Just wondered what peoples opinions are on cabs that have some form of insulation on the inside , either foam or the stuff that looks like what you put in your loft ! whats the theory behind it? does it work ? ive got two cabs, the oldest has nothing in it, the newest has, for what its worth i prefer the sound of the older cab.

My first bass was a 1979 natural Musicman stingray, bought in 1982 for £250 or £200, cant remember, still got it, still gig it, brilliant bass. . .

BigRedX is spot on with regards your amp and speakers, l use an old valve amp, don't normally need to 'mic up' when l do it'll be some local 'fest' or decent function, l've got a Shure PG52 XLR, it does the the job really well & they're not overly priced . . . . . its great to walk out front during SC & hear 'your sound' opposed the 'techs' sound, but you've got to argue the toss with first . .

'Flying saucer attack' by the the Rezilos, you can argue whether its the best but its pretty decent, l used to do it in a covers band (drummers idea) once you'd started it there was no hiding place.

Beatles win for me, they did all the harmonies themselves right from the early days, & could do it live, i think the 'Ivy League' were used on the Who's early stuff for B.V.'s , but to be fair tho the vocals on the Who's tracks did improve album by album.

Interesting post, nice to see this song get a mention, albeit brief, 'Everlasting love' is a great bit of 60's 'pop', fantastic bassline too, l think you're probably right about the bassline over the chorus, unique at the time, puts a great slant on a simple chord progression, what also helped IMO was that classic 60's plectrum style that Russ had (l'm a big fan of that) Loads of energy from the rhythm section, Clem Cattini on drums ! ? Good point you make about Peter Hook, and fair too, tho l would suspect that Lemmy may have done a bit of 'drone' stuff before Hook ? but he's earned his stripes, been there done it etc, played some catchy lines in an original style. BTW 'DunRockin' , l've been playing 'Everlasting love' for donkey's, and l've always played 3 note's to every chord on the chorus, and l've always thought it sounded OK, surprising how differerent players hear the same song ? irregardless of ability.

Good question, & probably a question that most of us have asked ourselves . . ' how good a bassist am i . . actually ' lve been gigging 34 years since i was 17, done a fair bit of dep work, my strong points are a decent ear, my experience & the ability to think on my feet. l would say im a 6 out of 10, taking 10 as being the world greatest player ! whoever that may be, l say this from being lucky enough to have played with a few pro's who had decent chart success. lts a good way gauge your ability if your ever lucky enough to find yourself in such company, but you have to be honest to yourself. Whilst on one a dep job l knew that the drummer (also a dep) probably found me a bit limited, body language etc, he was a very good session player & i felt he had to play to my limitations. Thats the only time i've felt like that, it was'nt very nice but l took it on the chin, don't get me wrong, he was friendly enough, we had good eye contact & it was a good gig, l kept it plain & simple all night, nothing off the cuff, would'nt want to play like that on a regular basis, all part ot the learnig curve i guess.

Although for different reasons I bought a Sure PG52 bass mic about 2 years ago , l think off the top of my head, about £120, not the best l know but it works fine, gets me the the sound out front that l like, opposed to what the soundman likes ! tho you'll find a lot of tech's dont like doing this, prefer the ease of the DI .
