  1. Why do I always leave it so late?

Saunter through Cézanne's Avenue at Chantilly to a twinkling soundtrack of swirly, insistent guitar chords, subtle keys and unobtrusive beats.

Played on a cigar box guitar (open G tuning) with a dash of flanger, a Strat copy using Nashville tuning with a touch of echo and a violin bass. Ableton provided MT Drums and all the virtual keys. Recorded, as ever, with Wavepad and Audacity.

  2. In like Flynn (with a limp).

The old gang reconvene at the pub one more time to enjoy a few drinks in the sun and reminisce about the days when they had everything going for them and all the time in the world to loon around.

Lo-tech talk: Unbranded Strat, Daphon Wah Wah pedal, Vivlex Delay pedal, Westfield bass, Roland Cube amp, Apogee Mic+ and MT drums. Recorded with Wavepad, Audacity and Ableton.

Fancy some lyrics to go with this Fisher-Price Fun Lovin' Criminals funk? Here they are. Won't mean owt to you lot but all the names included in the song are various drinking acquaintances of mine through the 80s, 90s and 00s, although I'm not sure they were all ever in the same pub at the same time!

    Spoiler

Getting back together for the first time in years

With the promise of sunshine and a couple of beers

It's been a long while since we've been in touch

But meeting up again will be such a rush

Life got in the way and the old gang split

It's part of getting older but I've got to admit

    I've missed these fellas

Grab some tables out front, set up a tab

Big Tom sorted that out with his gift of the gab

Binksy's telling jokes that we've all heard before

But the guy is just so funny and he tells us some more

Fat Hammer's giggling as he rolls a smoke

His health is not so great now he's had a stroke

    We're pretty worried about him

We used to drink all day

Not a care in the world

    Having fun, come what may

But all good things come to an end

Here's my man Chris Nucks, Waggy and Grant

There's little Tom there with his hair transplant

Johnny Max is lining up the Apple Sourz

The ones we used to down in the small hours

Clubbing every Saturday, boozing to be done

Football in the morning, in the pub again by one

    More stamina than common sense

Matt's on the lager, the beer is downed

“Mine's an IPA” as he buys another round

Dazza's getting chippy just a pint or two in

He's been full of anger ever since his split with Lynn

We talk a load of nonsense as we shoot the breeze

Reminiscing of the days when we did as we pleased

Those summers were long and carefree

We used to drink all day

Not a care in the world

    Having fun, come what may

And we'll raise a glass to absent friends

    Hanging loose, sipping juice

    Hanging loose, sipping hooch

    Hanging loose, sipping juice

    Hanging loose, sipping hooch

What would be the first words You would say if, returning from work to home, You would found Your bass pickups, scrached by Your pet - cat, when doing nail sharpening procedure? I would scream "goddamned"!

I would firstly challenge Kendo Nagasaki to a game of Ker-Plunk, initiate peace talks between the warring factions in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave and then take a nice, relaxing monobath with several close acquaintances. Sorted. Respect due 👍

And another Turkish list. The most important instrument in Turkey is the baglama, or saz

You must have heard of contemporary psych-rockers Baba Zula? A fantastic sound. Have been lucky enough to have seen them three times. Improvisational, interactive (they very often go for a wander through the audience) and a new album coming soon.

I'd strongly recommend the fantastic documentary "Saz, The key of Trust" where the incredibly talented Petra Nachtmanova takes a road trip across the Balkans and Asia Minor to find the roots of the baglama. The full documentary is up on YouTube and for me it's the best musical documentary I've ever seen.

    Seconded 👍

Hopefully that's whetted your appetite for this instrument.

You are preaching to the converted. Serious GAS, I've got SIX of the things!

Ah , just thought on with this , maybe should have only had 2 votes this time .
for the entrants , discounting your own entry,  means you are still voting for half the field 😁.

It will all come out in the wash I’m sure 😁

Hard enough to narrow it down to three, let alone two!

  6. I'm in.

A lazy lollop through Woolworth's looking for hippy wigs. Sit back, have a bit of what you fancy, close your eyes and find your neutral space.

Westfield P-bass, Indian drums and percussion from Looperman, Strats from Westfield and Harley Benton both tuned to CGCGCC for a bit of a drone effect (Westfield has Nashville strings on). Backwards guitar (trippy, maaaaan). Recorded using Wavepad and Audacity.

  7. Here's some absolute cobblers from yours truly

Robot holds kids to ransom and maniac father tries to pay the droid off with an unsuitable offering then threatens violence to the droid who just wants a bit of TLC, or something like that. Warning! Puntastic Chili Peppers outro lyric!

Lyrics hidden below. On the track they're a bit garbled (good, I hear you scream) but I only had time for one take.

    Spoiler

I got bats in my attic

I got robots in my pantry

With a strange looking woman who looks just like Lillie Langtry

    Curious

Now, this funny looking robot has got hold of both my kids

And he looks like he's been made out of a pair of dustbin lids

    Strange days

(Robot vox) I'm a robot you can trust

    But I'm covered in rust

Now, my guess is that he wants a ransom for the kids held hostage

So I'll offer him a tenner, some Maltesers and an ostrich

    It's a good deal

If he turns it down I'll kick him in his CPU

Ram his diodes up his hardware, then go make a lovely brew

    Nescafe!

(Robot vox) I'm a robot you can trust

    But I'm covered in rust

    (Robot) Don't wanna be naughty

    I'll be good...if you give me WD40!

    In that case...

Give him a spray, give him a spray, give him a spray now

Give him a spray, give him a spray, give him a spray now

Give him a spray, give him a spray, give him a spray now

Give him a spray, now etc etc.

Used my homemade cigar box baritone ukulele through a Roland Cube amp with a Vivlex delay pedal, P-bass copy, Ableton for a smidge of keyboard sounds and MT Drums. Recorded using Wavepad and Audacity. Vocals recorded with an Apogee Mic+.
