in the new pedal there are some things we’re developing that will take this even further. (Technically there are 4 separate apps and only two are in use with the current implementation.)

Good point re midi and arp sequencers.

"More than half the space left" = the V4 has more than double the memory capacity of the V3? Nice one!

The ACCURACY priority setting does get rid of the pitch blip entirely.

If we select ACCURACY priority, how much latency in terms of ms should we be expecting?

My sincere apologies, I clearly didn’t read that properly! (Too much testing and not enough sleep.)

You've done an amazing job, Peter. No one'd going to deny that!
