1.
I can't for one minute see how you can jump to that conclusion from the four words that I wrote.
Really ? Perhaps I'm just over-sensitive.
Reverse log pots are exactly that, a reverse log scale. Also known as Anti-log. I believe John uses them so he will know where to source one which was Joe's original question I believe.
Which is pretty much what I was saying, to the best of my knowledge the easiest way to achieve this is to wire a log pot backwards... Or am I missing something ? Probably.
  2.
Joe, Ask John East.
So you're saying my information and advice is no use then...?
  3.
Thank you for your kind offer. It's on a bill of materials for a project I'm doing. I'll email the person who originated the BOM and ask for clarification EDIT: It should be marked as c1M, I think.
Got a couple put aside: They're A1M - A = log, 1M = 1Meg. Never (in 20-odd years of working in electronics) heard of a C1M. B1M would be linear. Still don't know what this 'rev' thing is about - if you want to reverse the action of a pot, you wire it differently. Anyhoo, if you want one (or two) let me know - i'll stick 'em in the post.
  4.
1M Reverse Log . . . . I think?
I'm happy to send you what i've got. Not convinced about the 'reverse' bit though ...
  5.
Can any of you good folk help me source a 1M Rev Log pot - ideally 16mm Alpha? Ta.
I've probably got some in a drawer in my workshop. Not sure about the 'rev' bit though... Can I ask what it's for ?
  6.
Depends on how linear the pot is. Whilst the pot is at 80% of maximum it doesn't mean the output of the head is. The output could be at 10% or 99%, turning the pot to max might make sod all difference. Besides - the ABM volume control only rotates between 7 and 5 o' clock positions.
Depends on the input level too. If that needle ain't hitting the red every so often and only lurking in the -10db area - TURN IT UP !!!!!
  7. Changing the pickup on my P-Bass I came across this weird little cavity under the scratchplate. Any ideas ?
  8.
didn't Stevie Ray Vaughan play on Diamond Dogs?
No, he played on 'Let's Dance'.
  9.
Hi guys hopin someone may shed light on a problem... going on a small tour next week had rehersal yestaday was playing and then started to stuggle to hear my amp. I have an ashdown ABMEVOII rack mounted head running with an ashdown 4x10 cab. i have power in the head although in order to hear anything both the input and output are at the 3 o'clock position... now normally that should blow the room im in apart!! but my guitarist was quite happily listiening to the cab to see if the speakers were workin...Ive changed leads changed speakons and its still the same... any ideas on what it could be coz im panicking now... thanks Jimmy x
If you're having to crank the input AND the output levels, it suggests to me the problem is external i.e. before the amp. Have you tried another bass ?

    Pups
Hi folks I read with interest you guys changing the pups in p basses does it make lots of difference that would be unobtainable through eq? Is the any good sound clips to compare the sound? I have a 98 mia p bass to play classic rock and would like to keep it original looking at least is this possible? And is it easy to change the pups, I would like a bit more thump/thud! Thanks for reading Eddy
Eddy, you play classic rock (as do I) you've got a late 90's P-Bass (me too). Stick with it. If that's your setup in your avatar - that Trace rig has more than enough EQ tweakability to get the sound you want. Don't waste your money. As it happens, I'm changing the pickup on my P-Bass but only because it died.
  11. Bought an Epiphone Thunderbird about a year ago as a 'backup' for my US Standard P-Bass. Cost me £200. Unfortunately, it pisses on the £800 Precision from a great height. Not so 'crap' then... You live and learn.
  12. Ashdown Lomenzo Hyper Drive for me. Awesome pedal. Have to echo what Phatbass787 said. Used mine the other night purely to boost the output of my flagging p-bass pickup. Incredibly versatile - I have spent hours playing with it (ooh-er) ! May have to get another one (or two).
  13.
To completely bypass the volume control (and tone control) you'd need to remove ALL connections from the jack socket, then solder the "hot" directly from the pickup to the "tip" connector on the jack socket and the "cold" (or earth) from the pickup directlt to the "sleeve" of the jack socket. If you leave any other wires connected to the jack socket it's possible the controls would still be connected in parallel and would still have an effect on the sound.
Thanks BOD2, I went back and checked what I'd done and sure enough, I'd missed a couple of connections. Never fiddle about with your bass when you've had a few beers ! The upshot is : I've now got a much-improved sound but the output is still very low. So I guess my pickup is shot.
  14.
About 10.5k I believe.
You're right Musky, and that's exactly what my multimeter tells me. Wiring is OK but there's something funny going on with the volume pot - it doesn't short when full on. So I thought 'I'll bypass it, I don't use it anyway'. Did that help ? Did it F##K. I've bypassed the volume control and IT STILL WORKS. This is some kind of witchcraft. I give up.
  15. Thanks for that guys. Gonna rip the thing to bits today and see if I can get to the bottom of this. Anybody know what the DC resistance of the pickup should be ?
  16.
If it's a passive Precision, check your amp and cable, then your bass. Chris
Yep, done that - in that order. Just realised I posted this in the wrong forum, oops...
  17. All of a sudden am having to use TWICE as much front end gain on my amp as I used to. It's a '99 US Precision. Strings are new, pickup height is cock-on and have checked out the electronics too... Nothing broken, nothing dirty. I like to think I'm pretty good at maintaining my own gear, but this has got me beat. It sounds fine, in fact it sounds great, but the disparity in signal level with my other bass makes it difficult to change basses mid-gig ! Am I missing something ?
  18. I use an Ashdown Mini 48 (4x8). Don't know how much it weighs (not a lot). 600 watts. Produces almost too much bass for me. Fits nicely into the wife's Nissan Micra too.
  19.
Our gig on Friday was brilliant.
Ours wasn't but we got paid anyway...
  20. 42 years old. Picked up my first bass in 1981. Have also played guitar on and off during that time (gave that up because I couldn't be arsed to play note-for-note solos - far too lazy). Play Rock of the classic variety (nothing after 1979). Doing rather nicely - no need for a 'proper' job.
  21.
evenin' and welcome, Spider. It appears when entering 'uk bass forum'. I don't think it used to, though.
Funnily enough, someone just mentioned it... " you play Bass don't you ? You been on that Basschat ?" Nice to find somewhere that isn't HC or TB. Thanks for the welcome.
  22.
So how do the Little Giant heads work then? I heard mention of bi-amping in regards to these, but have no idea what that means. Presumably you have to run it through 2cabs to get full whack out of it?
The 350 works just like any other amp - single power stage delivering 350 watts into 4 ohms. The 1000 works like the superfly (you'll need two 4 ohm cabs or four 8 ohm cabs etc.) to get full power. Hope that helps...
  23. Hello all. New to this forum, came across it quite by accident. Cheers. Spider.
