1. MB1. Check out - off topic - audience depreciation-written by the wigfinder general. no amount of amp modelings gonna help you out with that one!
2.
Hi guys - I'm thinking about a fretted 5 at the moment and I've seen this on eBay link does anybody know anything about these? Looks pretty decent and is nice and cheap, but does that mean it's going to be crap Thanks in advance... John
MB1. try before you buy, playable, cheap, alas not a great trade/resale value ,if you wanna, move on up!,at a later date.the olp tony levin 5 string basses are supposed to be very nice for the price and active.couple on ebay just recently second hand.
3. MB1. Frightening!,definately not for the feint hearted! beautiful plumage!
4. MB1. is it actually in stock, or is it just a picture on your website, always a favourite that one!
5.
MB1. Thanks! that particular ones been bugging me for a while, wicked line, remembered by the younger folk as here come the men in black, will smith has a lot to answer for! stick with patrice and freddie!!! MB1.
6. MB1. Keeps getting weirder and weirder this, sorry to hear about your dad mate, seems i hit a nerve there, or at least your dad did anyway.paul mccartney could perhaps make a song out of that"dont go pissing on cattlefence"??or chasing polarbears either indeed.before anybody thinks im having a go at paul mccartney, im not, he actually did write that, about the polarbears and frogs as well.innovative and informative!!!bassbloke always iffy buying a discontinued high tech amp off anybody regardless of what your thinking of doing with it(this includes urinating on it).amps like tvs do store a certain amount of power so i wouldnt recomend urinating on them switched on or off. MB1.
7. MB1. some good advice there kiddies from your uncle old git!take heed!!!make sure you disconnect the peavey from the mains supply before urinating on it.
8. MB1. I was not the first to mention a pedalboard and they do include amp modeling on various pedalboards as well as on various amps. i dont think any of the modeling amps or pedalboards are accurate just my view, which im entitled to.you dont have to take it as gospel,Or get upset about it! FREESPEECH!!!AIR YOUR VIEWS ON BASSCHAT.CO.UK MB1.
9. MB1. The original question was are modeling amps accurate.i dont think they are, my opinion ,thats why i dont use them,as for using other effects i use them sparingly as i do like the sound of my bass ,i dont wish to colour its sound with effects end of story.if you dont like it ,tough, everybodys entitled to an opinion. personally i wouldnt piss on a peavey bam if it was on fire, each to there own! MB1.
10. MB1. Anybody know who the bass player is/was on patrice rushens forget me nots. MB1.

12. MB1. Thanks guys, kind of thought that might be the case the quality of sound was great just couldnt get any reasonable volume out of it,it would definately not compete with our drummer, but as you say great for home use and still excellent value for money. many thanks! MB1.
13. MB1. Went to sound control today to check out one of these amps.aha in the corner there it was very nice.first thing it has two speakon leads going into 2 mag cabs which i noticed were both rated at 8 ohm(£149 each so i was told even though i didnt want to know!)anyway i fired it up,first impressions, its not very loud, nice sound, nice graphic eq no volume.i got the instructions out and its actually for use with 4 ohm speakers.after attempting to explain this to the assistant he told me the mag speakers were £149.now bear in mind i was trying to tell him the amp was attatched to the wrong speakers?.anyway he soon dissapeared( and brought me back a ashdown brochure )and i had a quick look round at the ashdown stock. the only speakers i could find rated at 4 ohm was an ashdown 8x10.so in theory id have to rig the amp up to 2 ashdown 8x10s to get a full 250 watt from the amp?ashdown cabs have one jack and one speakon connector unless youve got the older ones.i unfortunately have the older ones rated at 8 ohm each(mini 15,mini 4x8) so this was beginning to look like a waste of time.im not entirely sure about this so please correct me if i am wrong, is the output of the amp effectively halved if you connect a 8 ohm speaker to a 4 ohm amp?sound control had connected 2 x 8 ohm cabs to a 4 ohm amp,is this why the amp was so quiet?.overall i thought the sound was quite good, played a warwick thumb and a stingray through it nice sound but to be honest ive heard louder practice amps.ive looked through ashdowns catalogue and they do very few 4 ohm cabs so this is not really the bargain i expected.can anybody throw any light on this matter and has anybody whose bought one of these amps had this problem?.i didnt purchase one! 14. MB1. Hello the message i was attempting to get across is exactly what bod 2 has said ,but mine seems to have been misinterprated, and kinda blown out of proportion, ive seen many bands overdo things with too many effects where its just not neccesary.theyre nice to have but using them sparingly can often be more effective.sometimes its the less the more.by the way MR PED ive been in the studio on many occasions and have never felt i needed to use a mass of effects to get a good sound.there arent many engineers who are willingly gonna give you a crap bass sound, especially when its there reputation and often livlihood at stake.last time i was in the studio the engineer was actually a bass player himself which was nice! MB1.
