  1. I bought a lovely Retrovibe 'tribute to a well known brand' from Paul at the weekend. Easy transaction followed by a Basschat classic supermarket carpark exchange!

Really nice guy to talk to and a lovely bass to boot. Exactly what buying & selling via the forum should be like 👍

  2. Finished a pub gig with a heavy rock type band - landlord has rung the bell and is trying to get people to drink up. It's at that moment a drunk older couple asked (and asked, and asked with increasing mouth foam) to hear My Way, as if that's likely. Bearing in mind that we've switched everything off and started taking stuff out to the van etc. it's a weary but firm 'no' from whoever happens to be their focus at that moment. They persist however until another punter wanders up and tells them to p*ss off, to which they don't take kindly, and before you know it proper fisticuffs are going down, ending with the landlord throwing all three of them out and barring them. We just loaded up fast, got paid and got out of there... still got asked to go back (but didn't)!

  3. It's funny really, I got hold of those cabs and that head just as I (re)started gigging after a very long layoff, and although I've tried quite a few different things over the subsequent years on the quest for 'something', I have always returned to them as they are just right for what I need... They make a sound I like, always have enough heft and are manageable enough to cart around to gigs and practices etc.

I can't think of anything I'd replace my TE head with either, and it does fit nicely on top of the cabs - it might be 2cm wider than an Ashdown MAG, but it doesn't look wrong at all.

  4. I just bought a MIJ reissue P-bass from Bassbros. Outstanding and responsive customer service from Will, who answered my questions, provided the extra pictures I asked for and accommodated my shipping request... and when it arrived, nicely set up, the packaging was bombproof (or at least courierproof)!

It was all very confidence inspiring and I am one happy bunny.

  5. Late to the party I know, but I've also experienced the effect loop tarnishing issue on both TE and Laney amps, presumably because they are unused for years by some owners (including me). But posting because I'm sure I've also read that the pre-shape and graphic in/out switches on some models of TE amp could be problematic, and that replacing them had been known to resolve some intermittent issues... Could be useful info for someone.

Hipshot spec details say USA ultralites are able to be reversed whereas the licensed version can't. I had an inline 4 US ultralites..reversed one & stuck the set on a Ray. I don't know if the licensed version have the allen screw at the end of the worm drive shaft as per pic..

I've got a set of the licensed version and they don't have that allen screw. Nice tuners and made a small but positive difference to balance of the bass I switched them onto compared to the no-brand ones that were there before.
