The best I have been able to do is to look up BassWorld on the WayBack Machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20250000000000*/http://www.bassworld.co.uk/pn/index.php - it'd be possible to browse the snapshots to see who was logged on at the time. There's a good few names I recognise as  on BassChat too. The snapshots don't go back to '98 though.

This one is a good snapshot, lots of people logged on and lots of posts showing. Anyone see themselves logged in? I'm on there!

  3. Ahhh yes indeed good sir! We all scurried over from the sinking ship that was BassWorld.co.uk!

I remember logging on to BassWorld and I think I still had dial-up internet to begin with!

BassWorld appeared around 1998 and it was a lot quieter than BassChat, it’s great to see that many of the very early numbers of ‘worlders are still here!! And great to see the community has flourished and grown. Though it is saddening that we’ve lost some wonderful bassists on the way, their memory lives on.

The 5 string is the 108mm long version (magnet is 77.5mm wide) and the 6 string is 117mm with a longer 87.6mm magnet, info I got from Alex at EMG. I suspect, as I didn't ask, that these are actually P2 and P4 sizes (108/117x32mm).

This means that they won't fit in my Ibanez SR or Cort A6 6 strings with the 108x34mm MK1 pickups without routing. The later BH2s in my BTB846 are the same size. Looks like I need to get out the router for at least the SR so that'll get DCXs or maybe TWXs.

When I email back, I'll also ask if this new PU internal structure will also be available in the 35/40/45 sizes too - it would make no commercial sense if they weren't, assuming they fit.

Thank you, I guess that was my next question as to whether or not the EMG shells were P or BC series sizing. Nordstrand for example offer EMG and Bart BC sizing (mostly, I didn’t look at the entire range) which could be a problematic swap out if the EMG’s are P series sizes instead.

I had no idea it is viewed that I offer so little to the bass world. I am the 'daytime tv' of the low end, the Diet Coke, the low-fat spread, the slimmer-world shake, the 'Jaco only needed', the Turra to the Ostro.

Yep, and it's often the case with everything as these items seem to be reviewed by small people for that reason, to make you think they are bigger than expected. 😉

I'm 6'3" and sadly far from the bean-pole I used to me as a kid. The pedal in that case will look tiny.

  7. From the same family, I can confirm that the 802 also sounds tremendous with the Barefaced cabinets. So, I knew the minute I started reading your post it was going to have a happy outcome. Congrats!

The only odd thing I found recently was that the rubber feet on my 802 actually got stuck to the BT3's finish lol.. something reacted and they became "temporarily inseparable" - is that an oxymoron? ha ha! (My other amps have been fine).

Whilst true, the harmonics/timbre of the hand position are relative to the string scale, which is compensated for by the angled pickups.

One thing to note about the previous Dingwall models (Combustion/NG/D-Roc), is that the pickups inside the case are split coils, so the 'playing line' is additionally compensated for:

I loved having those three pickups on my (sadly gone) AB1 to play across as @SumOne says. I'd have gone one step further and had all three pickups made as a giant ramp, with a radiused top to suit the neck.  Sheldon and I chatted about radiused pickup shells way back, but life got in the way of making that a reality.

I'll be comparing the two and sharing my thoughts in time along with a full review. I'm also planning another review of the QC as there's lots to include since the last ones.

I am mega pleased to see that the next OS update of the Quad Cortex is finally going to include both the amazing Cory Wong X and Parallax X plug-in, following today's announcement. I use the Cory Wong X daily and I've wanted the compressor and SSL desk model in the QC for..well, ever!

    CorOS 3.2.0

Meanwhile, {snip}, we were able to finalize the port of Archetype: Cory Wong X to Quad Cortex, which will be included in CorOS 3.2.0 alongside Parallax X and Archetype: Nolly X. Furthermore, the Metronome has been added.

Next I'm looking forward to seeing the Archetype: Petrucci X ported in too, my other daily driver for teaching, writing and recording.

