1. Would you recommend the it to someone who is aiming to play fast/progressive stuff despite it's neck?
2. Just curious, how much is this costing?
3. Never bought a bass from a smokers home but I did buy a mobile phone once and was genuinely surprised when I opened the package and it reeked of stale smoke. Luckily I didn't have to use it for long but the thought of buying a used bass from a smokers home turns my stomach. Very rarely do people buy basses that don't sound nice or look good, so I don't think people should have to put up with one that doesn't smell good.
4. I can only chip in by giving you my experience of the Canon Powershot range and say that they are great camcorders (as far as compact digital cameras are concerned). So i'd urge you to take a look at what Canon has to offer.
5. I gotta echo what allighatt0r said. Beware of the guitar tutor who teaches bass . I had one, was taught some great tunes such as Crazy Train and Vertigo by U2. Needless to say I found a bass teacher here off Basschat who is brilliant, so keep up the search.
6. I see it as the responsibility of the manufacturer (in this case, Ernie Ball) to be as fair trade as possible. I know it often means higher prices, but at the end of the day it's the quality of the product (in the case of bass strings, at least) that draw their customers to buy it.
7. I thought i'd chip in with a little anecdote on the subject. In July 2010 I bought a 'new' Ibanez BTB 475 for £400 from PMT Birmingham. I got £50 off because it had a paint chip at the base of the neck which was actually only visible if you looked for it. So I was happy, for a while . I didn't actually play it much for the first few months, but then towards the winter I started to play it and noticed an earthing problem. I took it in, they took it off me on the same day and said they'd send it off for repair. A month later (after being told 1-2 weeks) it arrived back. I got it home, got it out and found it had the same problem. So a couple of months later (around June time) I took it in and, again, they took it off me and said 1-2 weeks. So a month later.. I got it back. I was happy for a while but then when I unzipped it out of its bag once I got it home (I should have checked it at the store but I was reassured by the guy handing it to me that it seemed fine). It had a really deep chip on the bottom edge of the body. Now, this is a really really glossy bass and the chip went all the way through to the wood. And it wasn't one chip, it was about 4 or 5 small chips in a line. So, obviously, I took it back to see what was up. Now when I took it back it was towards the end of July 2011. Turns out that it got damaged by a courier on the way to the repair place and the repair place didn't mention it until quizzed about it, which meant a claim couldn't be sorted (because the time had passed). Anyway, fast forward to today.. I STILL don't have a new bass. Yep, it's been almost 6 months. I don't 100% blame PMT for this, and I have been chasing it up constantly, but they are at least a bit to blame for the long wait. It would take too long to explain what has been going on but needless to say, PMT were f***ing around for a bit and my bass got lost at another store for like 2-3 months which it shouldn't have. So would I recommend PMT? Well for me, I buy from the cheapest place and PMT has always been on par with its competitors (at least for the items I want). And despite all this mucking around, I would still use them again.
8. Free bump. Still having lessons and learning a lot! And more importantly enjoying them a lot.
9.
That sounds like it should just be the earthing
Well, when he explained that there was a thump from tapping it, I had a similar problem when tapping the screws on the pickup. Whether it was earthing or not, the problem persisted with mine. By the way, wonderful looking bass for that kind of money.
10. Just thought i'd chip in, even though you've 'resolved' the problem. My previous bass, Ibanez BTB 475 had a similar problem. The neck pickup was fine but the bridge one, while sounding normal, had a buzzing sound when touching anything metal on the bass. So basically, if I had the bridge pickup set to full, touching the strings caused a buzz. I sent mine off for repair 3 times (and wasn't fixed on all 3 occasions). Needless to say, they have a '3 strikes and you're out' policy and i'm currently waiting for a replacement one to arrive in my hands.
11.
I recently bought 4 of these for the Studio.... £29 each http://www.ikea.com/...ducts/50133762/
I own one of these as well. I weigh 15 stone and they hurt the old backside a bit for over two hours of sitting and playing.
