Hi, I wondered if anyone has experience of these basses and can tell me where they sit in terms of tone and playability compared with a Precision (which I have) and a Jazz (which I had). They seem to be discontinued and hard to get hold of, and an original would be out of my budget. I just fancy one to be honest, I play in a 60s band amongst other things? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I've got one of these. Previously owned a Gibson model and this knocks spots off it. Lovely build quality and well balanced, great variety of tone too. GLWTS.

Right, this has to go, it's taking up space I haven't got. Price reduced by a further £45 to £350. A new Gen 3 Big Baby, which is the nearest equivalent, is £779. Less than half price! 

I don't have the original packaging. I don't feel confident I could wrap it proficiently from what i've got available. I don't trust couriers!

Extract from spec here: The magic is inside the box - a full 2-way crossover, akin to that found in the very best studio monitors, which splits the sound between the two speakers, so each speaker can concentrate on doing what it does best. No other crossover found in a bass guitar cab has this complex topology, with very steep slopes so it is all but impossible to overpower the midrange driver, so that you get no interference between drivers either side of the crossover point, and so that you get the most accurate and realistic sound whether you're the bassist, a bandmate or a fan.

It must have been one of those urban myths. I can't find anything to support the theory, thanks for clearing that up for me!

Brilliant clip! Wasn't this band put together by Paul Morley to prove that hit music could be "manufactured"? Opened the floodgates.

PRICE REDUCED FROM £450 to £395.

For sale is my Big Baby T bought used on here about five years ago and used by me for live work together with a BB Gen 3 (now sold). It has had the benefit of a Roqsolid cover (included in the sale) and is in good cosmetic condition as I've tried to show in the photos. All feet and corner reinforcements present, no dings or scrapes, works perfectly. I replaced the original carrying handle which was covered with a rubber sleeve which disintegrated.

I live in Romiley near Stockport. I haven't got the original packaging so don't really want to get involved in couriering. I would be willing to drive a sensible distance to meet up. No trades thanks as this has already been replaced by a Super Midget. Any questions just fire away?

I got the latch from the States. It cost about £14 and the same again in postage and only took about a week.

Now I can't figure how to remove the inlay which protects the bass in its case to access the screws which hold the handle in place! I've emailed SKB and they say you just have to prise it out, it's held with a bit of glue! I'll let you know how I get on!

Hey Pineweasel, I had a look and I would say that the exact part I need is listed. It's a handle attached to a locking latch, I just need to make sure it's the same dimensions and figure out how to remove it and install the new one. Thanks very much!

My 2010 Fender American Standard Precision came in one of those moulded plastic (I'm sure it's a much posher description really) hard cases. Last week part of the housing which one end of the carry handle slots into snapped off, so I now can't carry it using said handle. Does anybody know if Fender do spares for their cases or is it a case of bodge, or buy a replacement? All I can find on the Fender site is basses. Thanks.

Well you learn something every day!  Thank you Bill for this insight, I hadn't appreciated the difference between the straight outputs and the bridged mode. I will rearrange the configuration accordingly.

Honestly, just when I think I've got my head round this impedance thing something gets said which makes me doubt myself. I've just put a head in for investigation/repair at a leading tech shop in the UK, I won't say which. When it came back from repair I tried it and it failed again. They took it back again and put it on test and can't find anything wrong. They've had it on load test for a week and it's fine. But that's beside the (this) point. Because the tech himself couldn't find a fault, he thought it may be the way I'm deploying my amp which is making it cut out. So he asked how my set up worked. So I explained it's a head with two channels, each of 8 ohms/500 watts, or a third bridged channel at 4 ohms/1,000 watts. I use the bridged option with two 8 ohm cabinets daisy chained. That's 4 ohms, right? He thinks it's 16 ohms? Am I right or have I just embarrassed myself again?

I've got one of these which I've used on all my gigs for the last few months while trying to get my Tecamp 1000 repaired (now done). It's a cracking head and amazingly powerful for it's size, I put it through 2 x Barefaced BB2s and never had to have it over halfway, even not going through the PA. GLWTS. 

I have one of these. Brilliant. Tiny, simple to use EQ, huge sound. Bump for a great amp.

Thanks. I've since played it through my stage amp (up to now I'd been playing it through a PJB Briefcase) with a Barefaced cab and it is absolutely.....well.....thunderous! Got a small gig tonight so will see how it sits in the mix. Once I get new strings on it as well the tone will change again. Might not make any changes in a hurry!

I recently acquired an Epiphone Thunderbird IV Pro for quite reasonable money and would like to see if I can get a better tone from it. Better of course is very subjective.

Let me give you a brief history. I had a Gibson TBird years ago and found it had quite a muddy tone. I was used to Fenders and Rickenbackers. Recently I got GAS for another one but was put off by the price. I read that the Epiphone Pro IVs were very good so I thought I'd take a chance and just buy it, it wasn't local so I didn't have chance to play it.

It's now arrived, but the strings are very tired so it's not fair to judge it just yet, I've ordered a set of Elixirs which I have on all my other basses.

So my basic thinking is I'd like to look into upgrading the pups. I did think about upgrading the other hardware to the old fashioned chrome tuners and a chrome bridge, but I thought I'd wait until the latest Epi TBird is available first. If they've sorted the pups it will be awesome.

Does anybody have any experience of swapping their pups on an Epi and what did you use?

Thanks. The one I got was the new design with through neck and I never got to "wear" it as the neck had been so badly damaged in transit I daren't even try to tune it! The strap nut was by the heel of the neck, the same as the one in the link. I've seen photos of the new Vintage Pro and that has the nut in the same place. I've heard some demos of the VP and for me it sounds a bit "overdriven" (unless it's the rig), so I'm hoping the Classic IV is a bit more refined. I had a Gibson Thunderbird years ago and it was really "thuddy" (think I just invented that word lol), poor sustain, and terrible neck dive. Looked really cool though! I've heard these Epi's are just as good as the new Gibsons. 

Hmmm, just returned one to gear4music as it arrived with a damaged neck! Just waiting on refund. I note that this one has the strap button behind the neck, whereas I have seen other photos of new models with the strap button on the top wing of the body? Does anybody know why/which is preferable? Bradford isn't too far away from me.
