1. Since doing Krav Maga I have to say I might find it hard not to lamp the guy. At 48 tend to avoid mosh areas because of this (although I did get caught a couple of years ago with Sabbath, but I couldn't move so I just went with it and it was quite enjoyable). As I have a recurring shoulder injury if someone pulled me by the arm it might cause me some pain so I think a decking would not be out of order.
2. Already said this on the other thread but Yes' Tales works better for me by throwing out part 3 completely. OK this only works as a single CD as it would still be a side and a half of vinyl.
3. Couldn't disagree more about Lamb... when I play it I play it all. Yes' Tales... I love apart from part 3. They even stopped performing that part it live (citing difficulty) whilst performing the others. I actually think that three parts on one CD actually works better (I burnt my own version like this).
4.
Yes - Relayer Not sure on this one, but it certainly feels to me it's telling a story, what's anyone else think?
Well l think Gates of Delerium which takes up a while side is, but I don't think the two B-side tracks continue the theme.
5. I guess Bowie's Ziggy Stardust would count but definitely 1.Outside. I just wish he'd got round to finishing the proposed trilogy.
6. Oddly enough I was dreaming last night that a mate was telling me the title of the new Motörhead album. Just wish I could remember what it was. It was typically Motörhead though. My first ever gig back in 1982 was Motörhead on the Iron Fist tour: stage descending from the roof in Spinal Tap fashion. Great stuff. With not long losing Philthy Animal and earlier my other Rick hero Chris Squire this has been a poor year.
7. I haven't even checked venues yet. But I will go to a few to see how they operate and yes I would not just turn up and expect anything. I am OCD about this and would be checking all details of how I would hook up and what they could and could not accommodate. If the idea of a 13 amp socket sends them into fits then I'd probably walk away anyway, it's not like it's rocket science. However I have done nights with bass, keyboards, vocals and drum machine (three performers) and they were on nights that were mostly acoustic guitar singer-songwriters and no-one was bothered (probably made a nice change).
8.
It's all good, but do be aware that few open mic sessions will be keen to grind to a halt for 20 minutes while you set up your toys! The ideal jammer walks on stage as soon as his name is called, his bass already tuned, plugs the lead into his bass and starts playing. I've seen any number of guitarists infuriate the entire room by spending ages kneeling down, plugging and re-plugging various pedals, looking for power supplies, asking if the PA has a parallel output busbar with its own aux and slider, and does anyone have a spare patch cable? Damn! Forgot to bring the tuner.
As I say I like to be rehearsed, which includes rigging and derigging. I intend to lay everything out at home as I would need it, building from scratch, and minimising what I take (I could take loads of effects etc.). I'll probably need a small mixer so everything will be plugged into that, all levels preset and straight to PA, all pre-labelled, cables labelled/colour-coded etc. I want to be self-contained. Plus I would try and be first on so that I could already have the pedals on stage. Derigging is always quick anyway, I'm an old hand at that side.
9.
As I needed an ATM I set off slightly early so got to our rendezvous about 5 minutes early
What is this ATM of which you speak? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/268121-atm-or-cash-point/ Actually I'm keen to start doing an Open Mic (not one of those acoustic ones though) as I'd like to use my Taurus 3 bass pedals and RC-300 looper for some fun. Just need to actually write the music now, I like to be completely rehearsed before I venture out.
10. I'm a moderator over at the Line 6 forums and they are definitely working on this. It is sad however that people dive into these updates and don't consider the consequences and immediately blame everyone except M$. If you're even a half-serious muso you do not update a working system just before a big recording session.
11.
Aphrodites Child 1970/71 era - not sure what album but this track was always a cracking prog song to me. https://youtu.be/3KCbqhJt16k
Ah yes, next on my Amazon wish list as it happens, it has to be "666".
12. Wouldn't be able to pick a top Prog album. Band-wise I like all the usual suspects and bought the Banks' album off the back of the OP. Some other interesting suggestions I haven't seen before, so more music to buy. I like a bit of Goblin for their unique Horror Prog genre. Also Quiet Sun/Phil Manzanera albums are different to the Roxy stuff. Of modern Prog, Thumpermonkey are my current favourite, and Syd Arthur for a modern take on the Canterbury Scene.
13. Pretty much disagree with everything the OP says. Love all their stuff from the early edgy new wave, through to psychedelic 'Dukes...' to Apple Venus. Actually I think Colin's songs are the weakest thing on that album. Not bad as such but just don't fit into to sound and vibe of the rest of the album. I can play River of Orchids, Easter Theatre, Green Man And Harvest Festival on loop.
14. Stay is f***ing brilliant. I would pay to see you just to hear that, so keep it in the set. Now if you could pull off Sue (Or In A Season of Crime) I'd be mighty impressed (probably not a crowd-pleaser that one).
15. I would suggest at least one of you works in an alternative tuning. Also I would probably back off on distortion on certain guitars, with three guitars you don't want all be at 11 all the time. I play in a guitar trio but we play in a drone tuning that means chords are actually only formed when we play together. OK you're not going down that route but maybe some tuning with open chords. Of course this screws you up for scales and solos if that's what you're into.
