  1. Around 2017 I started singing properly; I put loads of work into technique and growing my confidence and I thought 'I can't believe I've missed out all these years'.

Then COVID turned my mild asthma into COPD, and there are about 3 times EVERY day where I question whether my medicine will kick in before I pass out from suffocation. Every time I try to sing, I get about 30 seconds in and then my chest seizes up. I hate it.

  2. Hi all,

I bought a Roland kit a few years ago and these came as spares. I've never put them on the kit and the guy I bought them from said the same (although there are a couple of faint marks on one that could be stick marks).

There are 4 Roland PD8 pads in like-new condition. I'm after £5 each for these or £20 for all 4. They're going for £10 each on eBay but I want the space!

Collection from Cumbria or Bolton, or I can easily put all 4 in a box if the buyer wants me to ship.

    Thanks

  3. My teacher (Steve Berry) taught me to use single-note drones (sometimes called cello drones) and bow long notes whilst blindfolded to improve intonation. I would play up and down a scale, and really isolate what I wanted to improve, for instance I would focus on single-position shifts and bow the notes of the G major scale against a G drone, then change position and do the same. I spent hours at uni doing this and I found it really meditative.

No metronome means no timing pressure, so you focus on the pressure of shifting and fingering correctly. Once you feel confident then introduce a metronome, but now you're focussing on shifting in tune AND in time when you SHOULD have the 'in tune' bit down. I used to practice for around 4 hours a day with long, regular breaks and over the 2 years I did this, my muscle memory improved no end... then I played mostly fretted electric for 15 years and lost 70% of it, but at least I know where I'm wrong whereas I used to listen to recordings and cringe that I didn't realise (when playing) how bad I was. Now I know!

  4. There are a variety of opinions online about this pedal but I bought it because I had a cheap acoustic that had a cheap pickup and preamp, and although it played really well it didn’t sound great. I wanted an equally cheap solution to get rid of the quacky piezo tone, and the preamp in the guitar was really lacking whereas the EQ options in this pedal are quite versatile, particularly the sweepable mid control.

It isn’t going to replace a mic in front of the guitar for great tone, but if you have a problematic guitar, this might be a cheap solution to getting a better sound out of it.

I live in Kendal in the Lake District and my daughter lives in Bolton so I’m regularly around these locations and I’m happy to meet someone around these areas; I’ll drive a reasonable distance if it means saving us both the hassle of shipping the items.

If you’d rather have the item shipped then I would ask that the buyer arranges this. I can drop off at a suitable collection point, and I work from home if the item is to be collected. In such a case, I will ensure that the item is properly packaged with polystyrene or bubblewrap and I’ll make a trip to Curry’s to get suitable box or to assemble one if the item is too large.

I’ll have quite a few items up for sale over the next few weeks and I’ll also be advertising them on other sources, so please let me know if you’re interested and I can ensure that other adverts are taken down as I don’t want to disappoint anyone.

  5. I bought this pedal when I was doing a lot of live electronica. The videos or this pedal are lots of Cher-style hard-tuned vocals but I found that some of the other settings were much more useful. This pedal does a lot of vocal effects and I ended up using it mainly in the studio for a variety of vocal effects that were much more complicated to do with strings of VSTs. One of my favourite things was to improvise a melody line and make multiple passes to create synthetic choirs and soundscapes. Some of the formant-shifting effects are amazing for adding octave-down style vocals for retro production or formant-shifting vocals as is currently popular in the house scene.

It also has an instrument input that allows you to combine keys/vocals/bass and voices in interesting ways, but as often is the case, most of the demo videos seem to focus not on this, but on one sound. You kinda have to experiment with it to discover the possibilities.

Its a weird pedal, and unless you are producing soundscapes or working in film and TV, I think it might have limited appeal, but if you are looking for unusual techniques in the studio, or you’re trying to experiment with different vocal approaches then I really recommend trying this thing out.

  6. This is one of Mahalo’s higher-quality Ukuleles, with a mahogany body and hard case. When I first got it the tuning was all over the place, but I had a luthier loot at the bridge and nut and now it is much better.

It’s still an entry-level uke, but the hardcase and mahogany body make for a better investment.

  7. This is a fairly standard beginner trumpet. This one was previously bought by a music service who then serviced it and gifted it to me. I stored it for years with the intention of learning it but I’ve never really given it a go, so you’ll see that the cleaning cloth and valve oil are still in their plastic.

The case is sturdy and light, and if you’re looking for a beginner Bb trumpet, this would be a strong contender – certainly better than the Jupiters at a similar price point, but cheap enough for you to not worry about denting it.

