  1. OMG, Nick Cave & Bad Seeds back on form with amazing, anthemic new single Wild God

I like the song, but I'm not crazy about the mix. Sounds very toppy to my ears, but that may well be a Nick Cave thing. I'm far from an expert as far as he's concerned.

….and I’ve only just noticed how long we have to wait for the whole album! August 😬

Not really my wheelhouse Clarky, but if I wasn't already gigging I'd struggle down the road to see ya.

Played there Saturday afternoon. Not the most spacious of dressing rooms but did enjoy the general old-school roadmonster vibe. Beefy monitors!

'dressing room' yes it is a bit compact and bijou, isn't it!

  6. That annoying moment when you buy a Big Muff pedal from GAK and - on delivery - you discover the box (correctly labelled as Bass Big Muff) in fact contains a guitar tremelo pedal. Grrrrr

Return it with half a brick inside.

Fortunately GAK were quick to contact and offer to send a replacement plus a free collection of the erroneous pedal. So, all in all, a nuisance but dealt with quickly by GAK customer service

  7. If learning to read music, you can thank me later

  8. Any fans of A Certain Ratio, post-punk funkster, former Factory label mates of Joy Division? I have two tickets for London gig next Saturday and cannot attend due to injury. Can transfer by email in return for donation (at your discretion) to The Dog's Trust

  9. Saw Lizzo at O2 this evening. Did not expect her to start one song with the opening of Yes' Heart of the Sunrise. See here (not my video) from an earlier gig on the tour

      NikNik

      How cool is that??

  10. Saw James Taylor at Apollo last night. Still has that voice and what a band - Steve Gadd on drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass and a bunch of other fine players/singers

    1. yorks5stringer

      yorks5stringer

His voice is like a warm duvet. He's not a bad player either, Lee Sklar said he had great difficulty putting down basslines on his earlier stuff as JT played the basslines as well with his guitar work.

  11. There's a first. We walked away from a gig without playing a note as the pub thought we had too many amps (we are a 5 piece) and our amps looked "too loud". We hadn't even plugged in or fully set up. When they asked us to lose a band member or play after 10pm when their restaurant was closed, we packed our gear and left. Lord Raglan in Wokingham, for the record. My advice: never accept a gig there

Radio WigWam have played a lot of my band West on Colfax  - sorry to hear about the gig. We played a benefit gig with generally a really great crowd, we were half way through and  some drunk shouted play a cover, which quick as a flash our singer said we're not doing Wonderwall to a round of applause, and the guy actually was going to say Wonderwall he admitted later at the bar, that's how i know he was drunk, he slurred at me.  There should be a Brightside/Wonderwall ban for a few years 🙂

Sorry to hear this. It's such a waste of everyone's time too. You could have taken another (paying) booking. They probably had customers turn up, expecting to see a band etc. I too have done free gigs where I've thought "why do I do this?" and of course others where I ended up really enjoying the gig.

Good on you for naming and shaming the pub. Better luck with the next one @Clarky

  12. Next up gig in Wokingham (fairly near Reading, Henley etc) on Saturday. Details here:

  13. Playing my longest ever gig tonight. Two sets for a total of c.2 hours. Back should be fine (debut of sub 7lb Serek Midwestern bass).

Sub 7lb? I could be doing with one of these for my 3 hour pub gigs!

  14. Looking forward to playing Fiddler's Elbow, Camden on Friday. Onstage 8pm in case anyone fancies coming along. Expect rocking blues with tons of guitar solos and barely adequate bass playing 🤣

  17. Big thank you to @Old Horse Murphyfor helping me sort wonky jack socket on my brand new (yes....) Rick 4003S. Took jack plate off his own bass and sent photos to guide me. Top man

  18. Torvill and Dean will be appearing at Bournemouth Pavilion on Saturday. Thus concludes today's skaters update

  19. My two sausage dogs have just been for a walk in Richmond Park and eaten loads of rabbit poo. They are producing lots of little tommy squeakers. Thus concludes today's flatus update

Think yourself lucky Clarky, I stopped to talk to another dog walker earlier today whilst walking my (f***ing stupid) Labrador Buddy, only for my 8-year daughter to point out that Buddy was eating pooh pretty much as it came out of the other dog's a**e.....

  21. Greater love hath no man for a woman ... I have just sat through the first two episodes of the Sex in the City reboot. "And just like that" with Mrs C. This is not bass related but I felt the need to share my pain

Update (because I know you are all desperately interested):  I was obliged to spend a chunk of my Friday evening watching episode 3. Thoroughly enjoyable .... in that it was a fantastic hour spent surfing the web on my mobile phone.

  22. Getting nervous about this fuel shortage/non-shortage. Whole band is supposed to be driving up to Scotland from London on Friday, returning Monday and really don't fancy running out halfway there...

Shame, I'm in Glasgow and there doesn't seem to be as much of a issue up here. If you'd made it over the border I reckon you would have been grand! Such a bonkers situation to end up in!

  24. Parcelled up bass to send to Belgium via DPD, attached customs documents in clear plastic sleeve. Bass rejected and returned to me a few days later, no explanation and no indication the >£100 paid (fully insured for a £2k bass) will even be partially refunded. Brexit, yay

I sold something to a chap in Belgium, didn't get it sent before Christmas.   It'll be back up for sale shortly.  (Brexit isn't the only reason, but it is a reason.)

      Not good.

My parcel also going to Belgium, but not a Bass, appears to have cleared UK customs but hasn't actually left the country yet (as far I can tell from the tracking). When I booked the shipping it was due to be delivered on Thursday (yesterday).
