In fairness, it could be that blyn doesn't have a regular gig that suits fretless. I've had a fretless bass sitting around gathering metaphorical dust for some years, but I've only just started using it in anger this year for a few songs with the new neo-prog project we're putting together. Neither of my other bands would work at all with fretless.

Ditto, don't think my fretless would work in a Glam band....

I sold my EBMM Ray fretless and bought a cheaper Saddo Metro Express to free up some cash but still have a fretless for the odd noodle.

I depped with a band some years ago. One of the guitarists was done for murder, and storing his poor victim at a self storage place. He also 'visited' the place until asked to clear the space because of the smell. He got 30 years.

Think we should lock the thread now - that’s unbeatable

  3. Band 1. The vocalist had an affair with the girl who did the lights…..who was married to the sound man.

Band 2. Drummer threw a tantrum at me because somebody hoofed him off his kit when he was messing a song up at a jamnight. Apparently we should have all stopped playing.

Band 3. The guitarist blamed the band for not wanting to do an encore to the landlord when it was in fact him that was too pi55ed to carry on playing.

Samsung. I bought my daughter a phone many years ago, it had an alleged warranty on it. The screen cracked through no fault of her own (that is what she told me and she's not a dishonest person), so I got in contact with them to be told that the warranty doesn't cover the screen. I pointed out that it didn't say so in the warranty blurb and was told the equivalent of "well, it just doesn't, tough titty mate". That was the last new Samsung product I will ever buy. I'd consider buying a secondhand one because they do not gain from it, but only if there were no alternatives.

Samsung with me also.  In my case a 50" smart TV.  Not an inconsiderable spend so I was royally p155ed when the screen started to suffer issues at 5yr old, especially seeing as my previous Panasonic had done 10 years and was only replaced as it was a chonky flat screen.  Was informed by their tech support that it was a known issue and the cost of repair would be not far off what I would pay for a new one.

Sony got my money this time around - hope they're a bit better.

I recently bought some new strings to replace the Elixir 45-100 rounds that I'm using on my Mustang. I play in drop D and found to my surprise that this works really well despite the short scale and relatively light strings.

However I ordered the wrong set, instead of nickel 45-100 I bought Stainless Steel 45-105, so near enough. Strung them up earlier, including giving the fingerbard a bit of Planet Waves Hydrate fluid, and you know what, they're great.

I have never been able to use heavier strings on long scale basses as I go so used to a .40 G string and love the lower tension, but going down to 30" the .45 G makes sense and feels fine, more familiar now specially since the 'Stang has been my go to for a while now. The tighter D string is noticeable, and the SS strings have a bit more top end and I think a less focused midrange, which suits the bass well because it's naturally mid punchy. It means using both pickups in jazz bass mode sounds a little deeper.

So all in all, happy accident. Reckon I'll use these again next time (which IME will be about a year, more because I think I should rather than them needing it!)

I’ve always used a heavier gauge set on my shorties than the longies. Don’t know where I got the advice from; all mine are 50-105. I find I can easily pull the G off the fretboard on my G&L if I don’t do this…..crack handed, that’s me.

  6. I’m sure it’ll find its place in the armoury Rich. I scratched my S2 itch a couple of years back, still got it but I don’t use it that much. Wouldn’t sell it though as it has some sentimental attachment. I feel I’m a heretic by saying I preferred my old Streamline…..noticed they’re also ridiculously expensive now 😟

  7. An immaculate condition Sterling 4H made in the old US of A. This is a 2013 model and has been well preserved as I play most gigs on short scales with the Glam band.

This has been modified during its time with me, I wasn’t a fan of the anaemic neck finish so I had the neck refinished in a vintage tint gloss by none other than Jon Shuker. As it’s a maple board the bass was refretted at the same time but upgraded with stainless frets. The bass comes in the original HSC which is spotless.
Not really interested in trades unless you have a EBMM short scale Ray or stingray special, with some cash your way.

Not willing to post so this would be a collect or shady roadside cafe meet-up jobby.

This is very much a feeler at this stage as this is one of the nicest Sterling’s I’ve played and I may come to my senses and just get a SBMM short scale ray without having to let this go.EEF6E0E8-FA47-4F57-A8FA-6464FADD5838.thumb.jpeg.2e89c773dbcb6ade849b8fe56c8820ca.jpeg44F7602C-0684-45DC-8A11-9384AA1B756F.thumb.jpeg.c88005adea274128cae211e56c2e4c30.jpegD639D695-9EB6-4F5D-A122-A6E73842CD51.thumb.jpeg.7037081dd4ee04d205040236af4e64c8.jpeg5941560C-0294-480C-AFE0-9A867C908D0C.thumb.jpeg.cd745c41878ef7dcb5d4ff7918a33fdc.jpeg

  8. I think John Rossal’s band came on to a hash up of RnR when we supported em a few years back. The audience was very mixed with some loving it and some shaking heads. That said, when Heaven 17 did the human league version at Sheffield a few years back everyone was on their feet - go figure. We were looking at ‘Let’s get together again’ on the GB front.
