1.
Yep. Yamaha. Job done. Always my recommend to student of bass and guitar. Can not simply go wrong.
Yep - BB414 works well.
 2.
See, I told you $$$$ doesn't always make tone! For anyone who knows me, knows I have some unusual gear and some great stuff but on the other hand, I have learned, over the last 35 odd years that sometime you just come across something that works for you. Some very surprising basses!!!! I may draw up a list! Cheers.
Quite right too. Some basses just seem to 'fit' both physically and in terms of playing style and your own ability. I've always tried to throw money at things and it rarely works. I now have a cheap not-so JapCrap VOX now and it's sounds and feels great - I am practising like crazy again and see no reason to change for a while at least. Just never gelled with my old StingRay and never sounded as together as I did today on the JapCrap.

 4.
I got one of these as my first bass. Straight neck and a really low action's possible! Weighs a ton though. I have the same knobs on mine and they have, as far as I know, not been changed.
That's what I thought. If memory serves me right the knobs look original.
 5. Classic bass though. Difficult to destroy and great sounding - also a real bass for the price range at the time. I was a music shop nightmare at the time these were sold in the early eighties and wouldn't part with the £169.99 they wanted until I had tried everything else in every shop that would let me try anything. In that price range I thought it was the best looking and best sounding so I bought one and never regretted it - kept it until stolen. Bidding for one on eBay at the moment. ahhh - memories...
 6. Thanks guys. EAST ANGLIA BASS BASH sounds great. On the basis of my back to bassics I'm coming as that legend Brushy One String Forget all the gear no idea - He's no gear - all idea, What a hero!
 7. Looks like a great community with some interesting posts. I first picked up the bass in 1977 when I formed a punk band with some friends from school. The whole anti-musicianship vibe suited our playing style and at our only gig, which was supporting at the Marquee 'cos we knew someone, saw us plastic glassed off the stage. Haven't improved much since, but have moved through various musical genres since. Have had various basses over the years, but more recently a Stingray that I have just sold. My best mojo bass was a Vox Standard that I bought new in the early 80's from Len Stiles in Lewisham. Cheap but it was loud with great tone and somehow just loved it and practised night and day as a result. Was stolen in '85 Getting another on eBay I decided, as I have more time on my hands now and want to get that whole practice regime back. Had the Stingray for 7 years and hardly picked it up. Liked looking at it though! Love YouTube for learning. See how I progress this time. anyway - that's me. Ready to work my way through the Jon Liebman Funk Fusion Bass book! Cheers
