The porn section is one of those I hardly ever check out.... because there is some real sh*t porn out there. How does replacing a pickguard on a stock bass make it porn? I'm just as "grumpy old man" with the build diary section too, where screwing a few components together somehow constitutes a build. <_<

I can admire/appreciate it when someone creates something out of some planks of wood, perhaps to a lesser degree when someone screws together some parts (I'm as guilty as the next guy on this count), but the whole 'My Shuker/ACG build' thing rubs me the wrong way.

I have nothing against these luthiers, they do fine work, but surely anyone with a few bob to spare can get someone to build something for them, but the poster isn't the one getting splinters.

  2. Just an observation, any chance the porn section could revert back to how it used to be? You know, individual member posts of new acquisitions, collections etc. rather than these TalkBass-esque threads where everyone just chucks their collections in a general bucket? Next thing we'll be copying and starting Rickenbacker/Spector/Thunderbird clubs and everyone will start having their own number.

Sure I like looking at basses, but maybe I'm just a bit old school, to be honest I liked it more when Wayne posted photos of his checkered Frankenstein models or when Gary would just throw up photos of his collection of 1,700+ Spectors and everyone just went 'Wooooooo'.

    Cheers

  3. They're great basses, lightweight with fantastic tone and you got a decent deal. I know they're not everyones cup of tea. Ignore all the nonsense about neck diving etc. As I've posted previously, I'm a chubby guy in my 40s and the TB makes me feel like a I'm a skinny 20 year old. They're like magic.

  4. I wouldn't think it would be too much of a problem, but you'd need to drill the body. If you're of a mind, get yourself one of the Hipshot bridges instead of a Gibson/copy, they're way superior and you only need to make two holes as opposed to three. You'll have full control over intonation and individual string height. Woop.

  5. We're just having a bit of a clearout...got a pair of BT Hub Phones (model 1010), the cradles and chargers of anyone wants them. Should all fit into a jiffy bag or collection welcome (Crowthorne, Berkshire).

  6. Can anyone here shed some light on the limited run Gibson Thunderbird Gothic bass? I found a few images online...effectively a Thunderbird in a black finish, black hardware and what looks like a darker than normal (stained?) fingerboard. The scratchplate has the eagle motif, but it's black. It was listed on Musicians Friend in the US at one stage. Doesn't seem to be anything else about this bass online. Nothing on eBay.

    Anyone got one?

    Cheers

  7. While ago I found this and bookmarked it. I've never tried it though!

  8. I'd like to move my Bongo along.

Desert Gold finish, very small ding at the end of the headstock, otherwise excellent condition. Dunlop straplocks, original hard case. I put a new set of EB Slinkys on about five weeks ago and they've had about five minutes use. Plays like a dream.

OK, first off, trades. I'd like a Gibson Thunderbird, but it has to be black and I would need cash to make up any difference. I'm indifferent about age/condition/colour of hardware etc.

Outright sale I'd be looking at offers north of £900.00 and something to cover shipping. Collection is fine too (I'm near Reading, Berkshire).

Edit: There's some images up lower in this thread.

    Cheers

Sorry, should've posted somewhere else! Nancy's fascination with my non-screen name has just come to my attention, and I made a comment. All of it silliness, pardon my out-of-place remark... please carry on!

  10. I'm not shitting you here, but I think that might have been mine a long long time ago.

Myself (and a few guys who played in bands locally) found this place up in Chalk Farm that used to sell on ex-hire and ex-pro gear. Loads of Peavey stuff I recall. Anyhow, I picked up an Orange head from them (there was an additional Orange covered piece at the back of the amp that had 'Property of Davey Johnstone' written in thick black marker. (Given the providence of some of the other gear on sale, there's a reasonable to good chance it was Elton John's guitarist.)

Anyhow, me and a mate got it home, on foot, by tube, train and bus and it was DOA; I gave it to my dad (who worked for the MoD in Chobham) and he got one of the techs to look at it and it arrived home working just lovely. It worked for about six months...I did two or three little gigs with it and it caught fire at a jam at someone's house (I can actually remember we were busking through the remix version of Japan's 'Adolescent Sex' when smoke started coming out of it). We yanked the power chord and threw tea/coffee/coke over it to put it out, before it set the house on fire.

It sat in my dads shed for a while and then I saw an advert for a store in Denmark Street saying they were buying all things Orange, so off it went. I guess this would have been early 80s.
