  1. Like an absolute idiot, I sold my Novation K Station a while back because I wasn't using it. Now, of course, I could really really do with it. Twerp. *slaps self*

And predictably, they're now selling for twice what I let mine go for.

    *slaps self again*

      @jezzaboyhas it spot on.

Just how predictable are we? :)

  2. Today is a very, very good day. :)

    (for non-musical reasons)

  3. FINALLY got Thea back.  Collected her at 10 this morning.

    Fast asleep on her bed.

  4. Dang it. Because of my "which bass do you want but shouldn't" topic I posted a wanted ad for a Sterling Ray24 or 34. Stupid GAS.

Quick, delete it while no one's looking ;)

  5. I am very proud to say I am now an endorsee for Aguilar Amplification! A huge thank you specifically to Pete from their UK distribution Barnes & Mullins!

  6. Really really pleased with a couple of purchases from fellow BC members in the last week or so. Got myself an amazing AI DoubleShot cab, and a Danelectro Longhorn bass. Both amazing. A good start to the new year for me :)

Happy new year to you too.

  8. Bit of an emergency. Dep required Tomorrow 12 midday 08/01/24 for paid rehearsal in Pontypridd South Wales paid half MU performance rate plus travel expenses (out of my own pocket)

I have all the dots and setlist with links to the tracks

I’ve dislocated my shoulder and broken my little finger falling down the stairs

Only just saw this @Phill glad you're sorted for cover.
Hope your shoulder and finger are on the mend asap.

  9. Great gig last night, supporting Merry Hell - they were brilliant. Also, the bassist let me pick up his Danelectro Longhorn bass..... wow! I now want one. Oh no, the return of GAS. Seriously though, didn't know what I was missing. Seriously lightweight and comfortable to play. Sounded great too :)

The more I see videos of the Danelectro Longhorn, the more I realise it's a bass that has suddenly grown on me....out of nowhere.

  10. Will this cursed GAS never end!!!

      Marc S

I am completely cured of GAS
But on the other hand, I keep looking at the marketplace! (So "No" in other words)

  12. I heard that the Bass Player in Gov't MULE uses a gtr pedal for fuzz? Who's heard of this? Wut do u use for  Bass Fuzz?

    Thx, boyonbass

I use the one of the overdrive effects on my Zoom B3. Apologies, I can't recall which one, but there are quite a few on there.
BTW. I'm just reading Peter Hook's book "Unknown Pleasures" and in it he says that his favourite amp head was a Guitar amp head, attached to a bass cab.

  13. Any BCers in/around Southend fancy some live goth/post-punk music action on Friday? My band, The InSect, is headlining. Details below

  14. My daughter wants to play! Happy days! Also twice as much gear to buy which I see as an additional plus point. She quickly dropped playing guitar after a couple of tries but has stuck at 4 strings and asks me to use a bass almost every night. She got the bug big time and is soooo excited by anything and everything bass. I'm loving it ❤️

Excellent news. When my son was in his teens, he started to play bass - and that inspired me to pick up my bass more often.
Hope your daughter stays keen on bass :)

  15. I am now a veteran here on BassChat. Does that just mean I'm old? 😉  😀

  16. Hi, I’m researching the best way to re create the sound of an upright on my Dean Pace EUB. I’ve tried using a condenser mic which sounds fantastic but feeds back like crazy once the desired volume level is achieved. I don’t want to upgrade the piezos or preamp but have been contemplating trying the “Tone Dexter” preamp.

I can justify the purchase as it can be used in conjunction with my acoustic upright as well, but before I do this I was wondering if it’s a stupid idea (in relation to the EUB)

ok I’ve said it, let the merriment commence 😃

PPS. I recently got myself an EBS Micro Bass pedal, which is also something else you may wish to look into - it offers good tonal control / EQ options

I meant to add; getting your playing technique right will be the biggest first step, of course.

And so your journey of discovery begins......
Hi there frannie, I've been on the same journey. The bad news is, I never quite managed to get that sound.
You can make an EUB sound good, or even great - but it's never quite the same. The closest to a "natural" "acoustic" sounding EUB I found was the Yamaha SLB silent bass. The pickup is superb, but they don't tell you their secret.
A bass with a small, hollow acoustic chamber might be your best bet - like the Eminence EUB. I own a BSX, which sounds amazing. I also have an Ibanez Upswing, which sounds great, but not quite like an acoustic DB.... it has its' own sound.
I've not tried a Tone Dexter - so if you get one, please let me know how you get on.
I tried several preamps and effects pedals, again some helped, but didn't quite get me there. You may wish to look at the TC Electronics "Body Res" (designed to make acoustic instruments sound like they're resonating more) - if you can get hold of one.
If you do manage to get that sound right on an EUB.... please let everyone know - it's something a lot of people are chasing.
Of course, a midi system can replicate the sound - if you can fabricate a pickup to fit an EUB.
      Best of luck

  19. Hi, everybody. I'm learning several instruments, mostly electric bass guitar with no pick. I've been learning for a couple years. I love it. I mostly play gigs in a duet with my brother on electric guitar. We both sing.

We do it because it's fun, and because making music along with small groups of people is tangible magic.

  20. Fender Bassman 1200 incoming.  Will need a tech visit tho, at the very least it needs a new volume pot

    1. Marc S

      Marc S

Have a great NBD. Fingers crossed that the tech work is as simple as a new pot.

  21. In a weird situation where I have £1k-£1.2k to spend on a new bass and I just can't find anything I want in that range 🙃

Firstly, @Ruarlbeat me to my suggestion ;)
Secondly, I'm with @eude- if there's nothing grabbing your attention currently, then hang on to the dosh until something crops up.
Otherwise you may end up getting something you don't gel with.... and sod's law - something you really fancy then turns up!
option 3 though, is that I'm sure I should sell something ha ha

Not tried one - but they do look good.
£102 seems a great price anyway. Does it play and sound like a more expensive instrument @Rich?
Taking a cheaper bass to some gigs / venues can be a good move. Enjoy

  24. There was a bit of a mishap on the way back from tonight's rehearsal...
Time to book an appointment with the luthier, and dig out the EUB for tomorrow's jam and Friday's gig.
