  1. Look for YouTube videos of a drummer called Dan Caro. If this guy doesn't say its all about making music despite limitations, then I don't think anyone can. Given your physical limitations, which I share to a degree (plus my own combination of ailments), finding ways to still play a musical instrument is key to fulfilling the need to 'make' music. And I don't mean just sitting in front of a computer pasting samples together! Just play your bass anyway you need to to express what's inside. Simple. I don't often post my thoughts as they tend to stir too much emotion and flaming etc in fellow forum users. However, this is an easy topic to tackle in many respects. And 'respect' is a key word. Cheers Rob.

  3. Below is feedback from rockdog......pasted from a duplicate thread:- Recently sold an Ibanez SR900 to tobythedog and am happy to report that it was an easy transaction; I would be very happy to deal with him again.
  4. Hi, just to leave some feedback for rockdog. I've just bought an Ibanez SR900 from him and the transaction went very well. Good communication throughout and delivered as promised. The bass is exactly as described and I couldn't be more pleased with it. Deal with rockdog in total confidence. Cheers, Rob.
  5. Cheers guys, I'll certainly upload pics of my home builds when I get around to it. I'll also put some self composed and played material on here for you to listen to and comment on. Amazingly in the office where I work there are 4 bassists (including myself) who also play guitar, and a guitarist. There's only 17 in the section! But for some reason none of them want to jam with me, so I've given up asking them. I've put adds on line and also check forums etc in the hope of finding musos to form a band with. Sadly I've drawn a blank on this avenue too. Anyway atleast being a one man outfit allows me to do everything my way and in my timeframe without putting up with the politics and bulls**t that comes with bands in general. The downside is that it gets lonely and a bit boring at times. The biggest problem is not having anyone to bounce ideas off......I might like something but without critical feedback its easy to write a load of crock! I'd certainly love to collaborated with others and considering recording technology and internet access I see no reason why I can't collaborate with anyone from almost anywhere in the world. What a fascinating project that would be? Cheers, Rob aka Toby
  6. Hi folks, I've been lurking on Basschat and buying gear etc for a few months now so It's about time I introduced myself. I started out playing the cornet aged nine, then moved onto flugal horn around twelve. I played in Liverpool Schools Junior and Senior Brass Bands. Although I enjoyed it I really wanted to be in the Jazz Orchestra, preferably on bass, even though at that time I hadn't played one lol. I inhereted my late fathers cheap, old and abused f hole acoustic guitar and played that as well as I could given its poor playability. Roll on to age sixteen and I started a band with some friends from the sixth form. I bought a Westone Spectrum with first pay cheque as I was on lead guitar at the time. The band took up a good portion of my free time but nothing came of it. Roll on to the present and I'm purely a bedroom warrior, albeit in the smallest bedroom named " The Din". I jam along to cd's etc but mostly improvise over the top. I play bass, guitar, drums and synth as the mood takes me. I have a good collection of gear and record any original ideas that have any promise. I also repair and rebuild any bass or guitar that is in need of it. For a long time I've also designed guitars and basses as being a draughtsman and design engineer by trade I have all the skills necessary for this. One day I'll show you what I've built but I need to get over my shyness in showing musicians my creations lol. I would love to play and record original music with like minded nutters but I can't seem to find anyone in to the same genres and with the same passion and drive etc. Anyway that's enough for now! Cheers, Rob.

  12. Hi folks, I've just bought an Ibanez SRX705 from Nik (silverfoxnik) so it's feedback time. Nik's a delight to deal with in every way and I have no hesitation buying from him again. Excellent communication throughout and the bass arrived safe and sound within the arranged time. The SRX705 is in as new condition so I couldn't be more pleased with my new toy. This is my first dealings with Basschat and if Nik is representative of its members then what a great place to hang out. Nik you're a star my friend. Cheers Rob (tobythedog)
  13. Ok I've held off for as long as I can. If this bass is still available I'll buy it? PM me with your contact details so I can get a cheque off to you. Postage wise I'm in Runcorn, Cheshire. Cheers Rob