@Dood I'm keen to understand if the rumors about not being able to get a "driven" sound out of the SVT amp model is true

I'll keep an eye on this thread and add it to my To Do list.

Very excited to hear your thoughts.

I'm pretty confident ill be switching from the QC to the anagram, mostly for the smaller footprint.

It'd be interesting to hear how you find the capture process if you do delve in. I'm really not a fan of DG drives and was pretty underwhelmed at how few captures are available on tone3000. I’ve been spoilt by the Cortex Cloud and almost always being able to find captures of the thing I want or at least something very similar.

I've had Steve Atkinson's Neural Amp Modeller in my studio since it's early versions and it has been pretty impressive, though I've not captured any of my gear using the trainer yet! With the QC on the desk, it has just been easier to grab that. I'm still waiting to review ToneX too, so I must reconnect with my contact at IK soon. N.A.M's capture process requires more steps obviously as QC has everything in one box. I'm pretty sure that from a software point of view, Anagram could be capable of hosting the capture process as well as the Neural Amp Modeller, time will tell as more features are rolled out.

As much as it would be nice to play along and say its because they know me, its for ma job; I'm going to give Anagram a thorough review and video for y'all!

It’s going to be interesting to see how it compares sat next to the QC.

One of the many quirks of the human brain is that the emotion of moral outrage stimulates dopamine production, which , in very basic terms, rewards the person experiencing that emotion by making them feel nice, even at the same time that they are angry.

The tabloids cottoned on to this many years ago and social media is equally  aware. Stoking outrage is a proven way to generate interest from people who at some level know it's going to give them that dopamine hit.

Of course it's also absolutely natural to feel those emotions when somebody clearly trangresses the normal moral and ethical boundaries, but whenever you get a huge mass public outpouring of outrage it's always worth considering whether the original transgression really warrants that extensive reaction (of course, sometimes as in the case of say, terrorist attrocities it clearly does)  or whether , essentially, people are just enjoying the dopmine high at this point.

And whether those continuing to stoke said outrage, in this case more than a month after the transgressions came to light, really care, or are they just cynically jumping on the bandwagon for guaranteed clicks and likes and, in some cases, financial rewards.

Back on topic, but firmly in the psychology frame of mind still, yes what a brilliant post. Good quality, informative, helpful and honest YouTube content doesn’t reach anywhere near as much as controversy, click-bait, desperate validation and the look-at-me folk’s uploads.

What is depressing is the amount of people who are sucked in* by this fakery. Isn’t it obvious when guitarists aren’t playing, when A.I text has been used in a review? I find it extraordinary that whilst A.I for example is still improving, folk can’t tell the picture of the girl they are ogling over with thousands of heart-likes  isn’t real.

*or willing to accept it and not call it out maybe?

{edit} Whilst on the subject of depressing, and I’m on a roll..

YouTube OF-bait dressed up as quality content gets way more traction than those putting in hours of work and effort to produce actual, well thought out and produced content.

It pays to lie about your intentions, to fake and put aside integrity for likes 🤑💰.

Although in my ramblings, I’m mistaken i was referring to Wall-E not Up 😂

Those who have been at the receiving end of a narcissist relationship (work/personal or otherwise) will know these tactics all too well and, once you’ve experienced it, for the worse, it will certainly incite a mental health trigger response.
The trick after the fact is to use it to your advantage as the internal BS meter goes Chernobyl when you smell it.

The “In Politics” and “Common Tactics” are very good examples of tactics used in ‘coercive control’ too, as does, for example, withholding rightful funds to pay for basic needs items etc etc

I've read attempts at explanations, with examples, so it must be me, but I still don't really understand what 'gaslighting' is. One of the (many...) words and phrases in modern parlance that I look up, but fail to assimilate (others would be, for example 'woke', 'ghosting' or 'cheugy'; there are others...). English seems to be becoming a foreign language; maybe I should change my reading material. :$

It seems I have succumbed to the laziness that A.I models afford the casual user, where asking it to reply for me is preferable over typing on a very small screen whilst I doom scroll my morning away. I’m feeling a lot like those characters in the film UP, strapped to mobility chairs, staring at screens.

