  1. There's nothing to "get" really. Artists are free to express themselves however they're feeling it. As listeners, some will float our boat, others will not. It's a great journey finding out which is which for ourselves. The bits we do like can then inform our own work. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.
  2. Maybe your action is high on the Höfner?
  3. Interesting! I hear the music, new and old, in my head. I've never thought about it in this way before though. As an add on, I don't have perfect pitch when I hear music being played, but I've noticed that I do have perfect recall pitch when I listen to a song in my head. For instance, I can tune my bass to concert pitch by listening to the intro of Around The World by the Chili Peppers in my head as I know that it starts with Flea hitting a big E, so I tune my open E to his by singing that note and holding it, then the rest of my strings off that once I'm in. Is this normal? Do you recall songs in your head in the keys they are really in?
  4. That's lovely. Nice weight too.
  5. Yes but then they wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand (I expect).
  6. Charles Mingus on Haitian Fight song. Upright and guts. Probably the best choice for living on a desert island too 😄
  7. Not sure if this qualifies as whacky but it makes me laugh 😄
  8. That is straight up amazing! Fair play to the chap. The stuff of dreams.
  9. You must have some real players in your band. That's very cool! It was Tom Fowler who broke his hand. He's the bass player on the live "Roxy..." album I posted above. Listen to it and imagine your mate depping with that band for a night 😂 He must be a great reader! Thanks, Si
  10. This whole album, but especially "Echidna's Arf (Of You)/Don't You Ever Wash That Thing", followed by "Cheepnis". There's also 120+ other albums by Frank that are full of whacky excellence 😁
  11. Best P bass neck profile (to me). B width at the nut, rest of it chunky as 👌. Great sound due to the heavy Ash body but too heavy for me to live with one unfortunately.
  12. Sire Marcus Miller. I bet he doesn't even know about half of them..
  13. Sentenced to Death - Colossal Trailer Music
  14. The Shoes of the Fisherman's Wife Are Some Jive Ass Slippers - Charles Mingus
  15. Jesse Wood's band once supported a band I used to be in. (Ronnie Wood's son, now in Reef I think).
  16. Just had a good laugh at myself and gained some perspective after reading this... If I was into cricket then I'd probably be sheepishly admitting that I don't even play for a club anymore, whilst staring at a wall full of bats that I keep hoovering up from the for sale section of BatChat.
  17. When I played in a regularly gigging band I had one Jazz bass and an upright. Now I'm not in a band I've got 6 bass guitars (plus the upright) and I hardly play any of them. I've definitely been compensating. Like a fool.
  18. Airwolf parked up just out of shot.
