  2. Are there any studios in Glasgow that I can use for an hour or so on my own to try out my new head and really give it the beans? It's too loud to really test it properly at home.

Lo-fi is probably the best shout as it's a few hundred yards from my work so I could maybe ask to use an empty room on my lunch one day for a nominal fee

@EMG456 I've used most of the studios around the city but the majority are 3 hour blocks. I'm looking for somewhere where I can use a room for 30-60 minutes to have a play around with my head at volume to see how it all works.

  5. Does anyone have a Peavey Mark IV head or similar who might be able to tell me how wide it is?

Thank you! I've got a Mark IV but it's elsewhere so I can't measure it myself!

Not the one but not far off. Doesn't help that Peavey reused the Mark IV name a few times..

  7. Why are so many bass cabs covered in that horrible felt material? Almost every cab for sale locally here is carpet-covered. You never see it on guitar cabs...

I do have a cat, which is why I don't want a carpet cab, plus he'd rip it to shreds

Offt, very nice, but a bit too far away for me!

  9. Does anyone have any experience receiving international bank transfers? A payment was sent to me from Portugal on Friday but hasn't landed in my account yet. Any idea how long it should take?

Good to know. I've worked for banks for 8 of the past 10 years, and when I left my last bank job about 2 years ago, I'm sure that the rules regarding overseas payments were changing to make them quicker, but I guess I must be wrong on that.

Thanks. It's actually a refund of a security deposit for an apartment I rented when I was in Lisbon last week, rather than from the sale of a bass, but I thought there may be people on here who had received international payments for basses etc.

  11. FAO: Fender flatwound users - does the 'fat' part of the E string still wrap around the tuner post? I had some on my P Bass before and remember that the taper started after the string had already met the tuner. Is this still an issue? I was thinking of buying some.

Yep, I thought yours may be strung through-body! Seems strange that Fender strings would be designed for through-body stringing when only a handful of models feature it compared to top-loading bridges. Again, it is only aesthetic, so not the end of the world!

I realise that it's only aesthetic, but it bugs me.

Any idea how old these are? On the ones I had previously, the taper started after the string had met the tuner post, but that was a while ago. Hopefully you can see from the attached picture. Nothing to do with how short the strings are cut, as the distance from the bridge to the post was shorter than the thick part of the string.

  14. Once fees come into play, would it be cheaper to buy a bridge at £80 in the UK, or buy the same thing for $40 + $10 shipping from the States?

Cheers chaps. My mate is going to Brooklyn for a month at the start of next year to visit his girlfriend, so I might see about getting it delivered to her, then he can bring it back in his case; seems the easiest option and I'm in no rush for it.
