  1. I was also there on Friday. My first Roses show although I did catch a couple of Ian Brown's solo tours about 10 years ago. It was a great gig and the vibe walking back to the tube station afterwards was terrific.
  2. We have a very relaxed approach and try to make our own version of the song which generally means keping 80-90% of the original and changing or embellishing where we see fit so it's more about the feel of the song that the exact notes played on the original. What makes it fun is that some of the songs that we cover are in fact covers and not originals, for instance we do "99 red balloons" but base it on the Goldfinger version and not Nena's.
  3. I picked up a MAG 300 2x10 combo on ebay 3 years ago and still run it with a 1x15 cab as my main rig, very pleased with it
  4. I use the MXR M87, and just leave it on moderate settings to clean things up a bit
  5. Hi Scott, I hadn't seen your website before but have now spent some time browsing it and subscribed. That's good work you are doing, thanks very much for making it available to us. Cheers, Wurz
  6. Hi Joel, Nothing much to add to the thread as the other guys have already covered everything I would raise. If your editorial style is anything like the style of your books ('tallica, slayer) then you will give BGM a good kick up the arse. Respect for sticking your head above the parapet.
  7. I started playing bass in exactly the same way as you, the first time was banging away endless amounts of open E in a metal band at their weekly rehearals following a drunken conversation a couple of days before. I learnt how to blag my way through their setlist and am certain that what I played was nothing like the original recordings but it fitted. A few books were purchased and a couple of chapters read before they were put down for being too boring, endless internet searches for sites giving free bass lessons were made and some knowledge was gained. 3 years late my style of play has change totally and I had my first lesson about 8 weeks ago. This has led to more melodic noodling around. And all this started on the wrong side of 40. Confidence has been a major stumbling block at times with a big fear of band mates thinking that I'm not really a musician and just someone who is blagging it - but that is only MY perception. The reason for sharing this is so that you know that there are others of us in the bass playing community who struggle and sometimes it feels like pushing water uphill but keep at it. Yes it does get demoralising at times but all the hard work does eventually pay off.
  8. Hello, I've just joined the forum today so am a newbie on here as well. Lot's of information and help on here if you are new to the bass journey so have fun
  9. Cheers Mr Tractor No complaints about the parking but don't get me started on sea kayaks getting in the way when I'm surfing grrrr ;-)
  10. I've been using one of these combos along with a 115 cab for a couple of years since I picked it up second hand on ebay. Initially I was using it in a metal band playing a mixture of Metallica & Motorhead songs which it handled well with my sound being sat in the mix. In the current band which plays with more of a Green Day, Wildhearts and Sublime type of vibe my bass is a bit more prominent and again this amp does what it's supposed to. With regards to the sub harmonic feature, I don't notice much of a difference other than comments from some of the guys in the band praising the sound when it is engaged but not noticing when it isn't. Make of that what you will.
  11. Hello, I've just joined the forum so will introduce myself. I'm living in Runcorn and keep the low end together for The Hedgehogz in Macclesfield. My main bass is a Dean Vendetta and I also have a Cort Action and play them through an Ashdown MAG300. Cheers, Wurz
