I am a Jazz man and these 2 at Bass Direct are driving me mad at the moment. I dare not visit because I know I ould come back with one. Any BCer's played them, or similar?

Fabulous man I have had the pleasure of supporting and having a beer with 3 times now. when he played the Robin the other week his Jazz sig bass gave up the ghost and he had to use the sound guys 70's P which luckily he had at the venue. I didn't think he carried a spare ... incredible.

My '97 US standard Jazz is worth its weight in gold. I've tried everything from Sadowsky to Smallpox and they are not fit to lace the boots of her.

I have had the pleasure of supporting The Blockheads 3 times and enjoying the company of and several beers with Norm at the end of the night.

One of the nicest blokes I have ever met. I have spent a good few hours in his company and never talked basses, other than to get the headstock of my fave jazz signed by him. He is far too interesting and amusing to talk about basses with.

I am fortunate enough to have 2 great Fender Jazz basses and a Ric, all of which are passive. I have dabbled with active basses, most notably a Marcus sig which I kept the neck and sold the active body on and sources a passive body.

I tried a few Sadowsky basses yesterday and was massively disappointed as the most expensive ones didn't match up the feel and playability of my bitsa Fender Jazzes with wizzard pups.

I get a great active tone by digging my fingers in a bit harder or occasionally a pic for a few punk covers.

All I want to do during gigs is perhaps roll a bit of tone off for certain songs or parts of songs. Anything else defeats to object of a simple instrument IMO.

We do sound and lights and unless its a few flights of stairs or half a mile trek to the stage we can do

Full 2K PA
1 bass and rig.
2 guitar and rigs.
3 keyboard.
4 vocal mikes.
1 electronic drum kit.
x2 powered monitors
lights.
selection of assorted plastic birds.
Full band soundcheck.

Usually about an hour. We all multi-task. My bass rig and sounsheck takes about 5 mins max.


Packing away is another story though ....

I was going to offer a kit-kat for trade and money your way.

The tension on my string through is far better than my top loaded Jazz. Same strings, gauge, set ups etc...
Infact my string through has a Badass III on and when first fitted I tried top loaded and it was a different bass in a bad way. So I went string through again after a few minutes and normal service was resumed.

I know there is no science to this, but I know how I like my bass to feel and I get that string through. Don't know if I would risk a future bass that wasn't string through.

Prob a Jazz, generally thiner necks and brighter tones, a nicely set up MIM should be in your budget. Resist a plectrum and get your fingers going.

Seriously though ... a fretted one of these with the slim 62 neck would be the ultimate bass for me.

The answer to this question is definately YES! They were indeed a magnificent pair of trousers. The inside leg measurement ia 18 inches I believe.
