  1. You think you've got a bass distortion? Think again. The DOD FX58 sounds ridiculously heavy even with the knob at zero. No low end loss, becomes quite a deadly fuzz character when cranked. Presence is like a high end rolloff. I've always had a soft spot for DOD pedals, and this one will brighten your FX shelf (TM) like nothing else.

Price includes postage, I'm afraid I don't have the box. Takes 9V battery or centre positive power supply.

Does it have to be Google Authenticator? Not another 2FA app such as Authy?

Authy has been depreciated on this software now for some reason - the only option other than Google or Security Questions is Verfiy, a paid, text based service which will take some setting up. I’ll look into it later 👍🏼

I know you shouldn’t have to, but draw it in Word or something and send them a PDF?

I did, it’s like they totally ignored them. I drew a diagram of the angled 1/4” jack to female jack lead and they messaged back with a link to a normal cable and said “something like this?”

Two emails later and I’m going somewhere else depending on their reply maybe tomorrow.

I've been using a Lekato WS-50 (5.8GHz) set for a while now. As I wasn't happy with the way the transmitter would twizzle in the output socket, I've now got a Levy's wireless holder on my strap - the Lekato transmitter sits folded in this, plugged in to the female end of a 75cm male jack to female socket extension cable from Designacable. Works well enough, though I do sometimes wish I'd asked if I could have a right-angle jack on the instrument end of the cable as this would have been even neater.

Sounds good. I’ve just had a rather infuriating email conversation with designacable asking quite simply for two leads, one right angle jack to Jack with 70cm between them and another like the one you’ve pictured but angled male jack and 1.5” long (to plug receiver into pedalboard so it doesn’t stick out) and they’ve misinterpreted me twice now!

  5. I’ve just bought a really cheap tuner (Vivlex?) https://amzn.eu/d/7hUpQZp

It’s pretty bang on tbh, much faster and more stable than my TU2. I find that the Boss can ‘hunt’ quite a bit so I’m never sure how accurately I’m in tune. Maybe it’s too accurate? Either way the new one is steady and really fast.

I think the technology has clearly moved on a lot since I bought the TU2, I’ve previously had TC Polytune Clip (though for bass you might as well get the Unitune) which is excellent but I wanted a pedal and the TC pedal was too wide.

  6. I just bought one of these tuners (wish I’d bought yours instead!) so I thought I’d just mention that they’re great.

It was the only size that would fit on my pedalboard so I thought I’d give it a try. I was fully expecting to send it back but it’s super fast and stable. Much prefer it to my TU-2. Bargain for the price!

I've got this. Bought it for my now-defunct prog band, where fretless would've been nice in parts of a couple of songs. Sadly hasn't been out of its case in several years!

It's a 1985 Gordy Blueshift, and was a one-off, as far as I could find out.

Super cool. I think I’ve seen and admired that body shape before (albeit a singular necked instrument). Guessing the controls are shared by both sets of pickups and switched by the toggle in the centre?

I think it makes more sense having the fretless on top, but some are the opposite.

… how long did it take you to do that detailing on the Spectracomp Ped? Also did you need to get authorisation from the TCESCAS 😆 ?

I was hoping you’d ignore that but I’m happy to take whatever punishment you deem appropriate. In the future I’ll submit a proper TCESCAS-01/24 form.

I was going to buy a ‘Loknob’ (by D’Addario) but I didn’t want it appearing in the joint account 🫣😂

  9. Just a little update now that I’m using a spectracomp. Also managed to get a small cheapo tuner on there which actually works brilliantly, tracks my detuned Mustang perfectly! Also put a little gooseneck LED lamp on there because the rest of the band have them and I was jealous. Mind you, they’re all using Neural Cortex things and they call my pedalboard “the pedal museum”

    Signal flow is:

    Mutron (running at 24v)

    Distortion (dry output to tuner)

    Fuzz

    Bassballs

    Spectracomp

    Warm Audio DI

    HPF (at 18v)

    Powered by a CIOKS DC5

  10. It’s quite deceptive because it can be both the simplest and the most complex compressor in the world. Either one knob with whatever it comes with as default or dig into the editor with 30 something parameters.

Thanks for that, good to hear. Will also keep an eye out for one on here I think and try it out! Nothing to lose if you can get one for £50! I do like the TC minis anyway and have had a good experience of them so far.

I'm selling my MXR now if you want to have a crack with that and maybe compare the two. £50 for the spectracomp is amazing value and yes they're built really nicely with a satisfying footswitch.

Interested to see you mention floor noise @ped, I’ve had many compressors too, and this always bugged me. I was going to try an M87 or Spectracomp next, both of which have very mixed reviews on the subject.

Yeah noise is what put me off some of the other compressors I've used. With my headphone setup at home I'm particularly anal about any noise and as such I went through a lot of cork sniffing to find the perfectly quiet signal (and I don't like noise gates)

The MXR is really good, and the noise sounds smooth and not gritty so it's really not very noticeable. The Spectra is super quiet. I think some reviews say it can get a bit noisy if you turn up the dial as there's sometimes make up gain applied as I understand it, but with the dial at 10 O'clock it's as quiet as the best I've tried. I know some others who said it was noisy were running it after several pedals with less than true bypasses so naturally the comp amplified that at the end of the chain. I honestly don't think you'll find quieter - digital compression always strikes me as quieter anyway.

Another important factor for me was the fact that it remembers the 'on' or 'off' status when power to my board is turned off - because it's underneath the board I want to turn it on, tape down the dial and forget about it. The MXR did the same.

  13. Hi guys

My guitarist is restoring a nice old twin neck Ibanez and I jokingly said I could get a twin neck bass (fretted/fretless). Out of curiosity, beyond ordering an aliexpress one for £300 I wondered if there are any decent ones in the UK. I narrowly missed a Washburn one on eBay but it was quite expensive and I'm not sure I am fully into buying a really good one. But I must admit since I've started looking I'm enjoying at least checking out different models.

Please share any cool ones! Headless preferred because it suits the vibe, I think
