  1. Id choose the peavey. I really like Ashdown amps but I think some of the old MAG's can sound a little soft. As that ones been altered, I wouldn't be comfortable with it
  2. I bought the head new in 07, but its an 05 EVO II 300. Cab is the LB212.....I think its from 2011?
  3. Had this for ages - always does the job!
  4. Hi- Got a gig coming up that's a really basic corner of a small pub set up, with only vocals thru the PA -we are a 3 piece drums/bass/one guitar.....have played there once before and there's a house amp there, old carlsboro 100watt ish 1x15 combo looked awful but surprisingly sounded pretty good.....didnt need to be up that high on the volume control and did the job fine - our drummer isn't crazy loud. Thinking about lugging (literally) my new small setup down to try it out this time - bought it over lockdown and its not yet left the house. TC BQ250 head into a new Ashdown Rm-112t EVOII, has anyone on the forum gigged one of these cabs in a similar setup and was it loud enough? Ive played the TC head thru 4x10s in rehearsals rooms and it sounds more than decent....its the capability of the cabinet that's got me wondering. Ive blasted it a bit at home and this 12" appears to be able to move some serious air for its size and rating.....much more so than the fender rumble 100 it replaced which couldnt keep up with a tiny drum set without sounding like the speaker was about to jump out of the cab. Cheers
  5. Hi all, Anyone own/ have any experience with the TC BQ250? Situation: My real amp is an Ashdown ABM evo II 300 with a 2x12 cab, love it - but its a powerful beast and for practicing at home it sounds pretty bad turned down real low....I also have a Fender rumble 100 combo, which whilst nice and portable etc etc sounds pretty boxy and muddy to me regardless of how much I tweak it........so I only use it for carrying on the bus/train to jams, for that purpose it's fine. ....However I also own an Ashdown 2x10 "rootmaster" cab i picked up secondhand for about 40 quid, much more manageable at home - but looking for a small lightweight head to go with it, would be nice to have spare for gigs, as well as something for home use with not so much fan noise as the ashdown etc etc Also looking at the markbass blackline 250 and ampeg PF350 but those are a fair bit more cash for an "extra" head. Cheers Owen
  6. Unless its changed on the newer ABM's (I have an EVO II), with the DI set to post, all controls affect the signal out of the XLR socket apart from the master output volume - (that one only ever alters the volume coming out of your own speakers). If set to pre, only the input level control by the input socket, as well as the "shape" button, affect the signal. Hope that helps!
  7. I bought a Sunburst Harley Benton JB75, and returned it straight away - out of the box one of the pickups was set so high as to foul against the open strings. (easy fix, but didn't speak well of any quality control. The fret ends were literally as if the frets had been installed, clipped to size....and just left with zero finishing (suffice to say they were a just a little sharp!) and the body weighed so much that playing seated almost cut off the circulation to my right leg. This is not an exaggeration- the weight was extreme on the one i received.... Admittedly there are plenty of half decent examples out there, but I wouldn't ever bother looking at them again myself.
  8. They are honestly damn good! I recently got one of the v3 models (1st Gen)....its incredible value for money, and plays and sounds fantastic.Fit and finish good. Frets are perfect. Its light (8.8lbs).....There were a couple of dodgy looking solder joints on the wires to the jack (I always open up and look for stuff like this whenever i get a new instrument and can fix these things myself so no big deal for me although these issues shouldn't be present really) I usually play a 79' Precision or a Japan precision......and i could honestly play this sire all day no probs!....band likes it too. I Went to Andertons and played 4 of them, all played and sounded just as good as each other although there were random issues on some, poorly cut nuts or ill fitting knobs mainly. I would definitely suggest trying in person if possible.
  9. I have a ABM Evo II 300 head I bought new around 2007, mines the normal size - but I remember at that time there were "wide" versions of the 300 too, just as Merton pointed out above. I think I've seen the Mag heads in a wide format as well - I reckon a lot of the chassis designed for the combos ended up as heads at the factory?
  10. Thank you for the helpful replies! Yes mine was described as 300w online when I bought it, but has 100w penciled in on the jack plate - which itself is confusing as it claims the cab was part of the USA series.... I remember removing a speaker to check the wattage. Its certainly not a lightweight cab which was rather disappointing at the time, but its not too bad, seems lighter than the old chipboard carpet covered MAG's
  11. Hi there, Hopefully someone could help me with a quick technical question! I have an older Ashdown Evo II 300w head, which i used to use with a pair of MAG cabs. I sold those long ago and replaced them with a then new LB212 cab which I do believe are rather rare? Cab has never left the house but I am looking to use it live soon - as Ive never really run it up to a decent volume, i'm wondering if i'm "safe" using the ABM head with it, as the cab is 4ohm, with a pair of 150w speakers in it, so id be pumping the full 300w from the head into it. Would I be right in assuming its ok as long as Im not running the head at full volume (I can't see myself ever needing to do this) Cheers!

  13. Hi there! I have for sale a pair of older Ashdown MAG cabs: •1x15 deep cab, 200W 8ohms - Carpet covering with black grille. •2x10 deep cab, 200W 8ohms - Carpet covering with silver grille. Both are in good functional order and sound very good. The carpet and corners naturally have minor wear from use. The speakers are in perfect shape although the 2x10 unfortunatly has a blown tweeter which has been disconnected. (the tweeters on these don't sound very good in my opinion so its not too much of a loss ) Selling as I have upgraded to a single smaller, more upmarket Ashdown cab and no longer have the room to store! Asking £75 for the 1x15 and £65 for the 2x10, for pickup from London (NW5) Would love if these can go to a good home! Owen
