  1. I bought various bass guitars and a double bass because as a lefty, good stuff doesn't come up often so.....you know how that goes. I have gigged most of them. At one point I was up to 8 I think. I have now pretty much decided that I'm done with gigging, my last recording project is complete (and I'm due to go for a get together to her the finished product this weekend) which I used three different basses on and I don't think there will be another one any time soon. I'm selling (and have sold four so far) everything except my go-to Hot Rod Precision, my Roland Cube 30, LM3 and Barefaced Compact (just in case....lol). This part of my life is pretty much done: It's been a great 12-15 years but things change, and I'm moving on to other things so my small "collection" is surplus to requirements. BTW I've had no luck selling on here, but everything I've sold has gone for the same if not more on a popular auction site. YMMV.

  2. Yamaha Stagepas 400i, as new with padded covers, Gorilla stands and heavy duty speaker leads. No dents, cracks or scratches. Only ever used for vox, acoustic guitar and occasionally harmonica. Never abused, always transported and stored in padded covers. Stands as new with no damage to clamps or knobs, not the usual rubbish. No missing or broken knobs on the mixer, all works as it should. The original (weedy!) speaker leads are present too.  Like all my gear, this has been well looked after.

Collection from Brighton area, you are welcome to test/try it on collection, or delivery/meet up within a reasonable distance for fuel costs. Any questions call me (Phil) 07855 453897. Thanks for looking.

    SOLD......Elsewhere.

  3. Big Red is pretty much spot on. There is indeed an up front royalty payment system for small runs of CD's: It's on the PRS website under licences and it's the LM (limited manufacture) licence that I think you need. Should be MCPS only. It's fairly self explanatory. Another thing to consider is that  if any of the music is copyright and might get played on the radio (for promotional reasons etc.), you can have tags embedded in the tracks so the radio play royalties get sent to the right place. All the decent replicators/duplicators can do this. Most small radio stations require the tags to be embedded if you want them to play your CD as they don't want to faff about sorting out royalties for what they play.

  4. So......Yet another thread wanders completely off the point and becomes a pointless argument, like two bald men fighting over a comb, and probably causing the OP to lose the will to live trawling through the last two pages trying to find out if there is actually any useful information to be found in them. The short answer is "No". Well done chaps.

FWIW, and YMMV, we ran our band (bass, drums, guitar/vox and harmonica)very successfully for many years in pubs and small venues with a pair of passive 12" ElectroVoice, a Yamaha EMX512SC (light as a feather, enough effects for us) and backline. No monitors, and as Happy Jack said we could all hear one another very well at the volumes needed for those types of small spaces. If you can't, you are too loud anyway in my humble opinion. We figured that we were there to entertain, not to pin the punters to the back wall. Set up in 25mins, tear down the same, utterly reliable and easy to transport. And we also used to have the speakers behind us on occasions when space demanded: while we had to be careful about checking frequencies etc. and mic placement we managed it OK on many occasions. That was just us: other folks do it different.

  5. Does anyone have a transcription of the bass part for "Nick Of Time" by Bonnie Raitt?

I've been asked to do it and I'm really struggling with the riff at the intro... I can't find anything in the usual places!

The verse part is fine but my ear is not good enough to pick out the intro.

    Thanks all.

My spare bass which as I have no plans to resume gigging is surplus to requirements, and even when I was gigging and took it as a spare it was never required (my Hot Rod Precision has never let me down...) so virtually unplayed since I bought it apart from the occasional noodle to make sure it still works!

Plays as it should, everything works, fitted with virtually new Roto Monel Flatwounds.

A couple of minor marks which I've tried to show in the photos.

Happy to deliver locally, or you're welcome to visit and try it for yourself,  or meet half way up to a reasonable distance. No case.

£995 or a very near offer.

  7. I still use my 20 year old Nissan Almera. Barefaced Compact, two 12" PA speakers and stands, PA desk, LM3 and all the cables plus my bass fit perfectly. Along with my wife in the front seat. According to We Buy Any Old Donkey it's worth the princely sum of £124, so no one is going to steal it and I don't care if I come back and find another ding in it either. MOT'd with no advisories last November, so that's me for another year!

This is something I’ve always tried to do. But then people start turning up gradually throughout the evening. 🤦‍♂️

Lucky you - I find that when we play, people start leaving gradually throughout the evening.......I'll get my coat.

Bang on. Nobody is forcing anyone to participate, and IMHO @stewblack is quite right -- it encapsulates the evolution of popular music. Always an interesting topic.

I never got on with Leb personally, I was definitely more of a Rocky Black man. I recall some absolutely banzai grass doing the rounds in our town for a few months too.

....and a "friend of mine" had some absolutely monster squidgy black that he referred to as Nepalese Temple Balls - I'm not sure if I remember that correctly though.....😎.

I always think of Deep Purple as essentially a blues band, but I don't mind how you call it. I've got just the thirteen albums  plus some LP picture discs I bought at Beano's  in Croydon many years ago. A bit sad, but hey, it's my life.....

    Definitely not a good idea.

Do you know what a BF cab looks like inside? There is a complicated bracing system which maintains the strength of the cab. BF cabs are built in a way that every side supports the other. Cut a chunk out of it and you could upset that bracing and reduce the rigidity and strength of the cab, plus reducing the internal volume might change its sound.

Sounds like it would be an Elf and Safety issue........

    I'll get my coat.

  11. Yeah, but I've had all types of knobs on all types of basses.

My American P-Bass has push-on knobs, but my old Squier P-Bass special had chrome knurled knobs with grub screws. Round holes in the knobs not D shaped, so they fit on round shafts or shafts with flats. A change of knob would not be out of the way , if it gets you where you want to be.....
