I would tend to agree on this.
Though I do actually quite like my own bass tone as well.
Know what bass Joe played on the Repeater album?
I'd assume it's the red Stingray he had, but I don't actually know

@MichaelDean I think my top three post-rock picks would be
We Lost The Sea - Challenger
This Will Destroy You - A Three Legged Workhorse
Mono - Ashes In The Snow
- 2

Mathcore
The Dillinger Escape Plan - 43% Burnt
Botch - Transitions From Persona To Object
Converge - Concubine

Auditioning a guitarist for an original death metal band, guy turns up - seems friendly, have decent gear and plenty of confidence.
I realise we're about to waste the entire session when his opening gambit is "what tuning do you guys play in?" His face fell, but not as much as his strings, when I said "drop B" and he had to slacken them right off.
Not really knowing what to do as the guy had clearly not learned any of these fairly technical songs, we ran through a couple and said join in when you can, so he strummed along with his valve amp on standby........

EBS pre-amp/DI box for sale/trade, I bought it to have a go at IEM, but in-ears never really worked out for that band.
Get the EBS tone from your pedalboard - 2 channels, drive with valve sim, EBS EQ, FX loop and cab sim on the DI
Ideally I'd like to trade for a Sansamp V2, as I quite fancy giving one of those a try, but cash works too.
Price includes shipping in GB

Pretty much. A few dates I can’t do (like the one Matt forgot to tell me about tonight 🤣) but will be filling bass shoes for most of them. Shame you can’t commit at the mo; in my opinion if you ever want to come back it’s your gig first and foremost 😎
You're a scholar and a gent, hope you have a great time in the band. Hopefully I'll be able to pop along to the odd local show and say hi 😀

Fun gig in East Grinstead and a lovely outing for my glorious ACG Finn 5 which I keep mulling over selling then taking to a gig and going “fxxk me this is great”. Usual story with Matt starting off with good intentions following the set list only to get distracted and wander off playing songs either I or the guitarist didn’t know 😆 But we busked it and it seems no-one noticed or cared. Until the bar staff had to come and tell us to shut up at 11.30 because we should have stopped at 11…. Knackered 🤣
Glad you had a good show, are you taking over full time now?

I've left my band now, been thinking about it for the past year and decided to knock it on the head for now.
With three challenging, neurodiverse children, now is not the right time to be in a band and I'm less reliant on the money than I once was.
Got one more gig booked to end things properly - a private party at a big house we've played a few times - and then done.
Hopefully I'll look at getting back into it in 2026-ish, when the youngest will be 9, but for now it'll be home playing and maybe some composition.

All my cables are Cleartone, been using them for years so this is a shame, but glad the owner is able to retire on his own terms.

The thing about Metallica in the 21st century is that they keep releasing albums that should have been EPs
If the last four albums had been cut back to about 20 minutes, they'd have been fantastic. Well, so long as they didn't ruin them when mixing/mastering them

Jeff Caxide (ISIS)
Flea
Bernie Edwards
Caleb Scofield (Cave In/Old Man Gloom/Zozobra)
Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan/Azusa)
Mike Flores (Origin)
And these guys, not to knock their bass playing, because it's very good, but I like them more as song writers
Shane Embury (Napalm Death)
Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse)

Without seeing the map, I thought it's got to be Finland 😁
The only downside about Finland is that if you find a black metal band from there, it's best to assume they're Nazis first and then be pleasantly surprised, rather than hope for the best and then be inevitably disappointed later.

I may have previously mentioned my notional concept band, ABBAration, which would combine the genius of Sweden's two finest musical exports by performing ABBA songs in the style of Opeth, alternating with Opeth songs in the style of ABBA.
I would love to hear Opeth songs in the style of ABBA 😁

Their riffs are filthy.
Are sticks in Kent different to sticks from elsewhere?
Now that depends which side of the Medway you're from 😁
And bravo, I do love a dangling modifier joke

Allfather - more riffs than you can shake a stick at from Kent
Really good stuff, was number four of my albums of the year list

Next one I have booked is Botch in March, I'm hoping to see Greg Puciato a couple of weeks before too, just need to sort out if I'm going to the London or Brighton date

I was at Damnation Festival in Manchester this weekend, two days of music from various parts of the extreme metal end, so to answer the eternal question of "is this good for metal?" In a slightly tongue in cheek way, I thought I'd catalogue all the basses and amps I saw across the weekend.
I was working the festival and saw a couple of pedalboards, so mentioned pre-amps if I saw them; everyone used House Ampeg 8x10 classics except for Bossk and Electric Wizard augmented with a second bass amp
Friday
The Sun's Journey Through The Night (Black metal) - Fender P/J,(VVT), House SVT 3-Pro
Deadguy (hardcore) - Precision, House SVT II-Non Pro
Celestial Sanctuary (death metal) - Deluxe Jazz, SVT III-Pro, B7K Ultra, Sansamp
Viking Skull (Motorhead like heavy rock/punk)- Jazz, Marshall VBA400
Inhuman Nature (thrash) - Thunderbird, an old Peavey head I think
Ninkharsag (black metal)- Warwick Streamer Stage II, Peavey TNT head
Bossk (post-metal) - Fender Marcus Miller, Darkglass M900, unknown cab (8x10 with an omega badge)
Din Of Celestial Birds (post-rock) - Ibanez EHB1005, House SVT II, Origin Super Vintage, Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra
Heriot (industrial/hardcore/metal) - Jackson(?) RIc like bass, House SVT II
Katatonia (doom/prog metal) - Schecter, Kemper (I think)
Sat
Electric Wizard (doom) - Ric, SVT Classic + Orange head & cab
Anaal Nathrakh (black/death/grind) - Dingwall Combustion 3/4, SVT III (house)
Coffin Mulch (death metal) - jazz (Geddy Lee?), house SVT III
Crepitation (brutal/slam death metal) - Traben 5 string, Darkglass Alpha Omega head
Khemmis (doom) - Spector LX(?)4, House SVT Classic
High Command (thrash) - Ric, Orange AD200
Unearth (metalcore)- Stingray HH, house SVT Classic, Darkglass B7K
Julie Christmas - Precision, Orange OB1 (mic'd cab only, no DI)
Undeath (death metal) - Warwick Fortress, house SVT III, Sansamp
Rotten Sound (grind) - Jazz, house SVT IIIFor my money, Unearth, Bossk, Julie Christmas and Electric Wizard had the best bass tones and as is par for the course at metal gigs and in big arenas, the bass was often inaudible or at least inarticulate.
Also the bands with the best bass sound tended to be the ones where (no surprise) there was sonic room for the bass frequencies, the full on death metal bands were more likely to have rumble, bottom heavy tone

I generally use two, but I have Alex Webster's (Cannibal Corpse) book and I've been working on using three as well.
Takes a lot of practice to get it right, even and not mess my head up, but getting there

I'd fancied swapping from a fuzz to more of a distortion for a while and a Rat was quite high up my list of pedals to try.
So when I saw a Rat clone for £40 new it seemed to be worth a punt
I haven't got the real thing to compare it to, but I'm liking the results. Sadly not got any gigs until December though, so a while before I can try it out in anger.

I suspect some of the laid off employees may start their own version of Bandcamp in time.
We'll see whether it (if and when) or any of the existing alternatives (I don't know of any) provide an adequate new home to bandcamp.
I've been hearing about one in development called Ampwall, early days yet though

No, it's now a Smith & Western - an American Cowboy themed chain restaurant
The Blue Anchor was there for a long time though, but closed up maybe 20 years ago