12. Selling a pack of D'Addario "Super Bright Round Wound" ProSteels. They are Long Scale, for 5 string basses and are standard gauge. As the title says, i'm selling for £15, shipping included. (they cost me £18 + shipping) Bought them about 6 months back in preparation for receiving a bass I never received, so they are useless to me now! I accept PayPal only.
13.
+1 for the extra £95 will be well worth it
If I had a cash refund, i'd probably already have it in my hands.
14. Well i've only been learning a few months, but i'll certainly flood the forum with pics once I get it.
15. Just noticed this topic got bumped. I actually got (or am going to get, in the near future) a great deal on the new, not-yet-released Ibanez BTB 575. (The bass is shown on the USA Ibanez site though) It's apparently being released at NAMM later this month, in America. Or at least that was the information from the rep of the place that distributes Ibanez's within the UK. I also got put through a lot of bulls**t (to be specific, my bass got sent off for repairs 5 months ago and I have just got a credit refund for it) so they're trying their best to get it to me even earlier than is available to most people, and for a lot cheaper too (around £399)! But thank you for all the recommendations, I checked them all out before finally being offered the above by the nice guys at PMT.
16. I can't offer anything truly insightful but it sounded good and I liked it. And if you wanted to do any nice HD recordings, just say and you can borrow my digital camera!
17. If I got given a cash refund and not store credit from PMT for my broken bass, I can assure you, I would steal this off you in a second ('cause for that price, it really is a steal ). Have a free bump!
18. Funny you should mention that actually, my previous bass was a very tasty Ibanez BTB 475. I don't suppose anyone knows if the new Ibanez 575s are currently with us here in the UK? Thanks for the tips about Peaveys. I also had my eye on a couple of Schecters. I going to to push for a mega bargain so well see what I manage to get.
19. Unfortunately I have to buy new! I basically had 4 months of bullshit with PMT (not their fault) and because that was where I bought it from I just got a credit note instead. I can spend about £500 in total. To give you an idea, I was looking at the Ibanez SR505, but wasn't keen on the 34" scale.
20. Hello! I'm currently in the market for a bass with the specs you see in the title. My previous bass was an Ibanez BTB475. I absolutely loved the thing but it had a lot of problems so I had to get my money back. I've tried a plethora of 34" scale basses and can tell the difference. So I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Unfortunately they can't be used as I'll be having it ordered in. Cheers!
21. I've read all the replies and just want to say thank you to everyone. If I were to use just two fingers, are there any other techniques I can use to get speed up apart from just practicing with a metronome?
22. I play power-inspired metal. Mainly chugging single notes at speed is my problem. Not the speed part exactly, but switching strings to play different notes. Or at really high speeds, just switching to any other note at the right time can be a problem when I play with 3 fingers. I have been playing for about 2 or 3 months now and my two finger style and speed is pretty good I feel. I have no problems there really. But i'm at the point now where using two fingers for the speed of notes I want to play is just not optimal. So it's either 3 or or a plectrum! I'll take your suggestion and start off slow and work my way up.
23. Thank you velvetkevorkian, that's the kind of reply I was looking for. Really, all I wanted was someone to say 'Yeah, it's possible, i've done it!'. And i'm aware that people aren't a fan of the three finger technique, which is understandable, but for the music I play it's a hindrance if I don't learn to use three fingers or get a fast plectrum technique.
24. Hello Basschat! I'm quite the beginner bassist, but am starting from the ground up and trying to cover all techniques. I do have a bass teacher and he's great but i'm currently having trouble with a personal decision over my technique. I find it difficult playing single notes at a high speed. If I use 2 fingers, I can't do it fast enough, but at least I know I end on the same finger every time. If I use a pick, I feel bad because I know that if I put the effort in I could become great with 3 fingers, but at least i'm always finishing on an upstroke. Now my dilemma is if I attempt to use 3 fingers, I find it hard to keep track of what note within the bar i'm currently playing. Finishing a stroke on a different finger at the end of every bar puts me off and I get confused and want advice on if this is just a barrier that I can't break and how I can help myself get used to it. Or if it's just something that will come with practice. Thanks.
25. Perhaps just upload them to imageshack.us or another image hosting site and paste the links here.
