1. I find some comments on these sort of topics bizarre. To measure a bass players worth on their supposed technical ability is very narrow minded. A good bass player plays to suit the genre and style the band wants to achieve. There are so many factors that make up a 'Good' bass player, even including how they look and perform on stage.

Although I'm not a huge fan, to suggest that U2 are talentless is ridiculous.

2. I'd work on the basis that most venues have no idea what constitutues a band or a duo so best to explain.
Our local pub always puts signs up saying LIVE BAND tonight only to find when we get there it's a duo playing to backing tracks.

We also turned up at a gig once and when the drummer starting taking his kit in the landlord came running over to say he didn't realise we had a drummer and was worried we would be too loud. This was despite him booking us through our Facebook page clearly showing us with a drummer.

The rack mount hardware should have been included along with extension cables. This is the kit, if you don't have one. You can see the cut outs in the blanking plate for mounting the two antennae in the front of the rack beside the unit.

Great that answers my question. Thanks !

Are the aerials fixed in your setup? What is your system?

It's one of these I picked up off eBay

I can get the rack ears to mount it in the rack and the aerials once connected can be angled in any direction. The shallowest rack I've seen would mean they would have to lie flat

5. May be a daft question but I have a wireless Mic and I want to house the receiver in a 2U rack case along with a media player. The depth of the receiver is only 150mm and the shallowest racks I can find are 250mm front to back. The aerials on the receiver are on the back of the unit and I assume need to be upright when connected. (All pics I have seen show the aerial pointing up) Therefore there isn't a rack case short enough to allow the aerials to point upwards when fitted into the rack.
Is it okay to have the aerials lying horizontal out of the back of the case or do I need to try and find a shorter case?

6. I had two LH500s and loved them. Very simple eq but with a lovely tone and so much power.
I don't think they are as heavy as people make out. Unfortunately with the birth of class D amps everything else feels heavy. But the LH500 is not as heavy as others I've had.

Only reason I moved them on was size rather than weight. I store the whole PA in my house and my current MB500s fit in my guitar case with my basses.

7. Some great tips thanks. Will look at the chord tones too. I think the most satisfying thing about learning all the modes to a particular key is being able to play all over the fretboard from the first up to the 17th fret covering all strings.

8. I am a self taught bassist/guitarist. Spent my youth playing in originals bands and after a long break i am now in my 40s playing in a covers band. In all bands I've never needed to learn much theory and especially now I just learn the bassline to the song we are covering.

Kids are a bit older now and wife is always out so I decided to go back to basics and learn a load of scales, dorian, locrian etc
Wow...what a revelation. I have never enjoyed playing bass this much and can hardly put it down. Stick my earphones into my amp linked up to you tube for some jamming backing tracks in a chosen key and I'm in heaven. Noodling for hours!!

Anyone else gone back to learning scales many years after picking up the bass?

9. We use a pair of EV Zlxps 12" and a Yamaha MG10xu mixer and we only put vocals through. Plenty loud enough for pubs and within budget.

Alto TS212 get good reviews too and are a bit cheaper. We use a pair as monitors but could use them as main speakers.
Some good warranty deals on new speakers as well. We got 5 years with the alto ones which is a long time!

10. You will get more for your money buying used but obviously be careful what you buy as I've been conned a few times buying used gear that's turned out to be faulty. At least with new you get at least a 12 month warranty and very often longer.

Hartke gear is relatively cheap and has good reputation. If you arent bothered about small class D amps the Hartke LH500 is a very good head and going for £250 new. Paired with an 8ohm 210 or 212 cab will be plenty loud enough for most gigs and you can add another 8ohm cab to get the most out of the amp if needed. Very simple to use too.
