I had a fretless one, made in Korea, nice bass actually. Very nice to play, nicely put together, no complaints at all.

However, it does depend on how much money you're talking about. Mine was about a ton and a half if I remember right.

Having taken said bass off Russ’s hands I second his opinion. Decent and perfectly usable for that kind of cash.

  2. Very sorry to hear your news, Ray.

Echoing the above as well re:BC being the ‘best’ place to sell. The massively reduced number of time wasters here is reason enough for you on its own, I’d say.

  3. I get this. My number 1 bass (a Japanese Fotoflame Precision) was my go to since I bought it in 1994. It’s everything bass should sound like to me. All other basses I bought across 25 years - from Ricks to Jazz basses and even other P basses - came and went as they don’t sound like that bass.

I’ve now been in a two piece bass and drums band now for 4 years or so, and it’s only since doing it, and massively different stuff with my bass tones, that I’m happy (and really, really enjoying) chopping and changing between a bunch of basses. I’m fairly certain though that if I found myself back only  in a ‘normal’ band setup I’d revert to just the Fotoflame P, and be a good few quid better off.

Brewdog, because of the owner's attitude. Which is a bit of a shame because the beer's decent.

Wetherspoons, because of Timbo's treatment of his staff during the pandemic and because of his support for the B-word.

Yep, these two are a fair way up my list too.

I have just acquired a short scale 'Ashdown Capri' in pink....not something I thought I would ever do (the pink I mean), but I 'ummed' and 'arred' over a Squier Rascal and then missed it.  The Capri has a great neck, no fret-sprout, good soldering, full sized pots....and a lousy pickup 😕

Anyhoo....the E string is much quieter than the AD & G.  I reckon it is a degaussed magnet issue.  I'm so tired of it I'm actually going to replace the pup with a toaster-style 12K 'bucker from Dave Konig at Retrovibe (lovely bloke, I have one of his 'Stinger' pre-amps; an homage to the pre EB Music Man pre-amp and it's a stellar performer in my GB44).

SO, just a heads up and to ask if anyone else has had this issue ?  I'm currently running pyramid-648's on it, but that low-volume E is a real PITA.  (yes I have tried raising the pickup under the E...it helped a little, but not sufficiently to bring it into line with the other 3)

Presumably the same pickup. I stopped being as interested in them at that point.

  6. Rollng the tone back on the P pickup (and for my taste having soloed it as well on your Yammy) either will get you in the ballpark just fine I’d say.

Conscious you’ve already ‘downsized’ from an upright to electric. If you can, try a Mustang and see what you think. I love them (and shorties generally) personally, but they’re maybe not for everyone.

I had a couple of snide comments at gigs about it being a Squier but I never let it bother me.

I’m often told I don’t look it but I’m a very, very placid chap, but any snide comments about gear from anyone to anyone at any time grinds my gears sufficiently that I do let it bother me and become something of a mouthy runt. I may or may not have deliberately misspelled that…

Annoyed with myself to this day that I didn’t check out one of the Freeman sigs when they were released.

    That’s exactly it.

Well done and thanks to mods and (pretty much🤣) everyone who posts!

  9. Nice work. They’re a heap of fun to play. Mine doesn’t get too much use, but I do love playing it when I get round to plugging it in. Given the weight and dimensions it’s also helpful for my lad to knock about on.

Re: strings, Shortscale GHS Precision flats also fit just fine on for the Longhorn, it’s what I have on mine. Outside of those and the LaBella strings though I’m not sure what else works.
