First time on the site for yonks and I've just read through this thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the same guy who has a suspended sentence for fraud as reported in The Leicester Mercury dated 17 Jan 2020?

If it is the same guy or you have just the slightest suspicion that it is, why are you waffling on and not reporting him to the police and / or Trading Standards NOW to let them find the truth and sort things out?

One evening in 1968 our three piece played 45 minutes at The St. Moritz followed by 1 hour at The Staircase and finished off at The Flamingo for 45 minutes, all in Wardour Street and we went back to Bucks with £95, 20 No6 Tipped and 4 bottles of Courage Light Ale.

Now don't larf but I'm now playing bass again in a local blooze band.😀

I'm allowed to use my small lightweight rig and a Danelectro Long Horn or Fender Mustang so's my back and shoulders don't suffer.

Friday night, an acousticy set was proposed. Great says I until I tried playing my full size 34" scale acoustic bass, nearly killed me and I'm still suffering this morning.

Hoiked out my little ukulele bass which sounded good but looked daft.

So I'm now considering one of them Ibanez parlour acoustical jobbies as I play a parlour guitar and resonators daily with no problems.

Has anyone on here got one? Anyone have  experience with one? Any advice? Strings etc.?

My son is here at the moment, sans communication device.

He has asked me to post " After looking at a few offers Music Man was sold to Ernie Ball on March 7, 1984. Music Man's remaining physical assets were sold on June 1, 1984." Wiki.

As his bass is dated March 21 and April 5 1984 we guess it is a true pre EB parts jobbie in the first days post EBs takeover.

Yes, it is ridiculously heavy and coz I do not play in a heavy handed slap, RHCP way, the so called neck shift is not a problem when I play mine!

 

 

 

 

Mine and my sons Stingray basses for your delectation:

Mines the pre EB (1980) on the left - reputed to have belonged to Neil Corcoran of Mother Earth at one time.

My sons is the EB (1984) on the right, with added EMG active P pickup and D tuner - reputed to have belonged to Gavin Cooper of Paul D'Ianios Killers. It was Olympic White before my son stripped it.

Jack, I too have used a 5-string Warwick for blues gigs in the past, silly boy that I am.

PS - note the use of the politically correct "Ms." in the title just to keep everyone else happy, too.

What you've got to be aware of that this is the transition line up after Jeff Beck left The Yardbirds.

Jimmy Page, after playing with Beck in The Yardbirds and on Becks Bolero (on the JBG Truth album), blatantly ripped off what Beck was trying to do (and actually doing live) and formed the definitve Led Zep.

Plant and Bonham were needed as can be seen from that clip above.... (and the fact that Beck had Rod Stewart, in his prime, as a powerful vocalist in The Jeff Beck Group, showed him the way to go)

JPG formed early 1967, definitve LZ formed summer 1968.

......and LZ had Peter Grant as the manager, 'nuff said,

I had to learn this one using vinyl on a Dansette record player whilst my Dad was shouting "TURN IT DOWN!".

Blxxdy satisfying when we played it live though.

You're correct, young man, and I went and bought one.

It is tremendous fun and easily playable, doesn't hurt my shoulder but I still can't stand for too long which is the major part of the problem.

To quote the professionals "....your back is mashed and it is going to get worse. Do not try any exercise and relearn how to do things. Do not be proud to ask for help when you need it".
Sounds bl88dy awful but sympathy is not what is wanted or needed.
I've had a load of fun being an average gigging bass player of the old school and have some great memories.
I'm alive, mobile, self sufficient, and my hands and fingers are fully operational.
All is positive and good with me.
So it's onwards - playing good old fashioned, airse on the chair, up tempo country blues with a hint of The Big Easy for me now.
You never know, I might get a gig up t'pub with a bit more practice.