15. MB1. as i previously said russ each to there own! is it landscape gardening or bass playing that is the question?
16. MB1. mr bass ferrett seems to know where im going with this, most quality bassists dont use loads of effects they dont need to.if youve got three members of any band all trying to be individualistic with the aid of pedalboards it can get too much, unless your into the art of noise, that is.most people probably only ever use maybe 4 sounds on there pedalboards, theres ussually maybe 40+others you could use as sound effects for films or to scare pigeons with, most arent even remotely to do with basses, there just the same programs from the equivalent guitar model ,which some guy whose forgotten to take his medication thinks might sound good on bass.then theres the amp and speaker modelling! deja vu anybody? MB1.
17. MB1. Whos got a nice pedalboard then! you spend all that money on a nice bass, then defeat the object entirely by adding mush, a couple of hundred quids worth of mush? or is that more arse???how many settings have you actually used on this pedalboard can you make your bass go ya ya ya ya!or whooosh whoosh and why the f$$k would anybody want to? or is that the highlight of your set ? too many effects does not a great band make nor a great bassist for that matter. MB1.
18. MB1. 2 guitarists+ 2 pedalboards + 1 bassplayer +1 pedalboard +drummer= mush.would it not just be easier to get a keyboard player and take out two pedalboards from the equation surely theres too much going on there?whatever happened to keeping it simple?. anyway the question was are modeling amps accurate?,everybodys gone onto pedalboards including me, and to be honest i couldnt give a monkeys now!im off for a pint! enjoy the bank holiday!!!!! enjoy life enjoy what you do! MB1.
19. MB1. charlie tumahai.be bop deluxe the first bassist i ever saw play and sing harmony/fender telecaster bass John Rhino Edwards. now with status quo but theres much more to this guy!/alembic/status pino palladino.where do you start with this guy/musicman/fender norman watt roy. oi norman play the bass!/alembic/fender gerry mcavoy.rory g and nine below zero. solid/fender/musicman.
20. MB1. saw mr hamm on the peavey gig he did for them in manchester absolutely amazing, but thats mr hamms playing not his modelling amp.you must be playing to musos cause most of the places i play, the audience wouldnt know the difference between a ampeg svt an ashdown a peavey or anything else, as long as it sounds ok there fine with it. i really dont want to get into an argument if it works for you it works, bear in mind though it might not work for others.with all them different amps you gotta be an engineers nightmare.sorry i come from the gerry mcavoy plug and play school! all the best MB1.
21. MB1. where does buxton rub come from then?(a medicinal vapour rub similar to vick but a lot stronger apparently).too many buxtons not enough time!
22. MB1. regarding missing the point ,i dont use a big rig cause it looks nice! i use decent gear so i can hear myself, first and foremost,i would not wish to ever use a pedalboard to plug into the pa i wouldnt have the cheek to turn up to a gig with just a pedalboard,i know some people do, if thats your thing fine, but thats really not for me.i prefer to hear what im playing and be in control of that sound on stage. MB1. as chris b mentioned a lot of these pedalboards are nothing more than toys to get your money!(a view i can see a lot o truth in, theyed be more useful if they brewed up and made toast,or do boss already make one?
23. MB1. if you wanna keep it cheap, ashdown strings at sound control roundwound 40 /100s £9.95 for a set (think theyve got some other heavier gauges too) they are quite good, great value, and are actually made by rotosound, not a lot of people know that!good price good quality!good luck! MB1.
24. MB1. Best place to have a look john is your local carboot, providing youve not had too many tinned tomatoes the night before.bound to be loads this weekend.got a nice aluminium case previously used by a artist for his brushes and stuff cost me £2.00 had it a good while now nice ,light and virtually indestructible.only problem with the old carboot is restraint you can end up with a lot of stuff you dont need(similar to looking in your workdesk!)THIS SHOULD BE THE CHEAPEST OPTION THOUGH! MB1.
25. MB1. Have just recently fixed a tanglewood acoustic guitar, the top had completely snapped off, tuners and all right across the thin part of the neck.i used hard as nails to repair this, tied and weighted the repair and left it for 24 hours.i then drilled and cross pinned the repair sunk the pin heads and filled the holes with wood filler.light sanding and staining. repair is 100% guitar stays in tune job done! hard as nails in the tube works!
