Isn't somebody looking for one of these?

I checked the Wanted section - could be any one of the many "sorted" ads.

    GLWTS

    Hopefully, they'll find this 🙂

  2. 41 year old Ibanez RB924 CS (Cherry Sunburst)
From my favourite era of Ibanez shapes, this has tow passive pickups, master volume, pan, passive tone and three way switch which I seem to recall does parallel / series and some other option. It makes a difference !!
Pickups look like soap bars, but are double J and P when you look at the pole pieces. The sound confirms this.
Super skinny neck which is very easy to play.

Condition is very decent for the age, it's not pristine, but marks are confined to the rear.

For sale as something else has drawn my eye.

Will ship anywhere in the UK and happy to work out your choice of shipping service.

More photos to follow shortly as soon as my drive behaves.

    I had the 4 string.

As most know it's practically a fully fledged Ray.

    Made on the same line.

    Same pick up and electrics.

The bridge is actually the same but not stamped.

    Different tuners but still quality.

    Poplar wood body. No contour.

The maple they used for the necks was of lower quality, but only from a cosmetic view. If you see these striped.

And of course the famous, super durable, easy spray on, no finishing required finish.

And stamped scratch plate being a USA sub only part.

I believe they actually lost money on everyone they sold, hence then going to the far East made line.

Pretty interesting mm history and there is lots of info about these.

The only thing I wasn't keen on was the slab body. And I like a jazz neck.

On a side note I stripped mine and had it refinished. It changed the tone, and I personally thought it sounded better with the original finish on.

These will become more collectable so maybe worth keeping original???

I'll definitely be keeping these two original.
I'd want them to be as they left the factory, including the ugly logo.

I know they’re good basses but it gets my vote for the ugliest headstock logo, surely they could have come up with something a little more tasteful.

    I don't disagree, but I won't be changing it.
It is what it is and I'll keep it pretty much original.

Do you mean that the laminate stripes are painted and the headstock front had a real veneer applied later?

    Yep,
The headstock upgrade was done exactly as they do all such instruments having left the factory painted black.
Toby applied stain for the laminate effet.

I'd be gobsmacked if that sees the hour out...

That's my old bass, I got Toby to do the refinish and the veneer headstock finish.
    That and the purpleburst finish.

Between original purchase price and refinish it owed my £1k and I sold it for £1,400.

I fancy you are setting a dangerous precedent for this forum.

    I admire your style sir.

Each of them for a price somewhere a Squier and a Mex. Not a difficult one to get past the steering committee.

Look great, and noticeable how much more compact the SUB is. I’ve found that the shape of Stingrays suits me far better as a player, however the sound I want is that of Fenders.

The funny thing is, this Jazz is no shrinking violet. It wants to be heard and has quite an in your face voice. Quite unlike other Jazz basses I've had.
The neck is easier than the SUB, which has a slightly chunkier neck, but also has a 'listen to me' voice too.

Both great in their own way.

  9. I really must stay off Basschat...

Shouldn't complain though, I very recently managed to snag two basses that have been on my list for a long time.
Namely, a Highway One Fender Jazz and a Musicman SUB.

Both USA built, both the bottom of their domestically built range.

Their modest new price tags were reflected in their used values and I couldn't be more pleased.

I'll put my 6 string basses to the side for a bit and enjoy a simpler life.

Upon reflection I get that a bit, but all the basses I've bought from new were pristine in the beginning. To commission such a beautiful bass, wait 2 years for it, then realise you can't play it even at home is such a pity. In this instance I'd keep it and cherish it; just like the twenty plus other beautiful basses in my collection.

My bass was an '86 which I bought in poor cosmetic condition. The bass in the pics is that same bass after Toby Diggins worked his magic back at the factory. All up, between purchase and refurb, it owed me a grand. I got £1,450 out of it. New Roadie IIA is  £1,500 and Supernatural Series III is £1.900. Once it was finished, mine was neither of those, so I did ok.

Wow! What a beautiful bass. I hope mine is as good as that. There's absolutely no way I could part with such an amazing example.

That's why I moved it on. I didn't want to risk compromising it, which is no way to be with a bass.

That's a stunning bass, just out of interest, how much did you sell it for?

A few short hundred less than a brand new Supernatural Series III.
The Jaydee group on FB was a bit besides themselves at the selling price (too low appreantly) and there's every chance it's made its way to a reseller already. If they think they can sell a used one for more than new, then I know nothing about the world.