My trumpet-player friend had a go when I first got it and he was slightly miffed that his very expensive Yamaha was having problems, whereas this Sonata was flawless.

  8. I used this pedal on a board for a few years then put it in my home studio. I tried a few other octavers, but this just had that low-mid presence that I think most of us imagine when we think of the octave effect.

Then I realised that it said ‘Octave’ and not ‘Octaver’, and that the label said ‘Made in Japan’. Now I know that the guts of this aren’t that different to what is being made today, but I checked serial number and this is from 1987. This a true vintage Boss Octave pedal and the prices on Reverb for these is insane. I’ve no interest in charging ridiculous amounts, but I mean it when I say that compared to other octavers on the market this is a cut above for that classic octave tone.

Since I play mostly jazz guitar nowadays, I’ve decided to let this go. I could probably leave it on my shelf for a few more years and then engage with the pedal collectors, but I’ve got a conservatory roof to replace!!

  9. I’m not sure of the model of this pedalboard but it is really lightweight but still sturdy. I was using it with a variety of pedals and with the lid on, its very secure, whilst taking the lid off allows access to your pedals in a lightweight solution. I was previously using this with a Line 6 M13 before I got the two expression pedals and it was amazing how lightweight and easy it was to move around. The internal dimensions are 530x320mm.

  10. This is a heavy-duty pedal board from Diago’s early offerings. The internal dimensions are 745x350mm. I have stapled velcro to the inside and I was using it to house a Line 6 M13 with plenty of room for PSU, expression pedals and other pedals. It’s a strong beast so it will take the rigours of the road without issue.

  11. There was a time when this was the absolute top of Line 6’s offerings, but the Helix system kinda replaced it. Nonetheless, it is quite popular with guitarists and bassists looking for Line 6 effect modelling without the complex routing and amp-modelling that is currently offered.

This pedal contains all the models of the Line 6 early multi-pedals (DL4, MM4 etc), whilst offering you much more flexibility and access to options that weren’t previously available.

I used this pedal mostly as a reverb/delay/synth machine and using two expression pedals which you can map to any controls within seconds; you just put the pedal in heel-down, decide on the M13 sounds, then put the pedal in toe-down and change however many parameters you choose. The expression pedals now smoothly fade between your two settings, which can be as subtle as ‘a little bit more drive’ or as extreme as you can imagine (that Particle Verb is next-level!).

Using this with the Boss LS2 (also available) adds the option of parallel routing and I strongly recommend looking at this option, as well as the expression pedals, to fully open up the possibilities of this beast.

I’ve not listed the expression pedals yet, as I’ll send them for free if you buy the M13 and one of the pedalboard cases.

  12. Here is a Yamaha Silent Guitar – model SLG200S. I bought this for silent practice and as on-stage backup. I never actually used it on stage as I bought it just before COVID, so it’s been my go-to couch guitar. As such it is in a flawless condition.

At the moment it is strung with D’addario Flat-Tops which really helps quieten it down for the living room. We used to live in a tiny 2-bed council house and I could play it quite hard without waking the family; it was a life-saver during lockdown!

The colour is ‘translucent black’, which looks absolutely incredible and the SRT pickup (updated for the 200 series) sounds amazing, as you would expect from Yamaha. There’s a headphone-out so you can hear the in-built reverb whilst practising, but there’s also an Aux-in so you can jam along to baking tracks (I had iReal Pro on my phone plugged in) and the pickup / mic blend allowed me to dial in a few different sounds – handy when I was trying Gypsy picking.

This comes with the case and ‘case candy’; as you can see from the pictures the body screws off and it fits into a really small, well-padded case.

We’ve moved house and now I don’t have to be as quiet – we also need to replace the conservatory roof! So here is is. There are nearly £700 new so for £450 this is 65% of the new price.

  13. When I bought this, TechSoundSystems were absolutely top-of-the-line and in use by Basschat royalty (Dood loved his 4×12). I have been using this cab for quite a few years with a variety of acts and it has always delivered incredibly present and bassy bass sounds, despite a lack of tweeter (I actually hate tweeters).

The cab is 1 x 15", rated at 400w, but has switchable impedance from 2,4 and 8 Ohms which means that if you are happy with your current setup, you can probably just add this as an extension to get the almost-subsonic bass sounds this thing puts out. I’m not overstating the low-end this thing produces and I know that if I find another rock group I’ll be gutted that I don’t still have this cab.

It’s incredibly light, loud and versatile; if you’re currently using smaller speakers I strongly suggest adding this and seeing what happens.
