1. Just dug out my copy of Sad wings of destiny by Judas Priest, one of my favourite albums in the late '70's. Haven't heard it for years, I still love it.
2.
Do strings need to pass over the 'middle' of the pole pieces ? None of my jazz basses have this and I've not heard any obvious effect.
To be honest, for me it is as much about the look (OCD element?) as I also couldn't hear any difference. As I said, the position over the pups is more noticeable than which notch on the saddle...
3. Just measured the spacing on my 4 string. I set it so each string is as close as possible to the centre of the pick up pole pieces. The spaces are: E-21mm-A-20mm-D-20mm-G. This is very natural for me, and as far as any OCD is concerned, for me the position of the strings over the pups is far more noticeable than which notch on the saddle.
4. Thanks guys! I The bass has some sentimental value, so very pleased to hear it should be repairable.
5. Hi guys. Just wondered if you can help me. I have a Fender MIM Jazz bass V (5 in a row tuners not 4+1), and it got knocked off its stand onto a ceramic tiled floor at a jam session. It landed on the B string tuner, bending it. I have also noticed that the headstock has cracked from the small screw hole holding the tuner out to the edge of the headstock I have ringed the area of the crack in the photo. The crack doesn't seem to go the whole depth of the headstock. Anyway, my question is: can this be repaired economically, or is the neck firewood? Many thanks for any advice you can offer.
6. Cheers for the help. There are no obvious signs, ie wire broken or bad soldered joints. I will try and borrow a multimeter and see. I had to replace the mid boost pot the other week, as the center spindle litterally fell out whilst I was playing!!!! - not impressed
7. Hi guys, I have a 2007 Am deluxe Jazz bass, and the stacked pot for Bass boost and Treble boost doesn't seem to make any noticable difference when I adjust these. The seperate pot for mid boosr certainly makes a load of difference. How much variation should be heard, and how can I check the pot is working correctly? (I'm a relative newbie, and it's my 1st active bass, and to be honest, have left the settings in the heutral position, and set the tone at the amp up to now...). Hope this isn't a too silly question...
8. Thanks for the welcome guys! Thought I'd share a pic of my P&J with you. It's a 2007 Fender American Deluxe Jazz. Phil
9. Hello all, When i originally registered with the forum, I was living in Stratford upon Avon, but have now moved to Germany. I am a relative noobie to the bass, having made several false starts (including because of the move to Germany), but this time I am determined to crack it (it was one of my big wishes to play bass in my youth, but already had loads of other commitments, so it never really happened ). I already have loads of questions, but won't bug you with them all straight away. Anyway, look forward to chatting with you. cheers bodmin
