You are very welcome to borrow my #2, but I suspect a 5 string bass currently residing  in Birmingham with a partially jammed truss rod isn't going to be much good to you.

    PM me if it is.

I really appreciate the offer. But with my life at the moment, a jolly to Birmingham would probably be the last thing I should do! Trying to find permanentish accommodation at the moment! It has amazed me how quick the change has been from owning a home, happily married and financially secure, to homeless, divorced and financially precarious in under a year.

    Are you currently bassless?

Sadly that is correct. For about 8 months now, I am a picky bugger as well. I was offered a Short Scale bass for free a few months ago, but at 6ft 3,who likes to downtune, and a long journey to acquire it I couldn't quite muster up the funds to travel... and muster the effort at the time.

I used to have quite the collection say 10 years ago. But Relationships took over and basses had to go for funds and over the past year just to survive! I kept hold of my practice amp and cables at least.

  3. I was hoping to break my 2024 duck and get back to playing bass this year (Having been out of the game for quite some time and having my last bass stolen).

Sadly I lost my job, marriage and home after a nightmare 2023 so it looks like I will likely be able to be abstinent this year!

I do wish you all luck though!

Any pics? That thing was nuts (in a good way!)

Do you still have lizards btw?

    Just the one Gecko now.

I have been very detached from the music community for the past 5-6 years and only just happened to log in today as I had PM. I had some success with my last band, but we broke up 2 years ago and have only recently started to care enough to start trying again though on the skinny stringed thing for a change. Also trying to start a family soon so :)

I have stuck with the same bass for the past 5 years as well. Musicman Stingray, with a backup Jazz parts bass I have put together. Just havent been interested in buying and selling basses anymore. Lord knows I have had enough!

  6. Hello all.

We are seeking a guitarist to join in at the beginnings of a new Punk rock band. We have Bass/Vocals, Guitar/Vocals and Drums/Vocals. Just looking for the last piece of the puzzle!

Looking to start in earnest in January. We will re-purposing an old bands demos whilst creating new original material. As well as a couple of covers along the way.

Not looking for world domination, just for a fun time gigging around.

Backing vocal ability would be nice but we would like someone who can help join in and write decent songs.

We are looking for someone who specifically writes, lives and breathes 90s and 00's Punk rock, NOFX, Lagwagon, Pennywise, Millencolin etc. If you can pull off solos along with our current guitarist that would be great.

Age is not a factor, for reference we are in our mid 20's to mid 30's.

    Hit us up ASAP!

@Shockwave did you ever hear back from Ibanez? Might be worth linking them this thread :)

Nope, not a peep out of them!

Its a shame they didn't even offer an apology for it being faulty. A little courtesy goes a long way and would have shown they were a genuine customer focused shop.

Have to say i had good dealings with them where they went out of their way to help someone that wasn't even a customer or even buying for that matter.

At least its resolved in a god way for you and that's what counts.

So what ye buying now then xD

No idea what I am to replace with at the moment :)

Maybe some folk sell stuff on eBay that they'd rather not put on the sales floor?

With both neck and body faulty, I'm wondering if this situation could come about by building a composite bass of parts from multiple faulty basses? Put on eBay to get their stock cleaned up.

Not that a good reputable company like this supplier would EVER dream of doing this, naturally.

I think that's probably not the case. Especially with the matching headstock. But who knows! I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one!

  9. Cheers mate.

Really they should give the benefit of the doubt. Put things into my perspective, I purchased a guitar, took the neck off to adjust the angle of the neck in a setup only to find a fault in the neck. I couldn't have known about the fault unless I took the neck off. Therefore I was sold a broken guitar but now I cannot get a refund because why?...

I should also mention I bought this through ebay. Pretty sure I may have some extra protections as the buyer because of this.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Merchant City.

I would be inclined to telephone them and discuss this making sure you're at least speaking to one of the managers.

It's utterly ridiculous to suggest taking the neck off would damage the warranty and a manager would know that.

The person who emailed me is the purchases and accounts manager.

  11. Just received this email. How do I respond to this?

I wouldnt have been able to see a fault if I didn't take the neck off. Does it really invalidate the warranty?

    "
You have put us in a very difficult position here. By taking off the neck you have effectively invalidated the warranty. You should not need to remove the neck to adjust the setup and by removing the neck you may well have caused some of this damage.

The fit and finish of Ibanez guitars at this price point and even higher is never perfect. They have crammed a lot of features in to the guitar for the price.

In order for us to authorise a full refund we need to receive the guitar back in the exact same condition as we sent it. We'll be in touch as soon as it gets back to us."
