  2. An update! over a year on and my gear buyin days are still over, cab still sounds beautiful,I almost always use my GK 400 RB '89 vintage but if I fancy a real bit of nostalgia I use my first series Trace AH250(still the loudest 250 watts ever). The only very slight issue is the loose rubber foot, doesn't bother me and strangely its only one of them that ever comes loose. The cab has now done about 150 gigs and shows no signs of serious wear. The sound did get better and louder as the speakers played in. Try one.
  3. they do stand up to life on the road,Ive gigged mine endlessly with some pretty rough handling by a less than sensitive roadie. there is one ding which I did when it was brand new and one foot did come loosewhich was a really easy fix. I must stress that this slight damage was after a mighty trashing in the back of a rattly transit
  4. just an update on the super 12 : it just gets better,so good that I have sold all of my old gear including my beloved twin trace stacks from when I had my deal back in the day. I may have to buy another s12 to have a 'rest of life' back up. It is the best Ive encountered in my career.
  5. its the ancient GK 400 from'89 so no bi amp and rated at 200 watts @ 4 ohms. The watts thing means nothing as we've all come to realise. The barefaced super 12 is the standard 4 ohm cab with no tweeter, its just a lovely thing. Its made me stop chasing the 'magic rig' thats been eluding me for 32 years. The Gk sounds just perfect through it.Im smitten.
  6. [quote name='PlungerModerno' timestamp='1352385728' post='1862425'] If it works . . . The S12 is pretty sensitive: 102 dB calculated as 'broadband': http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/super-twelve.htm So to run out of headroom means the amp is not delivering enough power at 4 ohms. 250W of TC vs. the 375? of the traditional GK head - I'm not aware if it's the same output as the 400rb-iv, or indeed if your S12 has bi-amping wiring (or if it's a S12T). 7. the bf is 4 ohm so no issues,it was always loud enough at 8 ohms anyway. cant believe the quality of sound with the bf cab,its the dogs
  8. yes, gigged one with barefaced super 12 and sadly just wasnt quite loud enough at gig level, also once you try to get it loud and punchy, all dynamics disappear and there is no headroom. I also tried it with my 4x10/1x15 rig and still not loud enough. Back to GK 400rb '89 vintage!
  9. Yes! I darenot add up the thousands Ive spent in the last few years on the latest stuff thinking it would be the 'one':Ampeg,Aguilar,DrBass,Markbass,Philjones, tcectronic blah blah blah, everything! This cab has changed my life. In 32 years of gigging Ive stopped ever playing at home but I have to confess that Iveplugged in and blasted in the living room. I feel like a kid again.Great!!!
  10. just done 14 gigs on the trot with my brand new cab. the wait was excruciating to say the least but the cab is beyond anything i could have hoped for. tried it with brand new tcelectronic bh250 tonepri:ok but not enough punch or dynamics at gig volume, typical digital amp really, save your money. plugged my gk400rb '89 vimtage and wow just perfect, the sound was just pure class:geddy, foxton, squire type tone was what i was after and i was not disappointed. truly the last cab i will buy, massive sounding bass, clear punchy mids and top is excellent. paired with my old precision and a new set of rotos im in heaven!
