1. Yeah but it would be the same if you did it in another 50 years. They'd be big songs now, but would probably be relatively unknown in 2069.
2. Music is just as subjective as any art is, so no, it's not getting worse.
3. How can a guitar be unsafe in anyway that isn't an easy fix? The only thing I can think is electricity, but the electrics in a guitar are quite simple. Even in a fairly complex electronics heavy guitar like the Firebird X, surely they could have sorted it?
4. I don't have much sense, but luckily I don't have much money either. Limits the damage somewhat!
5. I've not done a lot of gigging, just a few pub gigs really. I'm very introverted, but I never minded playing in front of people - as the bassist I felt fairly 'hidden' in a way (even though the music we played had fairly prominent bass parts). I just find I don't have the energy for it now, I'm usually in bed before you might even start playing at a gig! Writing and recording is definitely the part of being in a band I enjoyed the most.
6. I'm sure we'd never catch you whinging about anything...
7. I must say I was really impressed with Two Door Cinema Club as well. Really enjoyed the whole set, knew more than I realised and liked the stuff I didn't know.
8. I'm a lefty. I originally started with a right handed guitar, and found it very slow to get anywhere. I got a left handed guitar after a while, and it felt much more comfortable, and I learnt a lot quicker. I do almost everything left handed, except using a mouse, and I think I use a knife and fork the right handed way. My brother writes left handed, but does a lot of stuff (including playing guitar/bass) right handed. Unfortunately I don't seem to have got the creative aspect of being left handed, despite how dominant my left hand is. I can play a right handed bass upside down pretty well though (well, not a lot worse than I can play a left handed bass, which isn't much above average). It's a bit of a 'party trick'.
9. The Black Angels are named after the Doors 'Black Angels Death Song'.
10. I like Muse quite a bit (although not as much as I used to), and every now and then I sort of focus in on the gasping and it's all I can focus on.
11. I find Tame Impala very summery.
12. Someone mentioned Juan Alderete in the Mars Volta, some excellent bass work there. Placebo quite a bit in their earlier (better) stuff. Interpol sometimes. I like upper register melodic bass stuff a lot, I play there quite a bit.
13. I saw Arcade Fire earlier in the month. Was a fantastic show, good sound, the stage was in the middle and they kept moving around it which worked really well in my opinion.
14. I saw Arcade Fire in Manchester on the 8th, so I've been listening to them a hell of a lot lately. They're fantastic live, put on a great show.
15. Ah fair enough. They said they had one online, I assumed it would be on display!
16. What do you think of the 0-Coast? I've been looking at a few of these semi-modular sort of synths, the Mother-32, 0-COast, Plankton Ants! and the Dreadbox Nyx and Erebus.
17. Funnily enough, I'd looked earlier in the week and they said they had the Mother-32 in Bristol, and I was in there Saturday and couldn't find it anywhere, now I know why!
18. I thought about some kind of modern/portable Ondes Martenot (I'm strangely fascinated with these instruments), maybe one that you war like a guitar and play. Any thoughts?
19.
A decent bass wah that works at a number of switchable frequencies, with a range of sweeps etc comparable to the best envelope followers including auto and manual at the same time. And with no annoying mechanical/electrical crackles that develop over time!
That does sound suitably difficult/high level! I'll have a look at that!
20. Honestly, I don't mind. In terms of hardware I was thinking things like the b-blender or hipshot d tuner, but obviously I'd have to improve them somehow or make something new. Electrical wise could be pickups or stuff like that. The only thing I don't have any clue about is digital stuff and programming and things.
21. Hello, For my engineering apprenticeship HNC I have to do a project where I design and possibly make something and then present it at the end of the year. I was thinking of doing something music related, possibly a synth or effects pedal or something, but I'm not sure it really solves a problem like a lot of other peoples seem to. Are there any ideas people have, or problems they have, I could look into? Could be electrical or more mechanical/hardware related. Just any ideas at this point would be good.
22. Yeah Myxomatosis, incredible bass tone there too. And Graham, those Tool ones are freaking cool.
23. What's your favourite use of bass effects in existing songs? I could find a huge list of mine, but I think number one for me has to be Colin Greenwoods fuzz bass line in Exit Music. It's only in the last third of so of the song but it's a fantastic, stupidly fuzzy tone.
24. Let us know what you think of it when it arrives!