Anywho, I asked to explain what Gaslighting is, where the phrase came from and some examples of gaslighting in the real world.

All of which I could have typed out myself rather than explaining my laziness…

    ## Meaning of Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which one person seeks to make another doubt their own perceptions, memories, or sanity. The gaslighter achieves this by persistently denying facts, twisting reality, or dismissing the victim’s feelings and experiences, often leading the victim to become confused, anxious, and dependent on the abuser’s version of reality[1][14][16].

    ## Origins of the Term

The term "gaslighting" originates from the 1938 British play *Gas Light* by Patrick Hamilton, later adapted into films in 1940 (UK) and 1944 (US)[1][2][12]. In these stories, a husband manipulates his wife by secretly dimming the gas lights in their home and then denying any change when she notices, insisting she is imagining things. His goal is to make her doubt her sanity so he can control her and steal from her[1][2][14]. The term entered psychological and popular discourse decades later, especially from the mid-2010s onward[1][12].

    ## Practical Examples of Gaslighting

Gaslighting can occur in various contexts, including romantic relationships, workplaces, friendships, and even politics. Here are some real-world examples:

    **1. In Romantic Relationships**
    - A partner cheats but insists, “You’re imagining things. I’d never do that,” when confronted with evidence[5][13][15].
    - Repeatedly telling someone, “You’re too sensitive” or “You’re overreacting,” to invalidate their feelings[5][11][15].
    - Denying abusive events occurred: “That never happened. You’re making it up”[13][15].

    **2. At Work**
    - A manager claims not to have received a report that was delivered, causing the employee to question their memory[6][13].
    - A colleague borrows items and denies it, making you wonder if you misplaced them[6].
    - Downplaying your achievements or concerns, e.g., “You’re just stressed. Not everyone can handle new responsibilities,” to undermine confidence[6][13].

    **3. In Friendships**
    - A friend moves your belongings and then insists you’re forgetful or careless when you notice[9][15].
    - They deny saying hurtful things, insisting, “You must have misunderstood me,” even when you recall the conversation clearly[15].

    **4. In Politics**
    - Politicians denying well-documented events or shifting blame for failures, causing the public to question verified facts[7].
    - Spreading misinformation and attacking critics’ credibility to erode public trust in objective reality[7].

    **5. Common Tactics**
    - Withholding information or pretending not to understand the reason for a conversation to avoid accountability[11].
    - Projecting their own negative behaviors onto the victim, such as accusing them of lying or cheating when the gaslighter is actually the one doing so[15].
    - Isolating victims from friends or family to increase dependence on the gaslighter’s version of reality[14].

My general old-person take on a lot of contemporary online "influencer" stuff is the complete lack of boundaries between authenticity and just selling stuff. Of course, this has always happened, but from talking to younger people (e.g. my kids) I think that there's no longer even a pretence that there is a line between somebody doing or telling you something that's real versus them making money.

At the risk of skating dangerously close to politics, the mainstream media news outlets and governments, it's not as if anyone is setting an example there either. They don't even care if they straight up lie. This behaviour is so ingrained it has become the norm. :(

Social media is a toxic dump overwhelmed with the likes of the Turras, the thirst traps, the desperate for validation, the click-baiters, those who sell their pound of flesh under the pretence their channel is about quality content.. More and more, I really don't feel I have a place here.

Speaking of which, for some reason the algorithm served up some "relationship mentoring" (pffft) videos the other day and the subjects were almost gleeful in cheating on their partners. WTaF? - Cheating, fakery, lying, lacking integrity.. Good for the soul apparently? Good for the stats..

    Stop the world...
