  1. Hi all. I have been playing bass for 4 and a half years now. I have never really learned much about scales or keys, I know the note positioning. Now I have started taking my music seriously really for the first time I feel like I should make an effort to learn more on the theory.

I have always sort of fiddled around and through trial and error I have stumbled across what goes together. I want to have a greater understanding of how music is put together and to push my playing onto the next step.

I am only interested in learning the basics at the minute, the how and the why as I feel a basic knowledge will be beneficial to me but I do not know where to start so can some fellow bass players help a guy out :)

  2. I am thinking on starting a homebuild project, it would be the first one I have undertaken.

I think having the satisfaction of playing something that I've put together would top spending £300-£400 on a guitar.

The main purpose of this thread is for me to get some ideas on pickup choices, where to get necks etc.

So what I want achieve is a short scale but that has a vintage look to it but stands out from the crowd slightly. Does anyone know where I could try and source a decent short scale neck from at a reasonable price?

  3. I currently have a squier jag VM, im looking to replace the neck on it with a short scale neck either from a short scale jag or mustang. However if I can come across a good quality short scale neck that will fit I would take it.

I'm looking for places on where to find such a thing as a good short scale neck and where I can get it actually done round about the Glasgow, Ayrshire area.

  4. I've got a couple of queries regarding the zoom b3.

I'm mainly looking to add a delay and a chorus pedal to my line up. I already have a KORG floor tuner, boss odb-3 and big muff pi at my disposal.

The main reason for asking is would the ZOOM B3 make the pedals I already have redundant or could there still be a use for them. I do like the idea of having a wider range of effects at my disposal when playing live and the cost of buying 2 pedals would substantiate to around about the cost of the B3.

  5. Hi guys gonna post this just for people to give some views and criticisms on my bands very first song. It is only an instrumental and is in the process of being re recorded with lyrics added on to it.

  6. Also try looking for a Jim Deacon/SX bass as they are well made and are great value basses for the money. I'm swapping the stock pickups in mine for Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounders :)

As Tait previously mentioned the Squier Jags are good. Small neck and is ideal for me as I have small hands as well. I'm not sure what variant I'd go for the P/J setup or the Humbucker one, can anyone tell me if there is any differences in sound and tonal quality between the two?

  7. I am putting my Jim Deacon bass up for sale as I no longer need it. I've only had it 2 and a half months but I need to move it on to raise money for another Jim Deacon P/Bass I have coming in.

The sound is great, really nice bright tone. The head stock has a little chip out of it and there is some small buckle rash on the back. I will try and get my own pictures up here shortly, but apart from the small chip on the headstock and the buckle rash it is in the same condition as in these photographs.
